The Colomban Cri-Cri ('cricket') is the smallest twin-engined manned aircraft in the world, designed in the early 1970s by French aeronautical engineer Michel Colomban. At only 4.9 m (16.1 ft) wingspan and 3.9 m (12.8 ft) length, it is a single-seater.
There are approximately 30 Cri-cri aircraft in airworthy condition in the U.S. and over 100 around the world as of 2003.
This clip is from our official Classic Fighters 2005 DVD. You can view the entire DVD movie on Historical Machines TV which is our premier video-on-demand streaming service at www.historicalmachines.tv/page.... It'll cost you less that the price of a cup of coffee for a monthly subscription (from US$2.99/month)!

My Grandfather built this plane and is the pilot in this video. I’m sitting with him now showing him how many views this video has and reading out the comments. He just wants to say that out of the several 10’s of thousands of hours he has piloted aircraft, the hours he spent in the plane was his favourite! Legend

In the early 1980s I worked for Zenair in Nobleton Ontario. Zenair manufactured these Crickets for the North American market. I used to make parts for the kits and was involved with sub assembly. The wing ribs were made from a red coloured sheet of foam that was baked in a large oven after being cut to shape. The foam was called Klegocell. The heating processed hardened the foam. The wing skins were Epoxy glued to the ribs. The two small engines had pull starts with the cables and handle located in the cockpit. The test pilot who was a retired RCAF pilot was named Red. I was fortunate enough to be able to go to Oshkosh’s air show and see one of our Crickets fly there. Also about 6 years ago I watch one taking off from a grass strip located on a farm not to far from where I live.

Amazing. I wonder if the records set by this aircraft will ever be broken? Could its design be updated with lighter materials? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZjffoRUDWtQ.html I was watching videos of a new aircraft called the Transwing, and it reminded me of your Cri-Cri, and so that's why I came here to view it.

Hi all. Cant believe this clip has so many hits. Have not looked at it for a couple of years. As builder and original owner of LBW I have to say it was the most rewarding construction and flying ever. Yes it does fly one one engine and maintain height. It has extremely responsive controls and very aerobatic, plus having two stroke oil mix feed engines will fly all day upside down. The most fun you can have with your clothes on. The day of this video was very gusty with plenty of turbulence. As you can see with its low inertia LBW is 'dancing' around a bit. Nev

In Mexico CriCri was a musician and music writer especialized in write children songs and he made a golden epoque of that kind of music. There are a couplle of places on the internet where you can get hold of the build plans for this plane. . Ebay has a few "slightly better choice engines that you can buy" (80hp each for about £200). Same price for each propeller give or take; and about £1500 for the aluminimun and other materials needed to construct the frame and wings. The clear acrylic glass is about another £250 without machining costs. In short roughly £5000 could get you this plane easily. Slightly less if you do most of the work yourself like I am doing. . .
