Rich Homie Quad, there's 4 rich homies. A plethora of Rich Homies if you will. But to be serious for a moment, if anyone here is struggling with addiction, I was addicted to Heroin for 5 years in my early 20s. I OD'd and was hospitalized 7 different times, went to jail 3x and ended up doing a year in jail/rehab, and just generally screwed up every other aspect of my life. But I beat it, and have been off it for nearly 10 years now. In that time, I had my criminal record totally expunged, I went back to college and got a Bachelors in Computer Science, became a Software Engineer, and am now starting grad school to get a PhD in Computer Science at a top program. I also met the love of my life who I have been with for 8 years. You can beat it, and you can fix much of what you destroyed. But you have to want that, and you might need to seek help from professionals and be honest with them.

Cold turkey is a rare success story, that's very impressive. But that's the thing with drug addiction. Getting clean is only something that works once you've decided to live that sober life. Once you have, it's anyone's guess as to what will work on you. It's why I'm not a fan of AA because it demonizes anyone who doesn't use their system to get clean. But that's not to say I don't love that they're out there saving lives, just that there should be more acceptance that people find success in myriad ways.

I have chronic pain. I was on fentanyl 24/7 for 15 years. My doctor told me I would be on it for life. Then, the DEA started sweating doctors at pain clinics and I was cut off. I went through 3 solid years of hell. I was hospitalized several times because I was suicidal. I had brutal treatments like ECT to try and restart my brain. Nothing worked. Only time has made it better. It has now been 6 years and I still struggle. Illegal fentanyl kills. But legal fentanyl allowed me to continue to work and feed my family for 15 years. Now I'm bedridden living (if you can call it that) in constant pain. And nobody gives a shit. There is another side to almost any story. I guess I'm collateral damage. But it pisses me off that I was betrayed that way. 🤬🤬

Thank you for talking about addiction. For about 15 years I was addicted to heroin and any other drug I couldn’t get my hands on (a garbage pail junkie if you will). I overdosed countless times, had multiple run ins with police, lost my apartment, lost friends, didn’t talk to my family, had no money and had to beg borrow and steal etc. I finally decided enough was enough and I’ve been clean for about 6 years now and have rebuilt my life. Anybody thinking that they can’t get out of the cycle of addiction if I can do it then anybody can do it!!!

If fentanyl and diacetylmorphine (Heroin) were legalized, and manufactured only by legally operating drug companies, this kind of thing would not happen. And in fact, historically, before opioids were made hard to get, millions of people used them, you might say many of them were addicted - but overdoses were less frequent. It seems to me that much of the problem is our lawmakers, who have decided to make these drugs illegal to buy without a prescription, and our government regulatory agencies such as the Center for Disease Control, which has decided to make it hard for physicians to prescribe these drugs. Both have to be fixed, the laws and the CDC. We know, for example, from recent history, that if the CDC was not involved, but legal drugs were not available over the counter, then we'd have diversion of prescribed opioids to the illegal marketplace.

Michael (and Bruce), this morning I am getting ready to take one of my best friends to the airport to get him back to Hazelden for the 8th time. This discussion could not have come at a better time for me, as someone in recovery and as a long long time fan of the channel, it gave me some peace as I move forward with what is happening today, feeling helpless watching those you love struggle, is like watching someone you love being circled by sharks and there is nothing you can do about it. Michael- thank you for sharing your truth and your story, addiction is a family disease and it affects us all, but we do recover, and there is a beautiful life ahead. I am sending love, respect, and healing to everyone affected by addiction-- the opposite of addiction is connection, and there are people out there like me, just waiting to help in any way that we can. Love to you both and your family. You can't imagine how much you are helping people, keep up the good work.

After being in the shark tank for a long time, it’s easy to forget how to trust others. It literally doesn't, I went to college for psychology, specifically in mental health and addiction, whole I was addicted to percs and benzos. I learned every in and out of just about every drug, specifically opiates and benzos and did it even make me consider stopping knowing how it effected my brain? Nope, it had complete control over me, and I had a complete understanding of the negative effects. Addiction will put the strongest willed people to their knees once you feel withdrawing.

Out of every drug I kicked, benzos are miles above everything else. It's a special form of withdrawal, similar to alcohol where kicking cold turkey can put an end to your life. Good point! I remember reading that one of the reasons ODs are so common is that biochemically, the first high is always the strongest, and so people are constantly chasing that with ever increasing dosages, as the brain adapts. I feel like this fact isn't as well known as it should be!
@soilmanted
@soilmanted 10 дней назад
As a cancer patient who has access to legally prescribed opioids, I believe the opioids improve my quality of life, or at least reduce some of the painful consequences of having cancer. I know it is unwise to chase euphoria. I know it is best to use opioids only to reduce physical pain. I tend to believe that using them to reduce emotional pain requires larger and larger amounts, while using them for physical pain results in slower development of tolerance. So I try to exercise some care in regard to how much I am taking. I never chase euphoria.
@Steve-ev6vx
@Steve-ev6vx 10 дней назад
@@advena996as your tolerance increases, so does the threshold for a lethal dose. When you first start, lets say 70 mgs of oxi would be enough to kill you, after years of addiction, 200 mgs doesnt even get you high. That dose won't kill you if it isn't even getting you high. People OD because they are pushing the envolope even further and taking lets say 400 mgs, and drinking alchol and taking xanax on top of it.

