In Episode 2 I cover card kits, mats, how to change your blade, and we make our first card. In Episode 3 we'll add pens, markers and opaque pens (writing white on dark papers!). What to say THANK YOU very much for your video. You are they only one I have seen that did a WHOLE card. IN and OUT. alot of people show how to complete a front, then I'm ki d's lost for doing the inside. I don't have a joy, I have a maker, wanted an easier way for doing cards,so I got the card mat to use with my maker. NOW I can do inside, and have me alot of ideas HOW TO . God Bless you Darlin...I spent most of the day yesterday trying to write inside the card following a different video and only got frustrated. They left out like at least 20 steps. I am a newbie to Cricut. I bought a Cricut Joy about 2 months ago and have been trying to figure it out since then. So I really appreciate your very clear and concise instructions. I think some that make videos assume that everyone already knows how to use the machine. I am so thrilled with this and will be trying later. Thanks so very much. I subscribed to you.

Hi Kim...I've been a card maker for over 10 years (Stampin Up Demonstrator as well) and I bought the Cricut Joy. It's challenging to make laser like cut cards after having used 3D like embellishments and a variety of stamps and other mixed media techniques. Unfortunately my options are basic cut and under draw only “pen” with Joy. I selected writing for font. But I get an error message saying “pen not compatible.” Using pen sent with the Joy machine just purchased. I used a drawing from the Cricut offerings but no drawing works. Stuck. Is there a Cricut community for support that I can ask these kinds of questions? I’m very frustrated. Ty

Judith! Sorry for not responding. I don't ever get notifications for the follow-ups. I was literally just browsing through and saw your note. Eeek! You've probably already figured all this out, but most likely what is happening is that in the pen choices you have one of the Explore or Maker pens chosen. Make sure you choose the Joy pen. There are tons to pick from.

Your video helped me out really well. I have been trying to find something to help me out with learning how to write something that I wanted on the Cricut Joy machine. I just purchased the Joy around summer time. Hello kim, I'm new to cricut joy still learning what I can do on the cricut joy. I order engraving tip tool for cricut joy when I seen it on Amazon. I been trying to find out how to use it. Have you tryed it yet?

Hey T Daniel! As far as I know, the Cricut Maker is the only machine that can use the engraving tip unless it's something brand new. You could call Cricut tech support. They're great. Thanks so much for watching and happy crafting!

Hey Elaine! If you're on the Joy app it might not take you in to the canvas to do that. But if you're on desktop and you start with it as an image, you can delete/hide things in the layers panel. Happy card making!! 💕

Hi Kim, I did the writing and then added a flower to the middle between the writing and then grouped it all together. But when I went to print it/draw it it was all out of sequence and I had to rearrange it on that page. When I went back to try and regroup everything I could not get the flower "grouped" in. I am VERY new (like 2 days) to this and I'm sure I didn't do something right. Any suggestions or another video I should watch? Thank you so much.

Hi Lisa! Only three cards? Eeek! I switched mine recently but I had made about 25 cards on it. It wasn't super sticky after about 10, but good enough to hold. I'm not really sure how to bring them back to life. I use tape on the larger mats at the corner of the material, but that doesn't work well on cards since there is no corner to cut off if the tape messes the paper up. Would really like to have the machine print the lettering in the same depth/thickness as it would be if cut... Actually I would use it for drawing images with some depth instead of simple lines.

Hello Kim. I truly enjoy your channe! I was so excited about creating my messages inside my cards and I'm doing a wonderful job at it thanks to you. I've advanced to adding a border around my messages/greetings. But I noticed the colorful boarder loses all its colors after I attach everything. This is truly disappointing because it loses the pretty look I'm trying to create. Is there anything I can do to keep the colorful boarders from turning black? The border I was trying to use had 7 different colorful circles. Thank you!😊

Hey Sharon! So glad you're loving the channel. Thank you for watching! As for the card, make sure that your circles are pens and not cuts. If pens, you should be able to make all the colors you want. The attach tool can do that depending on what you're making and what you're attaching because when you "attach" it's telling all those cuts to go to one mat and the mat can only be one color. Let me know and I'll try to help you figure it out. 😊

Hi Jodes! Cards on the Maker are a bit different. I wish they would make a Maker and Explore Card Mat, but no such thing yet. Are you making cards on your Maker already and just want to know how to write and draw in them? Or are you looking for a video that starts from scratch? @@KimByers I’ve have been making the cards on the maker. But I’ve also got the card mat for the joy with heaps of cards, inserts and envelopes that fit the card mat for the joy. I really don’t want to purchase the joy as I love the maker. I’m a beginner

Great video. Thanks for showing how to write the sentiment! How do make the insert tabs even, please? Even with the card put at the very top edge of the card mat, many times my top slits are closer to the edge than the bottom slits. (Sometimes dangerously so). Thank you!

