I was watching one of Joerg's videos on increasing weight of the Cobra Adder Target Bolts, to about 20 grams, using a piece of steel Nail and a piece of wood dowel, inserted into the Bolts to get that Bolt weight Up, they would be only for short range, but at a higher on target energy impact.
Actually the heavier bolt will maintain energy further, as the drag to weight ratio is lower. The heavier bolts will drop more of course, as they are slower to start with.
Thanks Paul, yeah will last longer all round and even stop so much wear and tear on the crossbow from virtually dry firing it with those really light weight bolts
Would pouring hot glue down the shaft or using water or using salt or sugar or plasticine/ putty be a good way to increase the arrow weight? These methods must be at least as good as brass inserts or better do you have any tricks?
Having watched Tod's vid on a similar subject, this went as I expected ( although Tod's bolts were even heavier ). At first, it seems a bit illogical doesn't it ? You'd think more speed = better penetration. But it looks like more weight = more impact, thus better penetration. Even though the bolt is moving slower. It would be interesting to see if this can be replicated with the smaller Pistol Crossbow bolts .
Cheers Zed, yeah even a few grams seems to make a different, and might make these crossbow last longer as the bolts are so light its like dry firering them in my opinion. I'll see what i can do in regards to doing this with pistol bolts, could quite easily add some weight to the gold alu / abs bolts i reckon, could even add some weigh to my broadhead bolt shafts too (and get a bit of advertising going at the same time lol)
I never did try the salt in the end mate, i was just sort of messing around with this originally, i wanted to add a bit of rigidity too them too as I've had a issue with the bolts being crushed by the string on the cobra adder and it might prevent that now as they are essentially solid now too. You still making these bolts cos if so I'll give you a link share if you are mate.
@@WeaponCollector i still have more than half the stuff here to make more and i still have a few bolts left selling them cheap to try and get some money back from the materials i bought 😁
