Create a basic 8 Strand kumihimo braid. This tutorial will show you how to start and finish a kumihimo braid to make your own rainbow friendship bracelet.
A simple beginners kumihimo braid is a really quick and effective way of making your own friendship bracelets. In this kumihimo tutorial I will show you how to use 1.5mm rainbow cord to create a basic 8 strand kumihimo bracelet from start to finish. We will start with how to use a kumihimo disc, how to create an 8 strand braid and then finally how to add the end caps and clasp to the finished kumihimo bracelet.

This was a very clear tutorial, and not too much chatter at the beginning as some RU-vid videos do. I just bought a kumihimo kit at a consignment shop and am very excited to get started!

Nice tutorial. Just a suggestion though. Wrap some tape around the cord next to where you plan on cutting it. That will help keep everything in place just in case it starts to unravel on you and help keep it all tight. Alternatively you can also add a bit of glue to the side and let it dry before you cut. That way it stays tight and keeps its shape for when you glue it into the end caps.

I saw this and I just know it’s way out of my skill level, I’m never good with having to do put strand a over e & f, wrap strap b twice around j…. 😂 but, it looks lovely and I’m envious but I know my limits 😁 particularly when I need to teach it too. In this case I’m sending the bits needed to family in Ukraine so we can have an online ‘craft class’ get together with family and any of their friends or neighbours. I used to teach in a school and have helped friends out over covid when they couldn’t get enough staff to cover online lessons. I did post out a few craft kits to the children, think they liked getting the post to them, for art lessons. But teaching adults online is new. If I can’t master braided bracelets no problem, I’ll admit defeat and do something else 😂🌻🇺🇦🌻🇺🇦🌻

Tip If you have one or two strands that you can’t get through the charm bail, cut them with about an inch left of the thread/cord and then pull the bail through to the opposite end and it will go through and be released once the end is out of the bail. You can also burn the ends to additionally avoid fraying if you are safe to do so.

Hello, when you tie off the ends before adding the clasps you said cotton, is this just regular sewing cotton you use of something in particular? I've used a few methods before like sewing and even celetape but are quite difficult. Thanks

Would’ve added a whipping to the ends, It would’ve held better and you could’ve added the hardware at the end with no problem. Just my 2 cents. Great video!!

After whipping the ends, I'd add a few drops of CA glue as well. That would also make the whole bracelet much stronger at the clasp ends.

What size are the ends that the string sits in?

I think if you would’ve added a whipping at the end so that you can fit the hardware on.

Hi Michael, thank you so much for your feedback, I really appreciate it. I have been using this technique for the ends so that they all fit snug into the end caps but after you mentioned whipping I've looked into it and think this would be a great option too. Thanks for the tip :)

Hi Amber. Hope you found the video useful. If you wanted to take a look at the kit you can find it on my Etsy shop www.beadstarsstudio.Etsy.com If you have a Kumihimo board though you can braid with pretty much any thread - it’s fun to try different cords and threads to get different effects

Yeah but if you keep braiding till you run out of cord, it will be a necklace, or an ankle bracelet, and not a bracelet.
@beadstars5595
@beadstars5595 3 года назад
Yes there’s so many possibilities. I find that on average threads each measuring 50cm will give you a bracelet length but if you go longer say 1m plus you can make necklaces. If you do go for a longer length you may find using thread bobbins will help keep the longer threads in check and stop them tangling up as you braid.
