Hey friends! It's now 2023 and I'm sharing a NEW CARD MAKING SERIES on the channel. I'd love for you to follow along. You can find the first episode in the series here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jbK17Sr2VMs.html In Episode 1 I cover how to find card designs in Cricut Design Space on desktop and in both apps. In Episode 2 I cover card kits, mats, how to change your blade, and we make our first card. In Episode 3 we'll add pens, markers and opaque pens (writing white on dark papers!). Then we'll move on to foil, embellishments, writing on the inside of the cards, envelopes, shaped cards, print then cut, photo cards and so much more. Hope you'll subscribe and I'll see you there! 💕
After struggling unsuccessfully for about three hours to design and make my own card, I did a RU-vid search and found your video. My 3 hour effort has now been simplified to a 15 minute project. Thank you so much.
Thanks so much for crafting with me Katie! And so glad I was able to share. I have an entire playlist dedicated to making cards and I've added two in the past week. 😀💕 ru-vid.com/group/PLYJAbsWmbUWZmt479KJbJUmZ1psfU_Rd9
First, thank you for taking the time to film, share and show us how-to. Second, I could listen to you talk all day; your voice is soothing, calming and if you were selling something-I'd buy it just from your eloquent tone alone!
You are too sweet Ms. DeeDee! Thank you for the kind words. I so very much appreciate them! I used to be terrified to get in front of the camera and I've finally worked through it and now I love it. Sweet comments like yours keep me going. I hope you'll subscribe and join me for my 12 Days of Cricut Christmas series. 💕🎄Here are links to my first two videos: Snowman mugs with Joy: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8CPRLdsOSXo.html and 3D Snowflakes with any machine: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TaltZiZQ8A0.html Happy crafting! 💕
I just got my cricut joy. Watching yr videos are really helpful. Because I have no clue. I do have my cricut Explore air. So when I have questions I'll send you a message. Thanks for sharing the videos.
Thank you so much. I really want to use my card bases that I already know how to cut. It is so very helpful to know that i can do more of the designing and not just the assembly! Thanks so much for sharing!
Just got my Joy and was able to follow your directions. Cricut has added so many insert cards since your video. Had to find the one with correct dimensions. The first insert I chose was 4.5x6. Now off to learn how to write inside card. Thank you!!!!
Thanks so much for watching Diane! So glad the video was helpful and you're right, they've added a ton! Here's a quick video on writing inside! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JhWxjO8ZovE.html Happy card making! 💕
Congrats on getting the Cricut Joy! And so glad you like the video. 💕I have an entire video series on Cricut Joy here if you'd like more: ru-vid.com/group/PLYJAbsWmbUWYQvlfCj2d203lfVxeSlVbv Happy crafting! 😍
Thanks so much. This video helps with the Design Space in the Cricut Joy, especially for a first time Cricut user! I’m used to stamping and die cutting my cards so there’s a bit of a learning curve. Great job!
So glad the video was helpful Nydia! Once you get the hang of Cricut Design Space and the Cricut Joy you'll LOVE all the little machine can do. Here's my Joy playlist of videos. You might find some more card making ideas! ru-vid.com/group/PLYJAbsWmbUWYQvlfCj2d203lfVxeSlVbv Happy crafting! 💕
@@KimByers Thank you again Kim. I certainly will look through your playlist and watch more of your videos on the Cricut Joy!! You’re inspiring and a very good teacher! 😻
Thank you for this video, this was the first one I watched when I purchased my first Cricut, a Cricut Joy machine. I have now upgraded to the Cricut Maker and Came back to refresh myself on the contour removal I remembered from this video. Keep up the GREAT work. Your videos are easy to watch and not in the least annoying like some others.
Hello Kim. I was very excited about this video. I'm ready to make my very first card from scratch and this video was a huge help. I can't wait to make it this evening! Thank you for all of your wonderful lessons.
thank you so much Kim. I just made my first very own card design and it fits just perfect for the little girl I made it for. She loves mermaids and now I could gift her birthday present with the best birthday card.
