Definitely going to get the foiling tool.thank you Angie, just got my Cricut Joy, I’m amazed what this little machine can do, I’m gonna go broke buying all the accessories…
LOL. I just got my Cricut Joy for an early xmas present and sooo agree with going broke buying the accessories. Not doing the heating transfer unless its just the iron on vinyl . I found this video very helpful. :)
It's a good idea to cover your cutting mat excess space with paper while your placing the materials. The first time I used my foil tool, I dropped my foil sheet onto my cutting mat. I now have a silver triangle in the middle of my mat. It wasn't the end of the world, but the foil sheet was ruined.
Great Video! Do you have a video for putting/transfering a gold foil name on a small object like an epoxy pen? I just purchased the Cricut Joy. Thank you!
Thank you for eexplaining the Cricut Joy Foil Transfer Kit. Your tutorial was on point. Sorry to see the foil did not adhere to the faux leather that would have been really cute.
What material do you put in the desing space plese? Have three pre configurations for foil. I used foil 0,36 (or something like that) and didn't word well. Can you help me?
I need help 😭😭 I can’t get my foil tool to transfer properly 😞 it’s only working on textured cardstock, doing a very bad job on smooth cardstock or shimmer paper 😞 I pull it tight as much as I can
Thanks so much for this video! I just got a cricut joy and learning what I can (and can't do) with it and I wasn't sure how the foiling worked. You explain it so well. Subscribed for sure!
Since both Foil Transfer and Foil Acetate are compatible with the Joy, can you foil transfer onto acetate (clear, without a pattern)? I've been making bookmarks with foil acetate and using vinyl to decorate them, but I'd love to know if you can do foil transfer on them.
That was amazing. You answered all of the questions I would have asked. Thank you so much. Thank you for not be afraid to show how the project didn’t work out. I learned so much. And now feel a bit more familiar with my machine. Thanks again 👏
@@AngieHolden I am able to make cards on my phone with the Joy app and design space app. But when I try and use my laptop to go online to design space it creates every thing I want except cards. They come out off center or super small. It's pretty odd. I will probably call tech support this week.
Great video! Thanks for sharing, I just had one question, can you foil on transparent vinyl and cut shapes with the Joy? For example, a round sticker with a logo foiled onto it. Also, would it need to be laminated before being cut? Have searched online for so long about this :(
Where did you go to get the flower card? In my Cricut Joy, I have that card but can't add the foil or make the sticker. Hope you can help me out cause really want to give this a try. Thank you for sharing. Like to get the flower card onto Design space like what you have on your's hope this makes any scents to you, just learning on how to use Design space and trying new ideas.
Re: earrings - As another commenter said…someone had good luck foiling on the smooth leather vs the textured? Also wondering if a fixative spray that’s safe on leather would set the foiling on the earrings? I think there are many fixative sprays that work on leather. It’s almost always a good idea to fix or seal virtually any design applied to whatever surface or substrate you may be working on. Earrings often get a lot of wear against the skin and all so no matter what, a protective seal would be good, I think.
TFS, Angie. Just bought the transfer tool. I don't make cards with the Joy. But would love to add elements to the card fronts I do make like floral borders. What type of design would I use? I searched for "foil pen", foil, and didn't pull up much. However can upload my own. What should I be looking for? TIA.
Too bad the foil didn't work on the earrings. However, I'm excited to know it did cut the fake leather. I bought some too make key rings with. Knowing that I can cut it on the Joy will make things a lot easier for me. My machine is expected to arrive tomorrow. I'm spending the day learning. At least you can fool on papers. That's a good thing.
On Amazon there is an off brand foil transfer kit for the Joy with three inserts for the housing, fine, medium, and bold tip. Have you ever used one like this? Is it safe, or should I stick with the Cricut brand? Thanks!
Thanks! 2 yrs later commenter and newbie Joy user here…I’ve had mine for about a year, but finally getting into seriously making use of it. It really is a neat & fun little machine. I wish I had known the Joy xtra was coming, but oh well. I guess I’ll get that one sometime in the near future bc the additional features are very appealing. I’m gonna get the foil pen for this one. but I’m also a card maker, used to using the more typical dies and stamps. So while the foil embellishment is very nice, the line width is very thin and as a traditional card maker, I would want thicker line widths bc I think it would look like a stronger design. Nevertheless, this is a nice alternative for Joy users who just want to make some cute cards with that little something extra on occasion. And it is so easy and Im sure I’ll use it for a bit of extra embellishment sometimes. When I want to do some serious and bolder foiling, I’d just use the well-known laminator with foil-sensitive designs method(that you can get with a laser printer or other foil-attracting sticky substance like certain glues.)
