Personally, I hate digipaks and any type of cardboard packaging. I also don't care about slipcovers. The plastic cases are fine with me.

My biggest gripe with the case is that it's about 2 inches longer and 2 inches taller than their other releases so the spine sticks out when on the shelf and doesn't fit certain shelves from the height.

Cardboard pocket pouches totally suck. Just asking for the discs to get scratched. The similar pocket pouches are used for the Universal Classic Monsters collections. The pockets are really tight too. I cringe every time I take one of the discs out. 😬

Apparently it’s their first attempt at non plastic packaging an eco move by Criterion it’s come under criticism it’s also wider than a standard bluray. Mark Blamire designed it. It just won’t survive the postal service it’s too vulnerable.

Therefore, I will get the Blu Ray which is Scanavo edition!!

It's definitely form over function. Criterion always tries to do new things with their packages but can be a huge misses. My favorite Criterion digital-paks are Dazed & Confused and Dr. Strangelove.

I've had so many problems when ordering boxed sets from Amazon. As you mentioned, they're shipped in envelopes that offer no protection. Instead, I'll get on eBay and ask the seller to ship it in a box. I pay more, but it's worth it.

You might be able to contact criterion through their website and order a standard keepcase for trainspotting

By default, it's the original international audio track. Don't think the American edit is an option but there are 2 audio track options to play the original.

I love Trainspotting, but I won't pay 80$+ to import a release with such terrible packaging. I'll wait until Arrow Video or Second Sight produce their very own release and I'll import that instead when the times comes.

For an SRP of $50 it should have had packaging similar to do the right thing.

I'm surprised Criterion dropped the ball on this one, but man, Amazon, its not just that I will get movies with broken spindle teeth and sh*t, or warped inserts, but half of the vinyl records I order through them arrive with dented corners or some such thing. Its sad they don't respect collectors.

I hate this packaging. I ripped the tab on the back first time opening. It’s terrible packaging.

I pre-ordered from Amazon, and it had crunches in all the corners and was flat. I exchanged for another and was perfect.

Unless you sleeve the discs in those Japan spec disc sleeves, they will absolutely acquire more and more abrasive scratches each time they are removed/inserted back into the card slots. Total design fail here- Let’s hope they don’t try this again anytime soon. Any otherwise amazing release.

Immediately went on a search to find that I was not alone with this opinion. It's a title I'd absolutely buy when they upgrade to the normal packaging, but don't appreciate the flimsy version I have now that was warped when shrink-wrapped and then immediately worn out when opening/closing a few times. Not to mention - SLIDING the discs out of the sleeves immediately scratches. For shame, Criterion

Criterion packaging is always inconsistent. Even the digipaks with an outer slip are generally pretty flimsy. They should just stick with their standard clear plastic cases…

Trainspotting is one of my favourite films and so I pulled the trigger on an import seller on ebay to pre-order the title (I live in the UK if I import myself you get hit with a load of customs fees, just saved the headache of getting in touch and paying those). Really disappointed; disc sleeves for 4k (or any discs) are always terrible news, and that horrible cardboard catch at the back will be destroyed within a few opens. On top of that mine arrived with minor paint damage which I assume came from the conveyor belt. The transfer itself is good but honestly, I wish I'd just picked up a standard blu ray release for £6 now. I honestly thing Criterion should offer some kind of recall for these and return with a better case, it's that bad - though as I bought 3rd party I'd be screwed for this anyway.

I got mine and the 4k disc was damaged in a few places so I can’t watch the movie all the way through in this edition.

People have been complaining about Criterion for years and they dont care. This thin cardboard must be the cheapest way to package your discs... so stupid. All they need to do is use a plastic case like they use to. Eureka uses them, Indicator uses them and they have wonderful releases with no complaints as far as packaging goes.

Hate the packaging. Thought it would be the cardboard type like the other 4K style. Don’t know why they felt the need to do this. 👎🏻

They did a similar kind of digipack with Sex, Lies and Videotape but that was made of sturdier plastic.

Weird that criterion are skimping on the cardboard

The case is similar to the packaging from the Wong Kar-wai boxset they released a few years back, with the slot-in cardboard in the back. Disappointing!

Believe it or not, I've only got one criterion release and I've been collecting for years. And that's Menace II Society. The cardboard packaging on that was really bad and instantly put me off getting anything else by them.

I love the packaging. It´s eco Friendly, literally the only plastic in this edition are the disks. it also reminds me of vinyl record packaging. Who cares if the cardboard gets a little bit dented. What matters is the content. You´re going to enjoy the movie not the damn packaging. I collect movies, comic books, all kinds of stuff and i don´t get obsessed over the condition of things. Why does all have to be in pristine condition?

Mediabooks in general a fucking awful, everything that isn´t a nice sturdy 15mm regular amaray is just wrong.

Amazon packages are well shite...this reminds me of a gatefold vinyl lp

I actually like the packaging, I understand that it's a little finicky but i like the unique design.

The Godfather 4K trilogy horrible, packaging, cheap cardboard super thin

Too much nerd talk about packaging and not enough talk about the movie, the transfer, the sound etc.
