In this latest video, we show you how to completely control a wiper motor for use in a haunt prop. This include a demo if the AWESOME power of a wiper motor, plus the use of my soon-to-be-famous wiper motor demo board. Plus, at the end, I provide the complete schematic diagram for a controller that will let you control a wiper motor in both a forward and reverse direction, complete with limit switches for detecting the end of travel in both directions too! How can you NOT love wiper motors?!?!?!

Could you suggest how I would take the two direction setup and make it on a timer? Such as 8 seconds one direction and 8 seconds reverse direction. Then a timer to space that cycle out every 45 seconds or so?

you could probably use a condensator-resistor timer to control the relay

May I ask, does the 'breaking' of the motor uses this method cause undue wear on the motor. Would it burn the motor out quickly or is it just routine wear and tear ? Many thanks. This is excellent.

@AztecWarrior69
@AztecWarrior69 2 года назад
@@moonolyth Where I get hazy is when you say " I THINK THIS WOULD WORK VERY WELL WITH AN OLD SEWING MACHINE". As I have three Baby Locks, for Singers Pros, two Singers Light industrial and a heavy duty leather and upholstery monster and a few others and not one of the can be controlled with DC. I was scratching my head. Until I remembered we had DC powered sewing machines in the Army. Anyway back to the point. How are/would you use something that is meant for DC on an AC Machine (Assuming the your machine is AC)? Well assuming that you machine is AC, then the answer to the question, "CAN A SPEAD (speed?) CONTROL WORK WITH THIS, yes. Most machines use a pedal that is very simple to replace with a potentiometer. Placement will be determined by the machine itself. However most machines have them inline with the wall power. FYI I don't really like the way he does the polarity reversal or the power on and off, seems to convoluted. It does work tho so I took the time to clean up the diagram. drive.google.com/file/d/1x5Rbv6vX1mc2iVJJRk3j-7x_6W6srPWH/view?usp=sharing However I have a better easier solution. This type of two Single Pole Double Throw relay setup has been used for as long as there has been cars, and power windows & locks. It has all the features his has, Power "lock" motor, ON & OFF, and Polarity reversal. drive.google.com/file/d/18p7zlUtN7J6UH5hnGtQqhVBXldcOfCAC/view?usp=sharing

@@AztecWarrior69 tried replying twice for some reason hasn't taken. I have a hand crank that does not take a motor. Most setups for this machine take a very large pulley at the main shaft. With an AC motor. Large pulley wheel is for compensating on the higher speed. This wiper motor would run much slower with torque. Making it more controllable. Using smaller chain and gear with some sort of slipping key would allow better usage plus release for reverse hand cranking. I am a tinker with needle and thread. Far from perfect. A nice controllable motor would probably run 300 bucks. This setup would be small and Light... on the pocket too.

Why not just use two SPDT relays and be done with it? Breaking, polarity reversal, and power on and off are all taken care of. Far less convoluted. I have diagrams but youtub is not letting me post links to it.

When the motor shorts back to itself and stops, how long will it hold this position ?
@AztecWarrior69

The motor is off, so until it gets turn back on it will remain like that since there is no power.

@@AztecWarrior69 Would it hold this position without power, if under load ? Basically, would it hold a load when turned off ?
@AztecWarrior69
@AztecWarrior69 2 года назад
@@jackspratt4343 Wiper motors are a funny thing. They are strong and withstand high winds and rain and still move. Yet when you pick up the blade you can move the motor. Some you can't. It really depends on the motor, the load, how it is installed and purpose. BTW Just to make sure you understand, when people talk about this "Shorting" or "power lock/stopping", the energy that forces the motor to stop, dissipates very fast and is no longer there. This is mainly used to stop the motor quickly and not let it keep rotating with the momentum. If there is a load applied and the motor starts to turn, the motor becomes a generator. When that happens the motor starts putting OUT power, but locks again because of the short. This is not a true lock tho. If the motor is parallel to the ground and a lever is attached to the shaft (like a clock) and on the end of the lever you attach a weight. The weight will eventually rotate all the way down. Power off , lock, energy dissipates, weight makes lever rotate the shaft, power is produced and motor "locks" again. Cycle begins again until weight is all the way down. If you put the lever rotating level and parallel with the ground , then most likely the motor will say in that position. Again, It really depends on the motor, the load, how it is installed and purpose. If you need a motor that will hold position then you should look into getting a worm geared motor.

@AztecWarrior69
@AztecWarrior69 2 года назад
@@johnmoore3859 I agree on all that you said however it may not be all his own fault. The schematic is correct but it is a but difficult to see what is going on the second relay (top to bottom). The dashes that connect the contacts are cluttering up the positive wire that is being connected to the NO n NC. The Schematic is also all over the place. The wires are going up the back down and crossing other wires back down to where it goes instead of going straight to it. The Poster of this video need to learn NOT to go THROUGH the components with the wire. He also has components facing in one direction but the connection are in the other direction. Honestly this is a piss poor diagram. It is in fact correct tho. Either way I would not use it anyway. I reworked his diagram and made my own. Mine (in My opinion)(mine I mean diagram and working knowledge of, the idea has been in use in motor reversal for ages) is a much better way of getting this done. It gets everything accomplished that the video does but so much simpler and easier to do. drive.google.com/file/d/1NrQcrScxus-xfB_zWZGszqmqyCq2NNzn/view?usp=sharing drive.google.com/file/d/1E_s3D4rqx2HzyRXCXLZ_8FuZyQihFkFS/view?usp=sharing
