Crochet Ornament Base Pattern:
Crochet Hook: N/15/10MM
Yarn: need THREE strands, ca n be any size, weight, brand, type
Also need a stitch marker (scrap yarn or safety pin work great).
Also need 2 plastic bags or other stuffing.
NOTE: we are going to crochet three strands as if they are one strand for the entire ornament base.
Attach yarn to crochet hook using a Magic Circle (MC).
Row 1: CH 1 and place 10 SC inside the MC.
Row 2: Without joining Row 1, skipping the CH 1 and working in the 1st SC st, place 1 SC (mark this st with the st marker). In the next st, place 2 SC. Alternate between 1 & 2 SC st going around the row until you reach the st marker (pattern should start to spiral) (15 total st).
Row 3: Place 1 SC in each st in the row, marking the 1st of these stitches (15 total st).
Row 4: Place 1 SC in st 1& 2 (mark the 1st st), then 2 SC in st 3. *1 SC in st 1 & 2, 2 SC in st 3.* Repeat ** around the row (20 total SC st).
Row 5: Place 1 SC in each st in the row, marking the 1st of these stitches (20 total st).
Row 6: Place 1 SC in st 1& 2 (mark the 1st st), then SC 2together in st 3 & 4. *1 SC in st 1& 2, then SC 2together in st 3 & 4.* Repeat ** around the row (15 total st).
*Add stuffing at this point. It helps to round your bags and then stuff them to prevent lumping.*
Row 7: Place 1 SC in each st in the row, marking the 1st of these stitches (15 total st).
Row 8: Place 1 SC in st 1 (mark this st), then SC 2together in st 2 & 3. *1 SC in st 1, then SC 2together in st 2 & 3* Repeat ** around the row (10 total st).
Cut and tie off yarn, leaving an 8’’ tail.
Weave the tail in and out of the last row of st.
Tie off the weave.
Tie a loop, hiding the tails on the inside of the ornament.
Roll the ornament around like dough to ensure it is smooth.
