Welcome to the community! Thanks for the sub! One thing you can try is to set your keyframes in an adjustment clip. Then you can save the adjustment clip to a power bin so you can access it in any project. Once created, all you have to do is drop the adjustment clip in a track above the photo and the photo will have the animation. Hope this helps!

Good tutorial. Great explanation. Thanks! Quick question. If you set up Optical Flow and other parameters in the Project settings, will it only impact the render times of clips that are either slowed down, or do not match the timeline, or will all the processing speed of all clip rendering be impacted. For example, if I have a 30 fps clip on a 30 fps timeline, will that clip render as quickly as it would without optical flow set in project preferences?
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski Год назад
Thanks! I haven’t tested it out to see whether takes longer to render when it’s applied to all clips. I usually just leave the settings at the defaults and only change the optical flow for clips that need it. For most of it I do there are not a ton of clips where I need The optical flow setting.

Jason, at 3:00 ± when you say Optical Flow will slow down your computer you mean only during the initial creation/edit, correct? Because Resolve saves the result in the clip and then it no longer matters, right? So, thereafter, while still in the Edit page, each time you move the play head through the clip, Resolve doesn't have to repeat going through the Optical Flow processing? So the overhead processing is just a one-time burden? Like making proxies is just a one-time event? Yes, this question indicates I have little editing experience in Resolve yet. Your help is appreciated, thanks for your videos.
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski Год назад
Yes, you are correct, it just takes time for it to process once. Unless you make any changes to the clip. It will also slow down rendering a little, but not a big difference from what I've seen on my M1 Mac Mini.

If you have the studio version it’ll utilize the GPU, if you have the free version it does not utilize the GPU, that’s a limitation of the free version. First thanks for all your videos, love your channel! Next I have a question. I got a new Insta360 x3 camera and want to get some slomo shots that I can reframe and get 1080 or better quality from. Shooting modes I have available are 5.7k@30fps, 4k@60fps, or 3k@100fps My question is will I be better off using super scale to upscale lower resolution footage, or these tools to smooth out my slomo?
@craigrobert7721
@craigrobert7721 Год назад
My understanding is that 5.7k 360 video will reframe down to 1080 flat video, but it also seems confusing in some articles I have read. Not sure what 4K and 3k will reframe to, articles didn’t directly address those and didn’t seem to have a simple formula.
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski Год назад
Hey Craig - Thanks for checking out my videos! So if you want to do slowmo, I'd use either the 4K @ 60 fps or 3K @ 100 fps, this way when you slow it down, it will look great. You can alway adjust the settings I show in this video, just to make sure it's extra awesome. 😜 I would edit in a 1080 timeline and then just export the video in 4K so resolve upscale everything and it should look great. You can scale the higher res footage to anysize you want by zooming in w/ the inspector. With 4K, I think you can enlarge it by 200% with no quality loss and 3K by 150% or so. I'd play around with it, do some tests/sampels and see how it looks and comes out.

Thanks! The M1 mini is pretty good. I’ve got the 16 gig version. I only bought it because my 2015 MacBook Pro died right before the release of the new 16 inch MacBook Pro last fall. I intended On waiting to get a more powerful Mac after the M1 trip but I decided to go with the mini because I thought it would hold me over for a year or two before I need to upgrade again and it was cost-effective. I have some questions so I hope that you will have patience for someone who is not very technically inclined. I am assuming that "interpolation" is something that is used with interlaced video and "Optical flow" or something similar is used with progressive video. I have some film footage that was shot at 16 fps and want to transfer it digitally and upload it to the internet. The impression that I get is that in modern times a progressive scan is the way to go as it is more campatable with modern viewing devices. I know that interpolation can smooth out film shot at 16 fps so that it does not look so choppy. I have seen examples of this online. For progressive, does optical flow do the same thing while maintaining the same playback speed?
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski 7 месяцев назад
Hi! If I'm being honest, I don't know anything about interlaced video vs progressive video. But what I can tell you is that if set up your video in a 24 fps timeline, there will be the least amount of frames to make up. Dropping in your 16 fps footage, you can use the retime controls (on a project level or on a clip level) to make it all smoother. I'd use optical flow for the retime process and I'd use speed warp or enhanced better for motion estimation. Just a warning, speed warp is very intense on your machine, I'd only turn it on right before I'm going to render. Hope this helps a bit!

Sir Is it possible to change the frame rate of a video without changing the speed or without getting the audio unsynced in DaVinci resolve in itself? When my footages are from different sources it may possible that they are of different frame rates. Footages from our phones are captured with variable frame rates. Until now I was using Handbrake Video Transcoder to change the frame rate of the videos to a common frame rate and to change the frame rate from variable to constant. Is it possible to perform these processes in DaVinci resolve itself?

