The displacement settings implementation inside the VRayMtl would be a godsend. I'm, stuck to Corona just for this feature alone...So sad you have to mess around with many DispModifiers and vertex masks to achieve multiple displacements onto a single object.

Cool, more of those a bit more advanced tutorials pls. Normally Chaos tutorials are always super basic 🙂 Question: TexMin and Max is between -5 and 5. But your are using only simple jpgs. Any benefits for extending the range above 0 and 1 in that case?

There is no benefit of having range set above and below 0 to 1 in the case of using jpgs. It would only be beneficial if we use textures with values below 0 or above 1.

@@vmihaylov1986 Yeah, ok thx for confirmation. Does it have any downsides to extend the range? Why not for example by default use -100 to 100 in order to cover any cases?

@vmihaylov1986 it actually has, if you add 2 bitmaps on top of each other, you might push your value above 1 and get a flat top effect (like if the surface was sanded) Using overlay keeps your values in check but with less dynamic

You can easily follow this tutorial and apply the exact same principles in V-Ray for Maya. The V-Ray nodes are pretty much the same, and you will get the same result.

Maya and max aren't too different, I used to use maya, it's only the layout that's really different, all the types of files for material editing and especially vray are the same