I am an addict that's been in and out of recovery since 2004 and had never overdosed in my life until fentanyl got me in September of 2022 and I overdosed four times in one year. I'm coming up on one year of recovery and I'm very proud of that because every time I go back out it gets worse faster and I lose part of myself every time. You never think it's going to happen to you. There are so many options now to get help and there's always going to be a stigma but it's so much easier to get help than it was 15- 20 years ago.

As someone who has OD’d many times and gone through withdrawal many times. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. Having my oldest son saved my life. My children and my sobriety changed everything. Everyone deserves access to mental health services. Everyone deserves access to Narcan. Everyone deserves access to rehab facilities and everyone deserves access to MAT like suboxone and Methadone. We are a nation in absolute crisis when it comes to drugs. It is so incredibly tragic. The toll is truly insurmountable. No parent, no child, no friend, no family should have to watch their loved ones whither away into a husk or find them dead with a needle in their arm. If I could take away the pain and trauma I inflicted on my mother and my family I would I’m a heartbeat. I will never have that option though. All I can do is move forward each day and live an honest and good life by staying clean and being the best mother I can to my children. I count my blessings everyday.

❤ Michael addiction isn’t easy. Your story sounded a lot similar to mine. My best friend I grew up with has been at rock bottom for a while and doesn’t want help. We grew up playing call of duty together in elementary school, now he’s had on drugs. He has asked me to hold his tourniquet for him while he shoots up. I’ve seen him at his worse, he’s got a kid and everything and still doesn’t want help. His baby momma left him, he can’t get a license because he’s crashed so many cars. He smokes crack and he’s not even 30 and refuses any form of help. I’ve begged him to go to a meeting with me and he basically said don’t waste your time I’m just waiting on the bad news at this point.

I'm raising 2 kids because their parents both died of Fentanyl overdoses. I'm not sure what's harder? Being an addict or loving an addict? Addiction affects so many people. Rule #1 . Don't start! Jail or death is certain. Probably both. It's just a miserable life, masked by the illusion of fun or an escape from reality. It truly gets better, but Michael is 100% spot on. You've got to want it if you're an addict. It won't end well. That's a guarantee.

13:58 Totally agree Bruce! I have unfortunately done it all.. And those "blues" aka "perc 30s" that most news articles right now are saying, is what Rich Homie Quan took, are the worst thing I've ever had to try to get off of.. I lost everything, and I just can't fuckin believe that's the drug that a lot of people, and unfortunately even teenagers just "try" like at parties and with friends ... ugh so dangerous... you could die or you could end up spiraling because you become addicted, quickly.. I don't wanna keep rambling but, I wanted to share this .. I came across a video or article once, that explained that the people in Mexico will pretty much give them away because they have access to them, but they won't take them, themselves... I can't remember the exact name but they called them little devil, or blue devils or something like that, because of how terrible they are. And then, even personally, while in my addiction, I came across a couple people who came here from Mexico and sure enough, they won't touch those things. I think that says alot, the people making them, and bringing them here, will not take them 🤔 Cause they definitely did other things... but never those. Just something to think about! Anyway! Even though it was a different video than what you guys usually make, this was also a great video! 👏🏼

Thank you for talking about addiction. For about 15 years I as addicted to heroin and any other drug I couldn’t get my hands on (a garbage pail junkie if you will). I overdosed countless times, lost my apartment, lost friends, didn’t talk to my family, had no money and had to beg borrow and steal etc. I finally decided enough was enough and I’ve been clean for about 6 years now and have rebuilt my life. It’s just not worth it and with Fentanyl being everywhere it’s just so much more dangerous! Anybody thinking that they can’t get out of the cycle of addiction if I can do it then anybody can do it!!!

Some of us are fans. I was always a fan of Rich Homie Quan, so this was shocking and sad to me. Hard to explain, but it did bother me. If you’re not a big fan of the artist it wouldn’t bother you as much, I assume. But yes, I was worried about the spelling of his name. It’s his legacy. Just like when these news reporters in the 90’s called Tupac’s name sounding like pac-man. It bothered his fans. But I love this channel and Bruce Rivers. He’s fair. Loved this video.