So glad you like the video Debra and thank you for subscribing! 💕 As for the cuts, I hear you! That happens to me sometimes. I find when I place it on the mat perfectly at the top I fair a lot better, but I think it has something to do with the fold/crease. Those cuts are so precise and when the cardstock is even a 1/8 of an inch off it gets dangerously close to the edge. Wish I had a fix for you!!

Thanks for this video, I got my joy on Friday. I tried to do a card but my blade didn't cut totally. Do you need different blades with this machine.

Hi Carla! There is only one blade for the Joy. It could be that you need to choose a different type of cardstock in the dropdown of choices. The blade cuts at different depths depending on what type of paper you select. Thanks so much for watching and happy card making!! 💕

Oh Karen I wish I could remember. Others have asked. I want to say that I picked it up at JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores as a single sheet. It's a heavy weight, likely 100lb. Die Cuts With A View (DCWV) has some pretty things, but I'm not sure if that is what this was. I hope you find some lovely cardstock! Thanks so much for watching and happy card making! 💕

You are an awesome teacher. I just got my Joy 2 days ago and I am already having so much fun. So do you have a trick for keeping the little bits down on the cut part so they do not get accidentally damaged when people hold it? I did a Feliz Navidad card but the parts of the cut out that are floppy do not lay down properly and I almost lost a few of them. I used glue of course but I was wondering if there was a particular glue that might not penetrate to the other side. Thanks again. Love and Peace, Catherine

Hey Catherine! I use a fine "pen glue gun" sometimes. It's made by Xyron. Hi Terri! Do you mean writing on the inside? If so, I would personally write each in its own box and then use "align" to center them all with each other. I hope you enjoy your Cricut JOY! I have a question. I am very new at this Cricut experience and somewhat intimidated. I was following along on your video with a different card selection. I ran into a problem. The insert was too large for the card I cut. I paid for the card already. How do I make sure it all fits before paying?

Good morning! So the insert, that came with card in Cricut Design Space, didn't fit? That is odd. It sound s like a design issue and something Cricut needs to address in the system. Do you have a paper trimmer? They're about $12 and honestly I use mine ALL THE TIME. It's so great and will take an issue like this and fix it up in seconds. I know you want the card you purchased to be perfect, and I'm sorry it's not, but this little tool in your craft space is great to make your own inserts too! Hey Wendy! So glad you like the video. 😊As for the predesigned cards, it would be very difficult. You could use the contour tool to erase a word, but you wouldn't have the same font to replace it. A few of the designs they provided both Mum and Mom, but not all of them. Happy crafting! 💕

Hi Nancy! Do you mean the flowery pattern paper? I just go to the craft store and walk the paper isle for patterns that I think are pretty. 😊 Cricut has precut inserts, but they're mostly solids and I love a good pattern. 💕 Thanks for watching!

I loved this video. Just one question. You used the font from Design Space, don't you have to pay for that? Can you download some other fonts that are free and use them?

Hey John! You can choose to use fonts on your computer or fonts in Cricut Design Space (some are free, some are free with Cricut Access and some you pay for). SO beyond frustrated right now. I followed all of the steps. I used the square first to make sure my design would fit on the card, but now when I go to print, it will not allow me to choose the size mat I want to use the 4.25x5.5. It keeps giving me the larger size even though I created my project on a 4.25x5.5 square in design space. This has happened to me before and I just don't know how to fix it. I even recreated the entire project on a new canvas and it still is not working. :( Any suggestions?

Oh Meredith! I'm so sorry it's not working. I can't imagine why. You're using the Joy, you selected the card mat, you sized the design on the canvas as 4.25x5.5. And when it comes to the mat view it's making the card larger? I've never had that happen before. I'm actually making five Christmas cards today for my next video. I'll play around with it and see if I can figure out why this is happening to you. If I find something I'll comment back here. In the meantime, I would call the Cricut Help Desk. They are very helpful in my experience. Hope it all comes together for you! Happy crafting! 😊💕