Good tips on how to pick a design suitable for the card cutting, i kept ending up with a missing middle! I knew i was missing a step and it was contouring! Thank you so useful!
You made my day with this video! I found out on 8/9 that Ready-to-Make projects in DS would not load to my mat and I was "bummed out" and had to add sentiments to a card I had already added writing to the inside of the Joy card (I hate to waste product). I love my Joy and the easy access and quickness of creating these small cards especially for the little ones. Thank you very much for this and I subscribed to your channel just now!
Om goodness thank you for your videos! I just discovered you today and am so less intimidated to get cranking on some fun with my Cricket Joy! Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Thanks so much for watching Carolyn! The Joy and cards can be a ton of fun. As a matter of fact, I'll be making Christmas cards with the Joy next week so stay tuned! 💕
Thanks so much for crafting with me Carolyn! I have a new card making series that I'm in the middle of right now if you want to check out some of my newer videos: ru-vid.com/group/PLYJAbsWmbUWZPbhDp-RMRDaRVfZScaYct Happy card making!!
Hi Heidi! So glad the video was helpful! And I can totally see missing the cover. 😍I've done so many funny things my first go. Thanks for watching and happy crafting! 💕
Ty so much!! I just got my first ever Cricut and was a little confused how to do it myself ok a lot confused lol. You explained everything clearly and quickly. You rock!!
Thank you. This was very informative. I watched and watched to find the Contour button, but could never see where you clicked. Also, I would love to see you design a Joy card but then position it on a regular Maker mat and cut it with that.
Hi there Lynn! Here's a video on using the Contour tool. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vP5EaZoM96c.html And a little tip, make sure that you are clicked on (only selected) one item in the Layers panel or it will gray out and you won't be able to use it. Thanks so much for watching and I hope this helps! 💕
Thank you for making this video. I just got the Cricut Joy a couple of weeks ago and have made some of the premade cards and there are plenty of them that I would make but I have been wondering about how to make cards from scratch.
Yay! Congrats on joining the Cricut family. You're going to love crafting with your new machine. Did you buy a Joy? I have lots of Cricut Joy tutorials with more coming: ru-vid.com/group/PLYJAbsWmbUWYQvlfCj2d203lfVxeSlVbv And I have videos for the Explore and Maker machines too! Thanks so much for watching and happy crafting!
Thankyou so much for this tutorial. I purchased a template and I've searched everywhere trying to find out how to make a card, but it kept cutting the image away. I have learnt so much from your video, and made my first ever card!!
Hi Kim. I have seen a video which shows you how to customise the make it now projects by using the customise button. I have recently got a Cricut Joy and am still in the trial month. I do not have the customise button attached to the projects and wondered if this was because I am still in the trial period. I intend to subscribe when it runs out as I am very impressed with all Cricut Access has to offer. Thanks, Amanda
Hey Amanda! In the beginning of Joy the cards were not editable and skipped right over the canvas, not allowing you to make tweaks. Now you can bring it into canvas and use the Contour Tool to make tweaks to the design. 😍💕 That said, I wouldn't change the pre-set size or you'll have problems when it goes to mat. I've not been on the Trial version of Access for a long time so I'm sorry I don't know if that is why you are seeing the card that way. The Cricut help desk is super helpful and quick. Maybe contact them? Here's a quick tutorial on the Contour Tool if you need it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vP5EaZoM96c.html More of my Cricut Joy videos and adding more all the time! ru-vid.com/group/PLYJAbsWmbUWYQvlfCj2d203lfVxeSlVbv Happy crafting!! 💕
Hi Kayla! So glad you like the tutorial. As for quantity, yes, only one at a time, but if you're not personalizing the inside you can make one in just a few minutes. Like literally two minutes. It's so fast.
