Like you’re telling me this entire cruise ship doesn’t have a single freezer? Maybe let go of a few ice creams in exchange people aren’t drinking decomposing body gas
You would think people involved with food service would understand that different refrigeration devices keep different temperatures. A freezer is not the same as a refrigerator is not the same as a chiller.
@@mzmi_a cooler is above freezing but below 41f a freezer is below freezing, less than 32f usually around 10f I believe. Or at least in food service. So they weren’t that far off by putting him in a cooler. Not saying they’re right!
@@rachelsiminski9717Water doesn't freeze until 32 degrees, and frozens should be ideally kept below 10. If your frozens were going up to 41, they were thawing and potentially unsafe
This sabbatical feels like the way RU-vid is supposed to work. When you feel inspired to make a video, make a video. When you dont, focus on your other stuff. Love the content Caitlin, cant wait to see what you come up with next time you feel inspired!
i 100% agree. us viewers do not NEED weekly uploads to keep watching. it's just the algorithm being a bitch and shit. discerning viewers already have caitlyn subbed and belled.
As long as the channel isn't how somebody makes their living they can do it that way. If it's the source of your income unfortunately the algorithm heavily favors regular uploads and all of those other BS that makes it very stressful and requires creators to pump stuff out continuously or they will lose their audience often permanently.
Right??? Every time I hear someone saying, sorry, couldn't do a vid last week, I'm like honey, I really don't care, make good vids not regular vids. Not that I'm not super grateful for this one!
Another reason I just cannot take a cruise. Thanks to you, I helped wipe down the body of my husband after his death (from cancer). I helped dress him at the funeral home. It brought me peace and I thank you for that.
I am so sorry for your loss. My husband passed away August 30th last year (also from cancer) and I did the very same thing! Though we were having him cremated, I wanted to be sure he looked good and clean for his journey out of the house. Myself and the hospice nurse cleaned him and dressed him and it was incredibly meaningful. I would never have done that without watching these videos and reading Caitlin's books.
Pretty much any boat does that if they don’t have a dedicated morgue. Only very large ships do, space is at a premium. If the main morgue isn’t working for some reason, it’s the freezer for uncle Bob.
As an oncology RN, I've had to take bodies to the hospital morgue. This is typically 36-39 F but a soda fridge is typically 38-42 F, which I know as I previously owned 6 cafés. Also, a body starts to decompose at the cellular level the moment he/she/they are dead. If a body has to be kept for a week then it needs to be embalmed immediately. As RNs, we had to get the body to the morgue asap, which was sometimes difficult when the family wanted to spend hours with their deceased loved one. Of course they would. Only human. But, the hospital would not allow a deceased person to remain in a room for longer than 12 hours. Things get real when you're a nurse. At the 6 hour mark (or earlier) I'd call our Chaplin service. They helped the families so much but also helped them understand that we could not keep their deceased in the room (at room temperature). It was always painful for the nurses when a patient died, but our duty to them extended to their families, and did not end when they died.
I had a problem at one hospital I worked at with people stealing my lunch out of the employee fridge. I made friends with the Pathology staff in the morgue, and they were fine with me leaving my lunch with them in the cooler.
Nurses are amazing. I was with my grandpa when he died. I went out to tell the nurses and when they came in, I was taken aback. They had to close his mouth and move him and they talked to him and called him by name as they did each thing..I’ll never ever forget the respect and consideration they showed in that moment. Ever.
I’m home from work today about to put my 12 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel down. His heart is failing and he’s really been suffering the past few days. It’s so hard. Sending love to you during your grief ❤
I have missed you Caitlin, I love you….Please come back…..Actually I’m a 71 year old fellow and you have helped to prepare me for a not too far off event in my life. Last part of my life. Anyway, thanks for all you have done to pull the curtain back to our last act, ps. I really do love you🥰
So glad you did the “no one’s asking” mummy dive. I do remember that story when it first came out. Completely fascinating! I also find the idea of Emotional Support Mummies far less offensive then the little untrained pocket dogs people drag around attempting to claim they are actually official Service Animals. At least Juan/Juanita isn’t pottying on the grocery store floor or trying to bite you as you pass in the aisleway.
