To Devein or Not to Devein. The decision to devein shrimp is basically a matter of personal preference and aesthetics, not hygiene, and the vein is not harmful to the human body if eaten. ... Most cooks will not bother deveining medium-sized or smaller shrimp unless they look particularly dirty. So, calm down people. Do it if you want or don't. I really don't care. Just know that you're already eating shrimp that isn't deveined in most restaurants anyway! 😎 Full Recipe: poormansgourmetkitchen.com/southern-fried-shrimp.html Pin it: www.pinterest.com/pin/391250286368097015/ PMGK app: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wPoorMansGourmetKitchen_7509520 Patreon: patreon.com/pmgk
Followed this recipe including the hot sauce mixed in with the egg. I added a bit of old Bay to the flour mixture and after the double batter I added a third layer of panko bread crumbs. Absolutely delightful.
My mom tried this recipe long time ago and we all loved it back then. Yesterday I told her to apply the same recipe and She couldn’t remember it so we sat down and searched the internet to find this video again and I am so happy we found it. I ordered Prawns and Shrimps this Morning and they have arrived as I type this comment. Now we’re gonna be making these. Thank you so much for this recipe. Love from Karachi, Pakistan❤️
PMGK, I just made this "Crispy Fried Shrimp - Southern style, it came out fantastic. I followed the recipe but made one change. After the egg wash, I added some corn meal to the flour, (for the double coat) it was superrrrrrrrrrrrb. Enjoyed very much and I will call it as "Rich Man's Gourmet Kitchen" because Shrimp is expensive. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
+startwinkle9 You're sure welcome. Glad you tried a twist. Corn meal is very popular on shrimp so it only makes sense to do it that way if that's what you like. Have you subscribed?
Watched this today. Made it this evening. Perfect and pretty easy. I used Buttermilk instead of milk and it was fabulous! Thanks. Subscribed and can't wait to try another. Kids want this once a week now.
I haven't been back home(Louisiana) in 20 years, and Married life, Work and what ever else life brought to me, I have lost that taste from when I was younger. I haven't been able to cook how I used to, I guess that's just part of growing up and moving on from your roots. Just bought a Beautiful home and for my Housewarming Gathering, I'm serving an all Southern Meal. Your Videos have helped tremendously on the flavors that i have missed when I try to make foods I used to eat. It's going to be great ,Thank you for your Videos !!!!!
+2008MrsKim You're sure welcome. I often wonder if my recipes are even really helping others, and I don't know unless others, like yourself, actually tell me. Sounds like you've got a wonderful history. I'm glad to know my videos will help you get back in touch with your roots!
i just made this recipe for dinner it was delicious & i already had all the ingredients in my kitchen🙌🏼😋, normally i jus make it using fish fry but i love this recipe its way more taster & it’s so much better definitely will be my go to recipe from now on thank you
Awesome but being that you're commenting on my fried shrimp recipe, you're saying you followed my Steamed Littleneck Clams recipe? I have several clam recipes posted and I'm not sure which one you're referring to...
Just made this last night with Jumbo shrimp. They were awesome. I left out the hot sauce and instead of using regular or buttermilk I used half and half. Going to put this in my recipe book. Thank You.
I will try this recipe because it's easy and looks delicious. When I used to fry chicken, I always double dipped it in flower. Shrimp is my favorite and I love coming up with different ways to cook it.
Tried your recipe and finished making them a few minutes ago. The whole family loves them! I was skeptical on the addition of hot sauce but wow that actually gives it a good kick. Thank you so much! 😊
I use a little tool that deveins it while partially peeling it. Then I pull the feed and the shell comes off and leaves the tail. Shrimp poop shoots are not good eating. But we eat the tails. If you cook them correctly, they are crispy like a chip.