Thank you soooooooo much!!! My joy is arriving in 3 days and can’t wait. Looking to use my own supplies of scrapbooking so I really needed this video.. have subscribed because I loved how you did the tutorial and how easy it was to watch everything, learn and keep up with you. Think I will be awhile learning the computer part, but I’m sure I’ll get better as time goes by. Thanks again!
So glad you're here Pam! And so glad you found the video helpful! Congrats on getting the Joy!! Here's a link to all my Cricut Joy craft videos. These will help you get started! ru-vid.com/group/PLYJAbsWmbUWYQvlfCj2d203lfVxeSlVbv And as for learning how to use Cricut Design Space, I have a full series of videos on how to use the features. I hope you'll have a look: ru-vid.com/group/PLYJAbsWmbUWat-ZVX_gVMwIQlUo4VNVef Happy crafting!!!
Thank you soooo much! This looked really easy. I have an Explore Air 2 I got for last Christmas and just got myself the Joy, so looking forward to trying this out!
Hey Bill! Once you get used to the little Joy you're going to LOVE it. So many fun and quick projects you can make. Thanks for watching and happy crafting!!
This is GREAT Kim!! Thank you for sharing! I love all the cards that are available on Etsy and on Cricut Access but I was looking for my personal touch!
I now know what the problem was when I tried to make a card before. I didn't realize that there were different sizes of cut corners and I chose the wrong one. Re-watching this video helped me realize that. I went back in and unsaved the corners that were the wrong size so now I shouldn't have anymore problems. Thank you! Update: I put everything together and went to make it. The card size is 4.25x6 with no option to change it. I don't know what I am doing wrong. Update #2: I think I finally got it! I decreased the image size inside the cut corners and now I am getting the correct card size and everything when I go to "make it" ! That was rough but I think I'm okay now!
Good morning Deanna! So glad you're having fun with your JOY! And I'm actually making Christmas cards with my Cricut Joy today to post a bit later this week. Stay tuned! 😍🎄In the meantime, here are a ton of other projects you can make: ru-vid.com/group/PLYJAbsWmbUWYQvlfCj2d203lfVxeSlVbv
Thank you! You.made it so easy to follow along. I’ve subscribed to your channel and saved this video so I can refer back to it. I can’t wait to watch the video where we write inside! Thanks again! :0)
Hi, Love love love the video, did everything just as you did in the video, however my corner cuts for the inserts cards are cutting off the paper...why? are they meant to be a different size?
Hey there! So glad you like the video! As for the corners, that has happened to me before too. You have to be really careful of the paper placement on some designs. They don't look any different on screen, but I had a few cut dangerously close too. Shift your card up or down a bit depending on which side is getting cut off. If it is a consistent place, take a sharpie and mark your mat so you know where to place your paper each time. And maybe test with scrap cardstock so you don't waste your cards! :) Thanks for watching!
You're so very welcome Kathryn! Thank you for watching!!! I have tons more Cricut Joy videos and adding more all the time here: ru-vid.com/group/PLYJAbsWmbUWYQvlfCj2d203lfVxeSlVbv Happy crafting!! 💕
When I'm on the main page and ask for cards for joy I get everything but joy cards. I want cards already made and I can't find any. It even had Joy at the top for machine I use...... But I will be making my own now thank you so much.
I completely agree that Cricut could make it much easier to find cards. To be able to see them all, and sort by size. Yes please. The app does a significantly better job than the desktop version, which I personally use the most. Here's a tutorial I made for the app if you want to give it a try. It will allow you to better easily make your own designs: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wKh7efQtVdE.html
Thanks for the video. Still trying to decide which Cricut I am going to get and I am leaning towards the Joy. I would make cards more than anything. Can you use your own images to make cards? I don't plan on paying Cricut each month for theirs.
Hey Donna! Yes! You can absolutely make your own cards and upload them to the Cricut Design Space app. And the Joy can make all kinds of other projects. I have an entire RU-vid library of Cricut Joy projects if you'd like to take a look: ru-vid.com/group/PLYJAbsWmbUWYQvlfCj2d203lfVxeSlVbv Happy crafting!