What I would like is the correct recipe for shooting and editing clean smooth slow-mo….camera settings and DaVinci settings.
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski 2 месяца назад
On your camera, use a high frame rate, something like 60 frames per second or 120 frames per second. In DaVinci Resolve, set your project settings and timeline frame rate to be something like 30 frames per second, so it is a number divisible by your high frames per second, that will give you smooth slow Mo. when you slow down your high frame per second clips. Does that help?
@dougfraser3295
@dougfraser3295 2 месяца назад
@@JasonYadlovski YES!!!!! that doth help! But the shutter speed on the camcorder…..in conjunction…how does that need to be set for slo-mo….or is it not an issue?
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski 2 месяца назад
So your shutter speed should always be double the frame rate. So if you’re filming in 60 frames per second, the shutter speed should be 120. If you’re filming at 120 frames per second, your shutter speech should be 240. The same as true if you’re filming at a lower frame rate, for example, if you’re filming at 30 frames per second, your shutter speech should be 60. Does that help?

Love the quality of the Resolve processing- here is the 'reverse' question - let's say you filmed in 60FPS for slow-motion in post- but you decide to use the footage at 24FPS at full speed- can Resolve add in the motion blur back to the frames to make the 24FPS look less 'staccato/judery' in spite of a faster shutter speed?? (This would also be awesome to allow for filming at a higher shutter speed outdoors without an ND filter- adding the motion blur bak in during post)....

The free version will probably not run it as well as the studio version, I thought it’s included in the free version as well so that it would not have a watermark but I could be wrong. I’ll have to double check it. On my fully loaded 2015 MacBook Pro, I would only turn this on when I was ready to render because it would block down too much as well. On my M1 Mac, I can turn it on and there’s no issues.

@@JasonYadlovski I didn't expect any watermarks for an option available to use in the free version but it turns out speed warp creates watermarks afterall. But what is worse, I had a 5 second clip rendering with speed warp and it was taking forever, it looked like multiple hours would be required and basically locked my laptop while processing. I was suprised force shutting off my computer didn't undo the render, I found out while waiting there wouldn't be any point to wait for the render because it would have a watermark. My laptop got really hot and I wasn't sure I would be able to access my saved project without crashing my computer but it seems after it freezes your computer for a few minutes, you get a small window of time to actually click on things and I was able to remove speed warp from the clip and my saved project is good now. A good reminder to have the most recent backup saved version of your project in case you run into something completely weird that won't let you use your saved project file.

I have a little problem my Canon filming in 20fps which reneder option is the best?
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski Год назад
Since you can’t actually render a 20 frame per second file, you might wanna go with something like 23.976 frames per second. Once you’ve got your footage in the timeline, I would go into your project settings and change the re-time controls for the entire project to be Motion estimation and speed warp if your computer can handle it. If speed warp bogs down your computer too much, then just go down the list from best to worst and see which one will work.

@@JasonYadlovski thanks for your reply. i figured out optical flow wasnt working on the fusion clip. so i exported the fusion clip at 100% (default) speed. then re imported it, THEN did my speed ramps, and enabled optical flow + enhanced better. then optical flow worked and was buttery smooth. So it worked when it was directly on the imported video file

Hi, when I reduce my 4k videos with SpeedWarp to approx. 25% slowmo, the rendering time increases from approx. 20s (opticalflow only) to over 5 min. Unfortunately I have not found a single test that compares the GPU's with each other in relation to SpeedWarp and gives real output times. Does anyone know of a current test?

I have some Apex Legends gaming clips at 60 fps, any method I use to make a slow motion produces an image distortion that wasn't there before at normal speed and I can't resolve it in any way... can anyone help me?
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski 9 месяцев назад
Make sure you have a timeline frame rate of 30 fps, so you can slow down the 60 fps clip to 30 fps and it should work ok. Also try adjusting the retime controls for optical flow and for enhanced motion estimation. Those settings should help too.

@@JasonYadlovski thanks for the reply, the result is already a little better, but I don't understand why the image doubles during slowmotion which doesn't have this effect on Adobe Premiere Pro

So glad I found your channel🫶 I'm a total noob in DR and been recording some flying clips in a flight sim in VR and sometimes the image can stutter a little in places and was wondering if this would be a good way of reducing them or if there's a better way to smooth out the scene containing the in flight stutters

Hey Jason, great video as always. Where DVR won’t get the results needed, there is another software called Topaz Video Enhance AI. Topaz is well known in the photography world, which led me to buying it. In addition to doing buttery smooth slow motion, it does upscaling, de-noise and de-interlacing. Here is a video I did testing it out. Andrew ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ghpUM4aae9k.html
