RU-vidでは、ジョージさん含め、細かい文法や日本語のニュアンスを教えてくれる先生ってかなり稀ですもんねぇ。ひょっとしたら、唯一かもしれませんね。 Including George-san, there is so rare teacher who teaches grammatical details , besides Japanese nuance on RU-vid. Maybe he is the only teacher,I suppose.

George, i go to university in Japan and I'm taking the most basic Japanese class and tbh the teachers for the basic class are not much help. When i learn from you everything clicks so well because you emphasize the importance of learning grammar rather than memorizing phrases. You also teach in a very fun way, throwing in a few anecdotes here and there, it just makes me feel more connected to the lesson. I am sure you get this all the time but George, you are an amazing teacher.

3:25 When he said "Doko ni iki masuka", I paused the video, broke-down the words, and GOT IT CORRCT!!! ON MY FIST TRY!! I said "Where are you going to?"?? Which, isn't the exact thing he said, but it means the same thing. I'm so happy right now! I've worked really hard just to start learning Japanese, and now I'm working hard to learn it!

5:40 he was right. When I got to lesson 12 I was pretty pumped not because of what the lesson was but because I tried learning Spanish before and conjugating is not as simple in Spanish as it is here where you just add an ending. This is on if those things where English and Japanese are like opposite languages but I love when they have something in common like go to going and いくto いきます. PS when I say it to my phone is types 行く instead of いく. It’s because the Kanji that replaced い means going/ journey/ to carry out and the word is literally to go so don’t get frustrated if you’re experiencing the same thing. It’s not hearing you wrong. It’s just another way to write it.

Thank you ジョジ先生 . i Will be applying for a scholarship in Japan in 2022 and i basically have two years to learn Japanese. My parents are stiill saving up money for enrolling me in a japanese course to learn nihonggo so in the meantime i thought i could study by myself. I have found alot of videos that are so confusing and i even came to the point thinking that maybe i just cant really learn this language. but when i stumbled upon your series, everything was just very clear. the things you teach in 5 videos other people try to fit in one 10 minute video. and so i was surprised i could actually pick up the language much more easy. You are the best teacher i have encountered so far. i think i might not need to enroll in any courses and id just buy your books. im very thankful to have found this series

Hi George - Thank you so much for these videos. I'm almost finished book 1 and I can't wait for book 2. I'm a stay at home mom with a two year old and it's been my goal to learn Japanese for years, ever since I took Music of the Worlds People for a humanities credit in university. It was the shakuhachi, shamisen and koto that introduced me to Japanese culture and I've admired it ever since. So here I am, finally learning Japanese, and I love your teaching style and the way you've put your lessons together. It's not my first foreign language, but it's been by far the most enjoyable to learn. Thank you again. Also looking forward to Mandarin From Zero... no rush, eh! ;)

I studied Japanese in college (I'm trying to brush up here) and my Japanese college professor (Japan native graduated from Tokyo University) taught that that the most correct form is "Location" è ikimasu... Tokyo e ikimasu, as the particle "e" indicates direction/movement toward a location. Maybe for Gakko "ni" is preferred because you're going "inside" the school. My 2 cents.

I've only been teaching myself Japanese for about two weeks now. I'd like to say that I'd made some good progress (mostly because I had learned some words and expressions via osmosis from Anime and other media), but this and the previous video really brough a lot of it together. I clearlly still have a long way to go (I mean even if I've done a lot, it's only been two weeks), but this really helpped me break down sentences and understand so much more of what I was reading.

e & ni being somewhat interchangable reminds me of learning programming in c++ many years ago. We were told that endl; & /n were in most respects the same (starting a new line in the console window), yet the slight difference between them made one of my programs act in strange unintended ways. (Also I will note that I had to use romaji here because Android's JP keyboard settings suck. It is one of the few things I miss about my iphone days.)

Just a thing maybe you may want to know about non english speakers public. I'm brazilian and I'm studying japanese by your books and Genki. I think you are, really, the BEST teacher! Of course it's personal and maybe some people may not think the same. But to me the way you explain things on your books and videos, the progressive system you'v createde, make easier to learn than any other books, methods, sites or even a japanese teacher I've found in I talk. Really man, you know how to teach things, you "born to be a teacher". Besides, you're so funny and cool. So, I told about your work to my friends that, inpired by may posts about learning japanese on facebook, asked me the best way to learn. Of course I told what I just said: "Learn Japanese form Zero is to me the best tool you may find. Unfortunately they don't understand english and they told me there's no portuguese version of your books (I didn't know it cause I intentionaly tried to find english sources to learn, beacause, beyond there are much more materials available it will help me to improve my poor english while I'm learning a third idiom- I'm also learning italian, so a the 3'd or 4'd idiom haha). So, I think you maybe should think of the possibility to translate your work into another languages. Of course portuguese may not sound to you a great deal. We are a millions of portuguese speakers in the world, most due to my giant country but very few countries. BUT maybe would be interesting to you to make in spanish, the second language in the world and very similar to portuguese in many ways. Most of my friends could understand the books if there was a spanish version of the text. Maybe you will find this idea interesting. I don't know. Anyaway, keep this great job!

Goerge - don't get this the wrong way, please but: I love you! And I am a dude. With all the other books and material so far I've never made that much progress and at least for the moment this. feels. awesome. Oh and just so you know - I left Genki I a 3 Star Rating and your Book a 5 Star Rating on Amazon because I love not only how much better your material is suited for self-learners. It's also how fair you treat your students. There's no paywall and subscribe-this or register-that nonsense. Your videos have a low entry barrier so that people know what they get. It's how I found you after pretty much blindly buying the Kanji book first (don't ask why). Watching the videos reinforces buying the books as well. In conjunction it seriously feels like being back in school a little (I'm 36, now. Just now it also feels I can appreciate it much more than when I was younger. I will recommend you to anyone who wants to learn japanes as well. You Rock!!
