This is fantastic. Not just a banger track, ITS ALSO a banger video, AND ALSO an exciting collaboration. So glad this exists, this is exactly what I want to consume
The interstitial bits of different band members just playing something wild or fun against a saturate color background really, really brings the flow of this show together imo. Season 2 is shaping up to be legit!!
i initially baulked at the full length of the interview segment just by looking at the time stamps but it was just so much fun listening to the full discussion, i barely realized the video had come to an end. this is a great episode, and cory does such a great job as an interviewer, as are chromeo as interviewees!
That was AWESOME... The conversation with Chromeo in the second half was a treat. Thank you so much Cory for putting the time and energy doing this. Oh, the song is SLAMIN!
My hat is on the floor and full of cash. I can't tip it any harder. Cory you're fluffin insane! A monster, an unstoppable force, a saint, an inspiration! I once followed you around for 3 nights in a row of shows. Every night was different! Different songs, different members, different stage gags. Everytime I take a lookaway you have a new album. You're working with everyone and showing us the whole journey! This is peak performance ladies and gentlemen.
I have seen Chromeo live 4 times, I love them, for both you (Cory) one of my guitar heroes, and them to work together is just magic. thanks for the content. Amazing as always.
OLD GUY POST: Man, i would have killed for this sort of info when I was just starting out. So many gems of good advice on workflow in here it's insane.
I love this interview, it resonates with so many of my internal freqs. Really, this level of modesty, it humbles to see how cool these guys are, thanks for making this interview along with the song (which kills, BTW). High praise for the 3 of you, and chromeo I'm forever encandilado by them
I loved hearing Chromeo talk about how they started leaving more slop in their recent recordings- I picked up on that but wasn't sure if it was intentional, it makes it sound more alive, and I think it's a big part of why Head Over Heels is my favorite album. Quarantine Casanova has that same raw feel, too.
Fantastic interview with Chromeo - lots of mutual respect going down. I wanted more of you discussing learning all of Earth Wind and Fire’s tunes - Cory. You really are turning into the music industry’s hardest working artist. 153k of us love what you do.
Man, Cory, you're just consistently one step ahead of my constant need for new music from you. The collaborations, the groove, the comedy... It's all there man. I have no idea how making all this incredible art is even financially feasible, but damn it, I hope you're doing this for years. On top of that, your live shows have been some of the best I've seen in recent memory. This truly is the golden age of Wong.
This is premuim content that People should be paying for, but somewhere in Cory's egg head and normal shaped heart, he's deemed music TOO righteous to be tagged with a price...or so thats my wishful thinking.
something really tickles me about avalon penrose (aka meg from HADES) playing a funky dorito. that's one deep-cut crossover i wasn't expecting today, but a welcome one! what a freakin' fun episode to wake up to (this also means cory's just one degree of separation away from supergiant games - maybe that dream of doing video game music isn't far off after all)
This should be mandatory watching for all of these "copyright" cases going round... Also just like everyone else I have to say this is solid, impressively multi-faceted, extremely well produced content - loving it!! 🔥👏
Awww MAN!! The funk was tight!! Horn section was on the Tower of Power level. The only con I had was with the singer. He sounded BLAND. Good singer, but this song needed someone with soul in their voice. This guy...eh...no. He wasn't the right singer for this.
16:38 what is David "Dave 1" Macklovitch saying? Is he speaking French? Canadian group, so...? The Wongnotes / Hornheads just live and sleep on the film set somewhere in upstate New York, on constant alert for when Cory flies in and demands killer horn parts. 31:22 "make it more Stevie circa 1972". OK, but how did Stevie Wonder come up with Music of My Mind? Nothing in music is completely de novo, but some musicians really expanded what's possible.
Hold on! The Who, Joe Walsh and of course Peter Frampton were using the Talk Box before Troutman! Amazing interview though!! Chromeo is one of my favorites, and I've always loved that they shout out Minneapolis!
A Christian, a Jew, and an Arab walk into a bar...;) On all seriousness, great interview Cory - glad to see you stand firm in your faith and keep up these interviews and funk!
So sick to watch the sausage be made. I wish all Cory's collabos were documented fly-on-the-wall like this. Also, why does it seem like PetarJanic and Dave from Chromeo have the same exact speaking voice?
I’m so impressed with your production quality. You could really bump up your sound design now… hit me up if you wanna explore the space. I’m a pro sound designer. Cheers.
This is great! I love how good musical artists are very aware of the fact that they are creating for a community of listeners, and that they are somehow part of the passion and fascination of that community. There is, simultaneously, a keen sense of being true to your own unique creative voice, while also respecting that you are giving a gift to others, whose sensibilities you do have a regard for. (I am contrasting this in my mind with some of the strange corners of the visual arts, where there can sometimes seem to be no respect or awareness of an audience or a community of viewers, but rather, merely a lone creator, in an isolated universe, looking at himself in a mirror, the rest of reality be damned.)
Never stop talking about Prince, such a pleasure to hear your thoughts on his wacky side! It's not the way Prince is discussed generally, I love that there was no mention of him being an underrated guitarist or of his While My Guitar Gently Sleeps performance for once! Also I wanna hear your "what was he thinking?" discussions about those unknown records you speak of, I feel like this would be so nice to hear you discover this! But at the same time, it's best to let it happen naturally, recording everything we do is smthg we do nowadays but it's nice to have our own private discussion sessions and those must be dear to you! (however don't hesitate if you have some memories of discussion assigned to certain songs, would love to hear them!)
Very interesting but Cory is always full energy in all these episodes this time he seemed dialed down he looked like he had to take a nap in his car after this lol
