I was unexpectedly there that night outside of Sydney Opera House while visiting the harbour area with my baby and wife. I’m from the USA living in the Sydney area. I was shocked to hear this very sound as we were walking outside of the concert. One of my favorite songs from my teenage years. I didn’t even know that they were scheduled to be there that night. How fortunate that I heard them and this very song by rolling up on the concert by chance….never will forget this.
In 1990 Had been diagnosed with cancer and given a 10% chance of surviving. Went to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Tx. Finished Chemo and began Radiation. About the 3rd week of Radiation, I finished a treatment and was down and not feeling well. Walked out and got in my car. This song played on the radio. I listened to the words “Don’t believe it’s over”. They had a much stronger meaning that day and were inspirational. They still are 30 years later!
I'd be honored if some 80s fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal YT performances of SISTER CHRISTIAN by Night Ranger, AGAINST ALL ODDS by Phil Collins, and PURPLE RAIN by Prince in tribute to the era of legendary power ballads. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Peace and stay safe in the '020s.
Definitely. Queen always comes to mind for me. Freddie possessed his crowds. Noel gallaghers crowds do too especially for don't look back in anger. It's so amazing to see how a song brings people together. Such a great thing to see.
Robbie Williams is the best at having the crowd either sing along OR sing the key lines while he stands and smiles. See ANGELS at Knebworth or MY WAY at Albert Hall
As I've gotten older, everytime I hear this song, I can't help but to close my teary eyes and just feel the song move through my soul. How I miss when I was young in the 80's when I had best friends, awesome music, and great hair! 😄😁
I'm with you on this....I especially miss all my friends and the good times we shared dancing, partying together while listening to all this great music. Our partying usually just involved some beer, a bonfire, good music and just being together back in those days.
+JJ Amen to that. I've always thought that time is only a clock and a calendar; and as we grow older all we have left are a tangle of memories of what used to be. Sometimes I would give anything to go back and relive it all
This is for my friend Warren beautiful friend and hairdresser came from the same place as crowded house seen there first concert ever. Unfortenely my dear friend Warren passed away two weeks ago. Fly high lovely man❤
This song I can listen to it over and over I remember when their video first came out with this song. Had friends over listening MTV with all the 80’s songs having a beer and joints being passed around. The 80’s was an awesome era to live in sure do miss those days……….😊
2021, this is still the most beautiful song and live performance i have ever heard. In the 80s I was a punk ass skater and didnt get it. Now I get it, but I am not sure what it is except pure beauty.
I'm 63 years old....all 3 of my sons LOVE this great tune....it's awesome when music crosses generations! I love so much of the 80's rock but I grew up in the 60's...hey now!
80s were the greatest... fortunate to have grown up then... I will be 51 in two days... Been listening to Tears for Fears(back in the news) and even Billy Idol (Eyes Without a Face)...
Regardless of your age, mental state, circumstances music can put you exactly where you need to be. This is where I needed to be. Thank you Crowded House. Play On.
The 80's was the best decade for the styles of clothing and hair and the best of music. What we wore to coloring our hair with different colors has not stopped in the 80's still remains in 2021
Actually I do hear this beautiful classic on all 3 of my local 80’& today radio stations. A great song is like vintage wine; it only gets better with time.
The world should rise in unison and blast this song from every rooftop, window and basement cellar as a wall of defiance to the adversity facing the human spirit in this present age and time. If we don't fight back, we loose.
Just saw Fleetwood Mac tonight and Finn and Mike Campbell from The Heartbreakers are taking Lindsey Buckinghams place! They were great! Finn sings Buckingham better Buckingham.
Few bands can draw this crowd- even fewer after 30 years- but only crowded house can turn them into a beautiful amazing angelic choir that radiates hope and happiness , something we all desperately need. Just beautiful.
This song helped me get through Army basic training back in 1987. We weren't allowed to have cassette tapes during basic training. I brought a boat load of cassettes with me. During shakedown a Drill Sargent got into my face and said "you came here to jam, didn't you?" So, this was the song that I sang in my head to get me through basic training.
Funny how you can recall the songs you liked after so many years....I had a 2nd job in the evening and they used to play it on the local radio. My brother asked me what I wished to my bd and I answered "Crowded house". I still have the CD and listen to it sometimes, but I prefer the farewell version with all band members.
I was having the hardest day of my life, nothing good was happening. Only conflict. Then I found this by accident. The beauty of audience participation just blew my mind and turned my mood around. BEAUTIFUL !!!!!
Heard this song here and there over the years but never paid attention to the lyrics, just the feeling I got. Today I got it all. How profound that experiences such as this can enable us to so easily connect with each other to truth, beauty, and peace across time and space. A glimpse of eternity?
These superb 80s hits really remind you of how much time has passed you by. And then, you really have a hard one-on-one with yourself. You realize this music was and probably is the only sure thing in your life.
I went to Australia in the 80's and it's so sad what has become of that Continent, as well as here in America. Touching to see the Opera House and the Princess Bridge. I drove that up to Brisbane! I love how he kept having the audience repeat "they won't win", they were so naive, rightly so.
Amen brother, you can keep on saying that until the Lord RETURNS in POWER & Great Glory. I Believe that all are been SAVED IN THE PRECIOUS, MAGNIFICENT,HOLY, NAME OF CHRIST JESUS.
😍😍😍👍👍👍...What I love the most about this live performances ,they played original arrangement of the song, and sing it live perfectly better than studio recorded...Thumbs up.. 👍👍👍
i took songs like this for granted growing up in 80s thinking i'm too cool to listen to adult songs. Now I realized that the music that I mindlessly hum whenever it was on radio lives forever inside me.
Totally with you there. Born in 1980 and used to laugh at my parents and call them lame because of "their music." Now my daughter laughs at me because I bump 80s music on the regular. Full circle.
Fantastic when you can stop singing and your audience just carries on and couldn’t care less! Then you really know you’ve arrived! Brilliant! What a great band! 🇬🇧😆
gosh! feels like a life time ago. We were so young, nothing could stop us.. full of dreams and not a worry on our mind. Life was so simple. I am so grateful to be one of the 80ies kids! Knowing all those fantastic bands knowing all the lyrics -- makes feel so alive! I loved that song so much back in the days.. and I still do - AWESOME ☺️
[Verse 1] There is freedom within, there is freedom without Try to catch a deluge in a paper cup There's a battle ahead, many battles are lost But you'll never see the end of the road while you're traveling with me [Chorus] Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over Hey now, hey now, when the world comes in They come, they come to build a wall between us We know they won't win [Verse 2] Now I'm towing my car, there's a hole in the roof My possessions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof In the paper today, tales of war and of waste But you turn right over to the TV page [Chorus] Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over Hey now, hey now, when the world comes in They come, they come to build a wall between us We know they won't win [Verse 3] Now I'm walking again to the beat of a drum And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart Only shadows ahead, barely clearing the roof Get to know the feeling of liberation and release [Chorus] Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over Hey now, hey now, when the world comes in They come, they come to build a wall between us You know they won't win [Outro] Don't let them win Hey now, hey now Hey now, hey now Hey now, hey now Don't let them win They come, they come Don't let them win Hey now, hey now (yeah) Hey now, hey now
Don’t dispair... there are real musicians still out there and being born every second. Go out there and find them and give them the same chance these guys had.
Ive been playing this song over and over lately. I was a teenager in the 80s and loved this song, but love it more now. i truly appreciate Crowded House. They still got btw
Yes, he sings like that even now. This was an artist's musical group. Subtle, lyrics, feelings, participation. This is the magic of only the true great ones, Bravo, Crowded House. To the best!