Kim - Thanks for sharing this video. I have the Cricut Joy and Maker. It seems as though most tutorials on RU-vid are designed for the A-2 size, do you have a source for the larger 5x7 or 6x9 cards as well?
Hey there Tew Much! I've not made the larger cards, but I'm hoping to make some graduation cards for a video very soon. I'll look into those sizes. 😊 Thanks so much for watching and happy card making! 💕
which cricut trimmer do you use and which bone folder/paper creaser do you recommend. I already have trimmers (Creative Memories) but thinking of up dating to a Cricut trimmer. Have read reviews and some are real pleased - others rated Cricut with a 1. Thanks for your help. I have learned alot from your videos.
Hey Bernice! I have both linked in the video description with a few choices: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AZDW_ZqA7SU.html 😊💕 So glad you find the videos helpful. Thanks for watching and happy card making!
They were originally called "quick corners" and I think that search term still works. You can also use the Quick Start feature in the phone app and it brings all the corners right up for you. I have a video on it if you've not tried it yet: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wKh7efQtVdE.html Happy card making!!💕
Hey Lisa! You choose it in Cricut Design Space. It will only give you an error if you choose a pen made for the explorer or the maker. Thanks for watching and happy crafting! 💕
Hi! Loved this video. I have a Christmas Card in my head and now I may be able to make it. What I can't do is change the size of the card after I pick card mat. Yours was highlighted but not mine. Any suggestions? Thanks!! Karen
Hey Karen! So typically when something is grayed out in Cricut Design Space you're clicking on something else that makes it unavailable. For instance, in the canvas, if you're highlighting more than one item in a design (like two flowers) then the tools (contour, slice, etc.) won't work because you've selected two things. If you click off and back on to just one, the tools will show as available. I tell you all this because maybe you've have more than one thing highlighted or selected? Or, you chose a base design that only comes in one size? I'm not sure if I'm being helpful at all, but this is all I can think of! I hope you figure it out!! 💕
Mrs Kim! I am able to creat a card per your instructions however it will not print properly. It cuts up the card! How do you make your custom card fit on the card mat
Hi there! Are you using the blank card templates (with the cut edges) as your base card? That is the trick. Use the Joy card blanks and then add your own details. If you do that, and your needle is good, your machine shouldn't mess up your card. I hope this helps! Happy crafting and thanks for watching! 😍
@@KimByers thank you! I meant to say it’s not aligned . I’ve made to beautiful cards with your awesome tutorial but when I go to print the measurements go back to 4’x5.5. I’m gonna try again and see. Thank you so much for the response
Hey Debbie! I'll need to think that one through. I'm making Christmas cards in next week's video so I'll put that on my "to do" when planning it out. It should be live next weekend. Happy card making! 💕
Using the Cricut Joy to make insert cards; some designs have a lot of cut details, that don't always lay well, should I glue to back before I use the insert card?? thank you for your tutorial.
Hey Bijoux! Yes. I've had that issue before and I will insert my "insert card" into the finished card, and then use glue (the Xyron pen glue gun or small ZOT glue dots, both on Amazon) to secure the stray items. I've even attached extra little details with raised foam dots for a 3-D effect. Happy card making! 💕
I have noticed a few of the ready made brackets are not in the best place for the insert cards. How do I measure or insure the bracket cuts are in the right place. I have ruined several cards... :( thank you for the tutorial. I have learned a lot.
Hey there Bijoux! Do you mean the "quick corners" in Design Space? (That is what they're called in case you need to search for them.) I've not had trouble with them being too small. Make sure that you're choosing the right corners for the size card you're making (R30, R40, S40, etc.) and don't resize them once you have them on the canvas. If you want to resize something in your card design, make sure that the corners are not selected. To keep from ruining any more card insert kits, I would cut some regular printer paper down and test them before cutting another card. I have a card making kit video here that might help: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UFFIToNjFl8.html I hope you figure it out and can get back to having fun!
