You are literally the best teacher i've ever taken lessons from, i mean yea i want to learn japanese and i came here for that so i should be happy i am learning, but it's not only about learning, you make it look very easy and you have structured your lessons very well, but you also joke a few times and say things off script to make us feel like we are learning from a human and not a robot that only reads scripts and shows stuff on screen, you have a type of charisma to you that just makes almost anybody feel comfortable when taking these lessons compared to school where as most teachers just don't really care and want to get the lesson over with and i mean why are you there if you don't want to teach people stuff, teachers in schools are mostly un-charismatic or robot-like and it makes you feel like you are in a medication of some sort, just taking your dose and ending it there with nothing more to it, it's so weird that i feel better learning with some dude i found online than my supposed "teachers" in school.

I think I've found a useful instance where "Tanaka-san desu ka" would mean "Am I Tanaka?", that i think most people could relate to. OK, so you've just woken up in the middle of the night and decide to head downstairs to get something to drink, but sleepy as you are you get lost along the way and end up in an alternate dimension. You're standing in front of a giant obelisk. You lean forward looking at your reflection, but you don't see yourself, you see Mr. Tanaka... "Tanaka-san desu ka".

A great tip for when to use of 何 nani or nan is when the word following it starts with the letters t,n,or d you will always use nan. Any others you use nani.

Thoughts while watching this video: たなかさんですか？私はだれですか？私のなまえはなんですか？ These are pretty informative videos. I've studied Japanese at college but I've lost a lot. These are nice refreshers for me.

I've been trying all kinds of learning materials and bouncing all over the place for about 12 months. These videos are absolutely brilliant, at least for my preferred way of learning. I'm moving to Japan in a week, and I am going to sit here and watch as many of your videos as is physically possible until I leave - and then watch the rest when I arrive. Thank you, thank you, thank you. They're rehashing things I've already learnt since I have been at it for 12 months, but it's consolidating the information into a much stronger base for going into more advanced study - but still total amaze-balls. Now I can not sound like an idiot talking to Japanese friends on line. I will buy your books when I get to Japan and sign up to your Patreon, that still doesn't feel like thank you enough!!

I like thinking of "desu/desuka" as "identity/identify?". It helps me understand the difference between "desu" and "imasu/arimasu".

George, I have gone through the pre-lessons on line and just ordered the first book. I'm really enjoying the approach you take. You present Japanese in a very practical way. I'm loving it. Unfortunately my brain takes forever to absorb things like this but I intend to be persistent. My wife and were recently in Japan for the first time and intend to go back in two years (my wife is half Japanese and this is her first visit) . I have challenged myself to learn as much as I can before going back. Your teaching style motivates me and I know I won't give up. Dan

I like to review for atkeast 3 days, revisiting lessons and making a notebook while also using the books to review and watch the videos. It is alot of repeat, but it helps to make it easier to understand everytime

Thanks for doing these videos which coincide with the book. I just recently bought the eBook (sadly the print version is crazy expensive in Thailand as it's an imported book...but I converted the Amazon format to PDF and printed it out) it's really useful to be able to have a video tutorial to accompany the book.

english is my second language, and i'm kinda happy that plural, pronouns is not a problem in japanese just like my first language, it leaves a space in my brain to learn another monster in learning nihonggo, the kanji. And japanese is also 99% of the time phonetical, spelling and pronounciation is also not a problem, but then there is the pitch accent to think about.
