A few Crestie hacks of my own: - *Research your animal*. Find out more about its native environment. Your primary goal is to replicate this as closely as is reasonably possible. - Don't be scared of humidity. Cresties are a rainforest species which thrive in 70% humidity. 'Drying out' periods could potentially deprive your gecko of vital hydration, as most hygrometers are inaccurate at reading humidty! Cresties NEED water in order to properly function. Do not relentlessly pursue a false goal of 'drying out' your Crestie tank. Keep it clean and well ventilated.
Andrew Wood geez this comment is a year later okay so, I get scared I don’t wanna spray too much but I also don’t wanna spray too little, doesn’t it matter how much I spray since they rely on water so much?
I need to super thank you for the glass cleaner tip because not only am I prepping for a crested gecko, my aquatic turtles can hardly be seen through the buildup at it's worst spots and there were no tips I've seen so far that I felt comfortable risking it sliding into the water and their eyes like lime or vinegar would do, but this gel that I finally got to try today - not only does it stay where I put it; I could tell the difference quite quickly! It truly made a huge positive impact! Huge thank you!
I've found the easiest way for cleaning out the cap is to actually lay it in the sink, put the plug in and then run your hot water on it, as hot as it goes. Leave it like that while you're taking our your food, getting your scoop, bottles of water, etc. It's cleans it out perfectly and leaves nothing behind!
I use milk lids as food bowls as well, but make sure (if u just got a crested gecko and didn't know this) that you clean the milk out properly as they can't digest milk properly. Aha just thought it would be good to let people know who didn't already 😂❤️
I use a cave for my gecko's warm hide and he doesn't lay in it often, but he still lays on the heat mat around the hide, so I've never worried much about it. Also, I liked this video a lot! Keep up the good work! :)
hey leopardgeckotalk ,for my birthday I am getting a crested gecko. I have been telling my friends and parents all the information I learned from you so thank you!!! BTW love your content ❤❤
If you have trouble with humidity HVAC tape is excellent. You can make two layers back to back which will prevent the underside being exposed through the mesh ;)
I peel out the food like you do but then I always wash it with hot water and blue Dawn dish soap and dry it before I use it again. I have had my gecko for almost five months and I haven't needed to replace the lid I use yet :)
yeah I may have to in the future, its just ive had them so long I forget what I do that counts as a 'hack' because its just part of my daily routine, if you get what I mean haha
The peeling off the CGD technique reminds me of when you get PVA glue on your hands and you have to rip it off :P I remember we did this in primary school a lot and most people found it satisfactory; I just thought it hurt! Have you seen the brand new CGD out? It's by HabiStat and comes in six flavours (banana, mango, strawberry and then each of these again but with crickets)! I'd try using an Exo Terra compact top for the jungle dawn, you'd just have to make sure that it would fit in it...
i named my leopard gecko (Eila)[ i had no idea how to spell iy but i think thats a unique way] and obviously since im such a copy cat i got the idea from this channel, and everyone always gives me crap about how stupid and weird the name is . i personally love it lol!
Instead of using bubble wrap and tinfoil, you can buy something called reflectix. I made inserts for the screen part of the tank and put duct tape on the edges for a snug fit. Works perfectly and looks a tad nicer :)
Bacteria is a living organism; that being said some bacteria can live in other conditions that most can’t. Therefore u “removing the dried content” out of the lid isn’t getting rid of any of the bacteria that is still left
You can also use a reverse osmosis filter to get misting water that won't stain walls (as it will be close to mineral-free). A bit of an initial cost, but the clean glass is worth it in the end.
use Reverse osmosis water. doesn't leave any hard water stains. I'd suggest spraying down the whole tank to get up the proper humidity spike each night.
1:10 if you dont have a clean up crew or you dont like to pick at it. leave it on a windowsil for about two-three days it should dry up to a crust and already be peeled of f the edge
I've noticed that using distilled water in my spray bottle will not leave water marks, as the minerals from tap water/bottled water are removed. In case the minerals are beneficial for her health, I still use tap water when making her food and for her water bowl.
Spent a lot of time trying to clean and re-use those soda bottle caps and milk lids. Over time, too much of a hassle. Started to move to sauce lids which are super affordable and are perfect for the them with various sizes.
Great video! I was wondering if this is okay. could I stroke my geckos jaw, causing him to open his mouth and then feed him a cricket? He is reluctant to eat them but I've read they are good to the health of a crested gecko. Any replies would be great! I'm wondering if it's force feeding or not.
I just put water in the food dishes after it dries. The water makes it come off the sides and I can just dump the water in the garbage or sink and the food goes with it
As for the last hack; I have found with my crestie that if I she accidentally steps in water, she'll poop. Not sure why that is, but she does. This will definitely come in handy when she is constipated
Have had her a week now, for her age/time here she is very tame and absolutely adorable, and I've been definitely using many of your tips. Have started handling her a few days after I got her based on one of your videos and it has made her so much calmer in just a day or two, it was incredible - she went from super flighty and hard to catch to being hard to get off my hand, lmao. Thanks for your videos!
I personally, although maybe axcessive, to get the water spots off the glass. I take hot water with a little of vinigar in it, so the down the cage thoguhely (when empty and the gecko in a temp holding cage) then scrape it with a razor. it will look as if the cage was new. then wipe all the water vinigar off the cage walls. will not smell like vinigar after, water spots are gone, and somewhat sanitized.
My crested gecko (blitz) only likes to eat crickets and doesn’t like repash, he eats it sometimes. I don’t know if it will affect him if he doesn’t eat it
My male crested gecko looks the same like you're first crested gecko and I've got him from pets at home iswell and for how long do Crested geckos grow for?
I got a problem with my background. I have 2 parts made of wood.. And yeah I always spray the tank with water. Now the 2 parts are getting bigger and don't stick together anymore. And I cant just take them out because I made right away a bioactiv terra for my crested gecko and I don't want to desteoy everything. May you got a hack for that? It would be soooo helpfull.
How did you make such a good terrarium? Mine is horrible, It looks really boring and it's just two coconuts, 3 big plants that cover all the walls of the terrarium but front and back, and just some "walkways" from one side to the other.
i have an eyelash crested gecko. he is very shy. she doesnt go on my hand, and he runs away from me when i want to pet him. he only stays in his cage. Help on how he can like me?
Be warned this is long Ok I have 2 crested geckos there maybe 2 to 4 months there name is nugget and zen I got them from this reptile thing that’s here once a year and there tank has a coconut hut and a little hut with stairs on top and another water bowl and a giant vine and the food bowl are these stretchy caps and ty for the tips
Leopard Gecko thankyou! Btw huge fan of your channel, it's been very helpful in some of my research towards crested geckos and all your videos are just so interesting and fun to watch :) keep it up I love it✨💕
We where in PetSmart one time and we soak a girl taking someone to the dog area but she passed by the leopard geckos and started crying. We think she maybe quit but I’m not sure.