I am trying to make this card and it shows on my project as 4.5 x 5.5 but when I try to make it, I choose card mat and the size comes up x 6.25 and there is no way to change it. What am I doing wrong?
Hey Kim! Hmmm... it shows in design as 5.5 and when it goes to mat it's larger? Did you cut it and the edges were off the paper? I know the mat can go up to 6.25, but I've not had one change sizes from Design Space to the mat. I'm not sure what's wrong. It might be a good idea to call the Cricut help desk. They are wonderful!
Hey! I've actually not tried to make one but I can bet it will take a lot of weeding. If you're getting a "blob" then your blade might be dull. You might want to replace it soon. It could also be your paper. Are you using the Cricut kits? Or a lighter paper stock? Lighter weights can sometimes tear. Thanks so much for watching and I hope the next one turns out better! 💕
Hey Diane! Click the design when in the mat preview and shift. OR, there should be three little dots on the upper right of the view that you can click. It depends if you're on mobile or desktop. Thanks so much for watching and happy card making!! 💕
Hi Julia! Do you mean to the inside? Here's a quick video showing you how: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JhWxjO8ZovE.html Thanks so much for watching and subscribing! 💕
Hey Cara! When you say "crumpled," do you mean the machine ate or tore your materials? If you've cut a lot of paper lately, sometimes paper dust and lint can get under the rollers area and on the blade. It may need to be cleaned. Hope this helps so you can get back to crafting and having fun! Thanks for watching! 💕
Hey Toni! It is. Here's the code: # M7BC3703 (delete the space between the # and the code before searching in Design Space) and it should pop right up. Thanks for crafting with me!
Do you mean making them? Or addressing them? Addressing, yes. Cutting, not really because of the size limitation and it can't score. If you want to see how to address them, I have a video for you! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nQSxvxvIzxY.html Thanks for watching and happy crafting! 💕
Hi ! I just was about to cut my card however when I set the material type to card mat it did not allow me to change the material size ? There’s no arrow that I could click on to change it it is just stuck at 4.5 by 6.25 any idea how to fix it?
Hi Daniella! There are not really options for the card mat. It's just the one size. When you're looking at the mat layout right before you cut there is a small option in the left side that has two choices but 4.5x6.25 is the largest option. Were you hoping to cut bigger?
Hi guys - I had the same issue but I just went for it with the bigger dimensions selected (as I had no choice!) and made sure my design was set to be in the top left corner and it printed out perfectly fine on the cricut insert cards that were 4.25 x 5.5 :)
Thank you for the tutorial. It was very helpful, however, when I go to cut it automatically makes the change to 4.5 x 6.25 then the card cuts off the paper and its ruined. Is there a way to fix this or is it a design flaw?
Hi Danylle! You should be able to change the size in Cricut Design Space once you get to the mat, left side of your screen if you're on desktop. The Joy currently only has two sizes in DS. I've only ever used the smaller of the two. I hope you're able to get it set and start enjoying your card making! Thanks so much for watching!
Hey Najebie! I have a video of 15 Cricut tips and tricks and in it I share the best way to clean mats. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CloJu2RNiCs.html It's tip 5 at minute 6:28. 😊 Thanks so much for watching and happy card making!! 💕
Yes, the Joy can absolutely draw or cut, but for them to be attached to the card, the letters have to be connected. Otherwise when you cut the letters out, there is just a hole. Does that make sense? If you cut one you'll see what I mean. Thanks for watching and happy crafting!
Hey Becki! Do you mean when you're writing on the inside of the card? If you center it in the template you're using it will know. I have another video for writing inside cards in my Cricut Joy playlist. 😊 Thanks so much for watching and happy card making!
Hey Jean! Actually no. Cricut Design Space is free, and you can use all the free cuts and designs in CDS to make cards from scratch. 😀 Cricut Access will of course give you many more choices, but you can make things without it. Happy card making!!