Thank you Angie loved the foil tool. Thank you for all your videos I am really learning alot. I would like to know is it you that is offering a JOY PACKAGE GIVE AWAY. I received a message about it and to click on it. I didn't just wanted to make sure it is you. Please let me know. Also we will keep crafting
I like the fact that you can add foil to the insert cards. Not sure weather that will be enough to mask me want to spend the money on that since I do have the foil tool got the maker. Most of the time I make cards by hand and use the joy for quick cards. Something to consider
Oooh I was feeling so stupid not being able to find the right settings on the app, I don't think I saw this information anywhere else! 2 years after this video and it seems to still only be available on the computer! Thanks for the tutorial!
Can you use non cricut brand foil with the foil tip? Love these ideas so looking to get one of these! For the faux leather try sealing it with a gloss acrylic spray sealer before removing them from the mat to add a bit of a barrier to the foil? Worth a try I 🤔
Hi Angie, first thank you for these helpful video and for all the time you put to doing these. QUESTION: could you cut a quote with the foil transfer sheets ? Thank you and please Take care & Stay safe !
Love the video thanks for sharing, not sure if you’ve updated this video but I used the Cricut Joy app on my iPad and I could use the foiling tip just fine, I like how easy and fast that app was to make a quick card. Love your Chanel, happy crafting 🎉😊🎉
I am a new subscriber and love your tutorials; they are short, sweet, and to the point. I have a question about how much foil you're using. I'm curious why you didn't trim the foil to a smaller piece when doing the flower stems on the card. Wouldn't that help save how much you are using? Once you've used a piece, can you keep using it?
You can trim the piece. Two things though. The tape can damage the paper. And you will have to locate the foil and the lines exactly so it does not get off.
This little thing is what I would like to have can you make applique patches with this I'm not into big things. I have to say this You and Zoe D have me convinced that the Circut Joy is the one for me. no, I'm serious I'm not the type to listen to any celebrity
Hi Angie, thanks for the video! Certainly answered a few questions I have about getting one. You mentioned that it won't work with the Joy App, but can I still use the Cricut Design Space App on my phone/iPad with it? My desktop is not wifi friendly so I use my phone for my Joy. I'm still learning both apps but prefer to use my desktop for most things then just open stuff up in the app to transfer to my Joy. Hope that makes sense! Thanks again!
I love the card and matching seal sticker project idea that was a lot of fun! I’m a total Joy Newbie (cricut newbie entirely actually) and was curious if it’s possible to foil in multiple colors on the same piece to make an single image, like layered foiling or something? Like do the leaves and stem in green then the flower in pink and maybe stamen in yellow and clouds in silver for example, is that something that is possible? I’m excited to learn all about all of it ! I went right for the card bundle :-)
@@AngieHolden I’m super excited ! I’m finding out that this machine is more capable than it was at its release and the more I learn the more excited I am!
What did do wrong? 1st time I used the foil transfer kit. Picked a free card that draws and cuts. Loaded foil onto a Cricut card insert (linen effect surface) and swapped cut blade for foil nib. It didn’t work! The foil didn’t transfer :/ was it the linen effect card?
I have found that some papers just do not work with the foil. However, I haven't been able to narrow which ones do not work so I don't have a video on it!
I always have luck with the Cricut cardstock but I don't know if I have tried any of theirs that is a weird texture. It seems to be like smooth surfaces that it doesn't do great on.
So you know if Cricut discontinued the foil tool for the Joy? I am in Canada and can't seem to find it anywhere. I Love my Joy....just an easy way to create and not be overwhelmed by all the other stuff...even though I have the maker and a sublimation printer. Thanks
The design you used for the Joy Card..... was it a ready made design? If so how did you get it into your design space to edit. I'm unable to customize any of the ready made cards and have to go directly to make it. Thanks.
All of the ready to make cards are also in design space as images. If you pull them up as images, you can edit them. So if you find one you like, go to images and search for it there.
Love all the videos very educational! My question is can all or any of the cricut machines do sheet punches? And if so can you do a tutorial on it please! Thank you!
Angie, thank you for this video! I did not know that we could use Design Space to do foiling and I do have it on my desk top. I thought we had to use the app on an iPhone and were limited to making cards. I love your projects and your experimenting. Your directions are always easy to follow.
