A few months ago, I did a video on the loop start. Someone asked about doing a loop start with one strand, and after a lot of time fiddling around, I've found a way to do a loop start with one strand that works.

Hey there! This video presents ideas and methods intended to help new and experienced stitchers find new methods of doing their craft. There is no right or wrong way to be creative or make art. If this works for you, I'm glad it helped! If you have questions, please ask! If you don't like this method, please move on. These comments are not a place to tell others what the "correct" way may or may not be.

Thank you so much! I'm about to start a large project of 1 strand on 25ct and this is a gamechanger for sure! You did an excellent job of explaining this and showing how it's done!

Thanks for sharing! I am working on a sampler that involves a 1-strand half-stitch background and was looking for a better way to start my thread. This is perfect!

Hi Milesy, thank you for this. It looks easy so I am going to have a go at it as I am currently working on a piece using single thread over 2 stitches on 28 count linen.

It's such a life changer. It's a little backwards from a typical loop start, but once you get the hang of it, it makes everything so much nicer!

1:46 That flip looks familiar. It's a Munter hitch! I take it you could capture the end under the thread on the back side to help keep it in place as well.

Very helpful. Can you show how this would work doing a straight line of blackwork where there is no stitching close by to anchor?
@anneballard6168
@anneballard6168 4 года назад
I’m trying to use this with blackwork, mostly straight backstitching, no cross stitches. I can’t seem to get it secure using a straight stitch over one. Any suggestions?

How about a loop start with two different colors? Many patterns today ask that two different color strands be used in the pattern. Thanks

I do this, however, my loop is at the back. The problem I encountered with this method is that the thread become uneven in length as you go along with your xstitch but I don't mind at all.
@MadXStitcher
@MadXStitcher 6 лет назад
That comes from the thread getting twisted on itself. Make sure to untwist the thread every few stitches, and it’ll stay even through the entire thing.
@justlilygrace
@justlilygrace 6 лет назад
MadXStitcher thanks. I will check on that but I don't it is twisted. When I loops at the back, it leaves a loose of the loop. Maybe I need to tighten up more.