So good to see you back and I really enjoyed the video. Thank you for doing what you do! This story is now another one of the many reasons I will never set foot on a Celebrity, or really any cruise ship in my lifetime. I can add decomposing corpses in coolers to fear of Norovirus and rough seas…
Lovely! Always a treat when you make videos. I appreciate the effort you put in to these. Glad you are making videos when you want instead of feeling forced
Interesting story about a small town in outback Australia where they filled their morgue with the Christmas supply of alcohol and when someone was sick in the town angel flight was called in to help. By the time he arrived he had passed. The hospital asked them to take the body and return it after Christmas angel flight thought that's weird. And looked into it only to find a supply of alcohol stored in the morgue. It's a story out of an angel flight book in Australia. Can find it for you if interested
My co-worker used to live in Alaska in a city that was a popular cruise port. He worked for that city and said that often they had to take possession of and help deal with bodies from cruise ships (either people that died on the ship or people that fell off the ship...apparently, it's more common than we think...and cruise ships have a special retrieval crew to go search for the bodies). Anyway, it's not something I had considered until hearing his stories.
Open coffin is a very bizarre custom, even though I myself come from a culture where this custom has been present for a long time. Fortunately, fewer and fewer families decide to do so, funerals are performed within a few days and there is no embalming.
Caitlin, when you return please cover the Hull UK SCANDAL between two funeral homes disrespecting their dead! It’s continuing to unravel and it’s insane. There are theories the funeral director faked his death and shit and moved. My family knows the family who owned the funeral home, though not the director himself, and this has been CRAZY.
because it's not mentioned: drinks are usually cooled at a temperature between 7 and 12°C. also as someone who worked in restaurants and currently retail, in the section that works with raw meat. all the alarm bells in my head just go off when I hear that the guy's corpse was stored above 2°C.
The only source of reference I have about storing bodies on a ship was admittedly a TV show: the episode of NCIS where Gibbs and Kate are on a submarine after a murder. Suddenly a crew member comes in and serves them gigantic dishes of multiple flavors of ice cream. Gibbs recognizes it has to be eaten quickly because they need to put the body...well... somewhere. So, the drink cooler was a terrible idea, but if the morgue HAD conked out, would the freezer have been an appropriate choice?
You inspire and comfort so many people. Your focus should be your Funeral Home. I wish you the best of luck in bringing peace and clarity to those that have lost a loved one. I have loved ones that the Funeral Director let me lower the coffin. As well as let me see the cremation oven because I was curious. Most recently I said goodbye to my cousin who was cremated, and the funeral staff waited until his Mother left before moving the coffin to the oven which was on site. They noticed how overwhelmed she was and waited out of respect.
Cruise ships are fricken nightmares. In addition to stories like this, they pump raw sewage straight into the ocean, which should be reason enough for none of us to ever go on a cruise. In addition, soooo many people have mysteriously gone missing on cruise ships and have never been found. I'm going to pass on ever going on a cruise. They're literal shit shows.
This is reason #436 why I am terrified of being stuck on a cruise ship. I would love a Caitlyn series about the realities of life, death, sickness, coverups, legal snafus, and mayhem that REALLY happens on cruise ships. Tosh.O called them floating toilets, and that’s my sentiment, too. 🤮
That must have been a bone-chilling experience for any guests who stumbled upon the spooky cocktail party in the beverage cooler! I bet they never expected to find a "chill" spot quite like that - talk about a party on ice!
I'm guessing the statement of a year ago - that documentaries would not set off RU-vid guidelines - means that we won't be getting any more in depth shows on RU-vid?
Hi Caitlin, I’ve been watching your videos for about 4 years now and I find them so comforting. I recently came across a new way of a sort of cremation called Promession while reading a book. I was wondering if you would share your thoughts on it as you have with water cremation. It sounds interesting to me.
