the game begins with the main character watching a mass shooting happening outside his apartment like its a extremely common event while he gets shit over the phone about being a loser with no skills and I knew i was on board immediately
I mean, it kinda fits though. Cause they have the tech to bring people back to life for only 500$. Death has no meaning, as long as you’re not poor. Why do you think you can repeat levels? You weren’t sent there to kill someone, you were sent there to punish them, so they ‘correct’ their behavior. Except they don’t learn anything, so you get the contract again… knowing they still won’t learn anything… So it’s understandable your character is depressed; nothing you do for a living matters.
Edit buttons not working for some reason so I’ll say it here: In the intro, I bet the only people who are running from the mass shooter are the ones too poor to actually afford to come back from death. The people just walking around got that change to spare, so it doesn’t matter to them. Wow, just pointing that out made me realize how shitty that world is. There are people running cause they can’t afford to die and the ones that can aren’t concerned. If what I said was true, the intro actually shows you a scene where not just your character, but rich people just causally watch as the poor die in mass.
@@my_cellium Wrought Flesh is kickass. It reminds me a goodly bit of Mortasheen, which also has a lot of biological abominations and biocrafting/bioconstructs.
Feels like there's a little bit of Postal 2 in there. Nihilistic, ugly, and indiscriminately violent against everyone. Hell, you can kick people in addition to the gross features.
Its stacks upon stacks of chunkopops. It is a common misconception that the walls are made of chunkopops, as there is a REAL wall behind those chunkopops, but I understand the confusion because who wouldnt a house made of chunkopops?
Cruelty Squad is Rainbow Six but you have consumed all the drugs. ALL the drugs. Special shoutout to the riot controller tear gas shotgun. It melts all flesh off the bones in a second and sounds like the screams of the damned. Hasn't really been used since the food riots in 20XX.
Game actually puts me in a great mood while playing it, other than the frustration of it running horribly on some maps. The sickness for me is only after playing the game for a while and I'm laying in bed trying to picture a map layout or just seeing endless boxy chaos-textured geometry when I close my eyes. Or just the horror of feeling that I now have a deeper understanding of why some people can commit capricious acts of violence.
I would like to mention that in your handler’s dialogue for one of the early missions, he notes that he had you dosed with an experimental combat cocktail which would definitely explain the visuals.
I don’t think it’s anti capitalist, I think it’s anti corruption for sure. It’s set in the future where technology is in a golden era, but quality of life is Compton levels.
@@yungpm the game seems to make very explicit criticism of the commodification of human life & how it dehumanizes us. that's pretty anticapitalist. also the dev has retweeted plenty of articles/reviews calling the game anticapitalist
@@dsyy90210 that's funny considering in his idealized society you can get fucking resurrections for free if you're poor enough. Seems to me to be an elaborate gag at your expense and you didn't get the joke
SPOILERS The true message of Cruelty Squad is about the philosophy that immortality is stupid and pointless. *The value of life is negative* because everybody is immortal in the world of Cruelty Squad. Restarting a level isn't like reversing time and starting again, you canonically killed those people and they returned to life by the time you restarted the level. It's true ending is about bringing death back into the cycle of life so that life has value and is truly worth living again. Death gives meaning to life as much as life gives meaning to death, if death cannot truly happen then life is pointless.
@@galvanizeddreamer2051 yeah he renamed it a couple devlogs ago, definitely a better name than Thouest Thee. not to say i didn’t like Thouest Thee of course
i love psychedelic weird postmodern shit like this (a lot of people dont like that last word sorry) if anyone has any recommendations for similar games hit me up
Here are some suggestions: -Space Funeral, OFF, Hylics, and Middens are RPGs that mostly fit the description. -Crypt Worlds is a first-person puzzle/adventure game with light platforming elements. There was supposed to be a sequel called Crypt Underworlds but it seems to be in development hell. -Mibibli's Quest is a 2D platformer that's a bit like Mega Man. It can also be brutally difficult at times. The creator also made Salad Fields as well as Sparkles & Gems which are more casual puzzle games that are still weird. -Soda Drinker Pro is great. Just trust me on this. It looks like a shitpost meant to dunk on low-quality simulation games, and it is, but you just gotta find the secret area in level 2. If you don't trust me then just look up Vivan Clark. -Revenge of the Sunfish is... indescribable. It's usually cited as being one of the original _"Psychadelic weird postmodern"_ types of games, at least in the context of modern (post 2000) internet culture. Really, just go on Itchio and search for games that are tagged as "Weird" or "Surreal" and you'll probably find a bunch of them. The site in general is great for that kind of stuff in general since it's focused on indie games.
I know this is an old video but I gotta say, I dislike some of your thoughts on certain subjects, but what is undeniable is your doing a great job working on your lisp, and your style is undeniably punk rock af. I'm glad I watched this. I loved the anti-sponsorship segment.
There I am just chilling out with a sinus headache watching RU-vid and see new video in my feed and click it... Oh no. And that comparison to the boot in Dark Messiah made me 5x more interested so thinks for the heads up on this game.
I’ve heard that Cruelty squad feels like it would have actual gore videos hidden in its files, but it’s more like its files were actually made from offal
I love being able to cook whole bodies with the flamethrower while i listen to the most horrific screams as innocent people run into each other causing a massive chain of fire and desolation Ah i love this game
I had my eye on this one for 2 years, was put off by the graphics. My first mission went like so: Hitman my way through vents like a pro, find pills on a desk... which invert gravity... somehow... Get stuck in the room because I can't jump high enough to get through the window now that I'm stuck on the ceiling ^-^
Ever since Vadim changed his channel away from using Creationist Cat I have been jonesing for a sentient cat fix. Oh thank god I found this channel. Just one more hit of sentient cat and ill quit for good, I swear.
Postal 4 did the latter type of Early Access except RWS hasn't forgotten about the game. We're up to Wednesday and its shaping up to be a decent immersive sim