+R.A. Bobby B To each their own. Thanks for watching and be sure to check out my new video, Beer Can Chicken. I just uploaded it a few minutes ago. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PsPuX7oGFmo.html
Love the simplicity of your recipes. Also, you have the most soothing, easy does it speaking voice. Reminds me of Sunday afternoons when I was a kid...back home in North Carolina. I miss it. Thanks for the reminder.
I've been there before. Knowledge makes a big difference with everything and this is one of my favorite shrimp recipes! If you like spicy, you should try this recipe out after you fry your shrimp: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l310Wnle0cY.html
+Terilei Iokua Glad you like it. You should check out the New video recipe I just uploaded, Beer Can Chicken! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PsPuX7oGFmo.html
I fry my chicken the exact same way so I don't see why I never thought of doing it with shrimp... lol... anyways thanks for sharing I enjoyed your video!☺
Great explanations of why you do what you do, and your show notes are superb (although it would be nice to see recipe amounts). You are helping me be a better cook.
John G Sorry, I was responded with voice text from my phone. poormansgourmetkitchen.com is what you'll be looking for. Thanks so much for tuning in and telling me what you think. If you ever have any questions, comments or concerns, feel free to contact me!
A friend offered to take me fishing from the shore. I've never fished salt water. He said, 'You buy the shrimp for bait, and I'll supply the tackle'. So, I went to the seafood shop and bought 5 pounds of fresh medium shrimp. The next day, I get up early all excited to go fish... and my friend calls and says he is sick and we cannot go. Now, I got 5 pounds of shrimp, and damn if I am going to waste it. So, I watch your video and start cleaning shrimp, excited about some fried shrimp for dinner. OMG! I will never complain about the price of a shrimp dinner at a restaurant again. That is a lot of work! I had to de-head and de-vein mine. Was yours already de-headed and de-veined? Mine was not. Its worth it though. That shrimp was good.
Made these last night and they were spectacular. VERY crispy. I followed Chef's guidance from another recipe (Mongolian Beef) and let the product "rest" after breading for about 5 minutes to help the breading stick. Next time I'll probably add some garlic powder to the breading, and cook the shrimp about 4 minutes as I like them a little under. But THANKS Chef for another winner dinner!
You're very welcome. My Mongolian Beef and Crispy Fried Shrimp are my 2 most popular recipes and I'm so glad that everyone is able to enjoy them. I don't waste time filming anything that isn't, simply, just the best. So I hope you're able to find more of your favorite recipes, here, on my channel and on my website. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment about them.
Looks very yummy. Will try it soon and let you know. By the way, are those raw shrimp or already cooked shrimp? Why can't we just get shrimp in a bag that are already shelled and deveined so we don't have to go thru the process of peeling them? Please let me know if they are raw or not? Thank you. P.S. you should be a disc jockey with that voice.
They are raw, just probably not used to what you're seeing. These are Wild Brown Shrimp, not farm raised. You can buy shelled and butterflied shrimp that's de-veined in frozen bags at most grocery stores.
@@PMGK Thanks for your quick reply. I will buy the raw, deveined with tail on at Walmart when I make this. They are darker than your shrimp are. I never heard of Wild Brown Shrimp. You should make some recipes in the Instant Pot too, if you haven't already. This is the first time I've seen one of your recipes.
By "Clean" you mean Devein? If so I already answered that in the comments below, but here you go anyway. www.myrecipes.com/how-to/cooking-questions/devein-shrimp-necessary
Greetings from across the pond. Just tried this fantastic recipe and had them for lunch whilst sitting under lockdown in our sunny back garden and they were amazing! Added some chilli flakes to the flour to give the batter some heat and wow! Thank you so much and stay safe 👍🏻
I never cooked shrimp like this, tried making some today... I used coconut oil, the shrimp turned out AMAIZING! Thank you very much for sharing, video is easy to follow;)
Your welcome and thank you for saying so. For future reference, everything I film is this way, otherwise it's not worth my time doing so. Hopefully you've subscribed. Not just for me, but for yourselves so you can get straight to no nonsense video recipes in half the time! Thx 4 Watching
