We went to Alaska twice , both times in July. The first time it was cold and raining, the second time it was in the 80's and 90's. Just never know bring some of everything.
We always bring either one warm outfit if it’s a warm region and one outfit cooler outfit for a cool area. Just to have it should the weather change unseasonably!
There is nothing funnier than people who “go on a cruise” and think that means beach attire irregardless of the destination! Seeing them disembark in their straw hats, Floridian gear with disbelief of the cold and wind makes my day every time. Nothing days “DOPE” better.
Oh my. Sad you have to say this! I'm always looking at weather no matter where I go! I do bring jackets in Caribbean because ships tend to be cold at night to me in common areas.
Don you are so right. Going to Alaska next week and joined the Facebook sailing group and Celebrity Edge group and 3 ppl on our group of lived in Alaska and from what ppl are bringing hat, scarves, gloves, raincoats or ponchos; saying layered is best so packing a little of everything.
When I was 17, I went from hot Philadelphia to hot Los Angeles. I took a side trip in August to San Francisco and at night, I nearly froze my you know what off. I had to buy a warm jacket which became a nice souvenir. I've never had that experience again. Lesson learned.
Reminds of a hiking holiday I once took near Vancouver and one of my companions did not leave the tent because it was raining. People have some odd expectations...
you know what's funny is that in the travel tips groups i'm in on facebook, the most popular question across the board is what's the weather like. but they don't ask for this week or next week. they're asking for over a month out to several months out!
Hi Don when myself and my wife mag’s went to Alaska last year we were at a glazier i can’t remember which one she was wearing a t shirt I was wearing a long sleeved shirt and the number of people who asked us if we were cold we told them no that we were from the north of Scotland and were used to the cold cheers Don
It is difficult when weather changes so fast! We went to California last year, to cruise, in March. Warm weather was predicted, by the time we flew there, they had cooler weather and I was freezing!
It’s so easy to check the weather 10 days ahead on your cell phone for every port you are visiting. There is no reason to not be prepared in this day and age. On warm weather cruises you still need a sweater or jacket for the air conditioning inside the ship.
The ship is cool. Bring layers. Alaska can be cold or hot. I thought I was use to the cold so I didn’t bring a sweatshirt. I was on a cruise that was Hawaii then Alaska.
This seems like a no brainer. You need to know the weather so you know what to pack. I struggle to believe that cruisers in the Med in the summers would really bring sweaters. Seriously?
I would probably bring one sweater, not expecting to wear it. The Dutch weather has just ingrained it too much that even the best weather can suddenly turn bad to the point that for my peace of mind I always have a sweater with me even if it makes no sense 😉
I'm having such a hard time trying to decide what to pack for a July Alaska vaycay. We're flying cross country and staying in California for a week prior, so will need **everything**.
When I go cruising no matter where I bring pants and a coat. Because your in mother nature's ocean and it can turn cold. No matter summer time way northern places are colder on average even in the summer time
Except when you are diverted to a different destination. Like when you got diverted to where was it Denmark when you had been on a Carribian or was it Mediterranean cruise
You said "you need to know weather in the timezone you are going". That refers to longitude. I think you should have said "to know the weather in the latitude you are going".
Common sense isn't all that common lately. When traveling we track the weather on a weather app. We adjust the packing list accordingly. It's not that hard.
I understand what you’re saying about appropriateness, but going the other way…. I’m tired of seeing peoples private parts because their clothes are mesh etc.