I forgot why Caitlin went on a sabbatical. Was it because of the last health scare and all the funerals she performed, RU-vid changing what can and cannot be said or shown as a documentary, all the above and then some, or none of the above? I am glad to see some content back I do miss Caitlin's attitude on issues and how she reminds me that I see things through western Eyewear. 😊 Take care.
I've said it before, but it bears repeating. I am never ready to lay eyes on Paul. And I'm even less prepared to imagine him squeezing his way into a cavern like you described in 'From Here to Eternity' when I do see him. Also, I hope the Jones family wins this lawsuit. Or at least they get a good out-of-court compensation. A drinks cooler is fine for your mai tai ingredients but not for deceased loved ones, and if the morgue wasn't cooling for some reason, Mrs. Jones should have been told that to help her make an INFORMED decision.
I held my breath until I found out who it was because I had a family member die, of natural causes, on a cruise ship and there was a lot of drama because they sealed the room as a crime scene (after the body was removed) and the man's partner wasn't allowed access. I was wondering about the body storage on a cruise ship. Thanks for that info.
..... Flashback to running across a written procedure in the Ship's Manuals on how to prepare the reefer (food storage refrigerator - 34 degrees +/- 2 degrees) for storage of a cadaver and how to package the cadaver for storage for later transport to a military medical facility for autopsy. The story about what happened on a cruise ship didn't surprise me but I see as a failure for not informing all involved about what was going on. Someone such as the ship's medical officer or chief engineer should have known better or known enough to assign an underling to research the requirements.
Hey totally random but thanks for being one of the pivotal influences that made me decide to go back to school to become a mortician. The other influence is not so happy but for a RU-vid comment I’m not going to bring that up unless asked Keep making content because more transparency about the industry to the public is so important. I’ve bumped into many people irl who either support my decision or just think it’s creepy. I blame the latter due to a lack of education Anyway looking forward to your next video. You are genuinely entertaining and quite charming 😃
Given that so many have had a recent 'safe and effective' treatment followed by the incredible increase in sudden deaths, I think cruise ships are going to need to expand their on-board mortuaries!!
I have to say the mummy part of this video was by far the most interesting… no offense to the family of the deceased cruise ship dude. I just think it is fascinating what the living project on to the dead. Anyway that’s my vibe for this diatribe.
I am US food safety certified. Drink cooler ideal temperature is 44 degrees. Clearly not enough. If they needed to use a food cooler, they should had used the one for food, which ideal is 37 degrees. Also if it is one that has a freezer behind it, placing the body near the back would be about 33 degrees...guess they did not have a food safety certified officer on board or a working morgue.
My sister had converted to Judaism and died in Israel on a major holiday. She was not embalmed and it took 8 days for her body to reach our funeral home. The funeral director was polite, but he steadfastly insisted I could not see her to say goodbye after so long in natural decay. I still wish I had been allowed to make that decision, I would have said goodbye.
funny funeral stories would be a fun video! for me - at least i laughed lol idk how the others felt - but after my uncle's funeral, my family and I went to pick up the flowers they had stored in the back. Of course, they were also storing a ( empty and clean) stretcher in the back, and it wasn't removed before we came (we had called ahead, we didn't drop by). the employee was apologetic and tried to see if there was a discreet way to remove it, but had to pull it out of that almost-closet-like storage space right in front of us, and wheeled it past us. a bit of an innocently-shocking-wtf moment i found pretty funny. ah, when the universe won't let you fix your mistake in the polite, discrete way
Love seeing you, but like you (mine due to medical reasons) have been on sabbatical and I’ve been kinda hemming and hawing about making vids…. Although I miss it too! Love watching you!! Hope I’ll see more fun stuff soon! Take care!!
I feel so bad for Julio ): he and his familly must have valued Juanita a lot, for me having it stolen from them in such a way is extremelly disrespectfull
This dounds like the guy from ghe thirties dho was obsessed with this girl. He stole her corpse. He thought that he had invented a way to revive. Kinda crazy.
I love your delivery and insight. Everything you deliver I EAT IT UP. You’re such a gem. Thank you for blessing us with a video, YOUVE BEEN MISSED. 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷
