Good video mate. You should look into getting some sort of ballistics gel. Would be good for the tests. And would also be good for knife testing

Cheers mate, i do have some stuff to make ballistic gel type stuff, but as this was a bit of a spur of the moment video didn't have time to make it.

I was watching one of Joerg's videos on increasing weight of the Cobra Adder Target Bolts, to about 20 grams, using a piece of steel Nail and a piece of wood dowel, inserted into the Bolts to get that Bolt weight Up, they would be only for short range, but at a higher on target energy impact.

Good tips Gary, theres a lot of ways you can add weight to bolts, i use the old cut down abs bolts as i has loads and loads of broken ones.

Actually the heavier bolt will maintain energy further, as the drag to weight ratio is lower. The heavier bolts will drop more of course, as they are slower to start with.

Good idea tbf as it will make them much stronger & imo longer lasting. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼 cheers Paul

Thanks Paul, yeah will last longer all round and even stop so much wear and tear on the crossbow from virtually dry firing it with those really light weight bolts

Would pouring hot glue down the shaft or using water or using salt or sugar or plasticine/ putty be a good way to increase the arrow weight? These methods must be at least as good as brass inserts or better do you have any tricks?

Interesting 🤔, I'll need to try this.... 😂

Worth a go mate, cheap and easy to find materials and should make the crossbows parts last longer

Having watched Tod's vid on a similar subject, this went as I expected ( although Tod's bolts were even heavier ). At first, it seems a bit illogical doesn't it ? You'd think more speed = better penetration. But it looks like more weight = more impact, thus better penetration. Even though the bolt is moving slower. It would be interesting to see if this can be replicated with the smaller Pistol Crossbow bolts .

Cheers Zed, yeah even a few grams seems to make a different, and might make these crossbow last longer as the bolts are so light its like dry firering them in my opinion. I'll see what i can do in regards to doing this with pistol bolts, could quite easily add some weight to the gold alu / abs bolts i reckon, could even add some weigh to my broadhead bolt shafts too (and get a bit of advertising going at the same time lol)

@@WeaponCollector I reckon you'd get quite a few views for that vid. Add to that, you may well sell more Broadheads. Sounds like a win to me lol.

The heavier bolt will use more of the energy available, if it's too light the string doesn't do as much work as it could.

Did you try what i said before m8 fill them up with salt saves cutting up bolts 😁
@WeaponCollector
@WeaponCollector 3 года назад
I never did try the salt in the end mate, i was just sort of messing around with this originally, i wanted to add a bit of rigidity too them too as I've had a issue with the bolts being crushed by the string on the cobra adder and it might prevent that now as they are essentially solid now too. You still making these bolts cos if so I'll give you a link share if you are mate.

@@WeaponCollector i still have more than half the stuff here to make more and i still have a few bolts left selling them cheap to try and get some money back from the materials i bought 😁
@welshinu
@welshinu 3 года назад
@@WeaponCollector are my bolts crushing also by the string ? the original bolts for the adder may be using a cheaper carbon ?

@@welshinu never really had much issue with the ones you made mate.
