I try the Czech Pirc in an unrated game against a player rated 1010, who plays very accurately and finds some incredible moves.

I think what I enjoy most about your videos is how well you let your losses teach you a lesson and show how humbling chess can be even for a player at your strength.

6:16 What a disgusting series of moves. That is probably the best I've ever seen from a 1000ish rated player.

White really knew this opening line which is one of the 3-4 best offenses against the Pirc for 6 moves or so and took that advantage into the middle game. Black did not have a robust understanding of the opening suffered for it, fumbled eventually due to an oversight and lost to a lower rated player. Happens all the time. Edit.. Old Gunfighter Saying “beware of the man with just one gun… he probably knows how to use it”. The Pirc is likely one of the few guns this guy has.

First time I’ve seen a 1000 play the Austrian attack, which is a solid play vs the Pirc! Some moves were engine-like, especially for a 1000. But assuming fair play, your opponent’s play showed tremendous insight. As for your play Mr Hunt … let me say you were humbled, just humbled, and we’ll leave it out! 😂

He he, quite right. I'm developing the ability to enjoy and to celebrate good play, whether it's my own or my opponent's. It's only a game, right? :D

e5 is the key

At what timestamp?

@Tilly2020 2 года назад
@@ChessBootCamp e5! should be played at 1:53. Your Qb6 wasted a move and weakened your position. The point of Qa5 is to pin the knight and support e5. (If Bd2 then Qc7 protecting the queen and maintaining support for e5).

Yeah I don’t think that it was the reason you lost since you maneuvered the queen so well but you have to get the pawn onto e5 in the Pirc and the KID. The Austrian is the best attack against it so can be tricky. The timing has to be right but you had the queen correctly protecting the 5 rank so advancing the pawn was winning material. I think c5 works as well. I’m learning these systems right now. Damn, though, your opponent found the right moves, playing like an experienced player who knows the Pirc and how to play against it.

I wouldn't describe your opponent's play as accurate. He sacked his bishop for a pawn when he likely could've saved it, trapped his rook till you fell into a tactic to get it out of there, hung a knight fork and didn't utilize the self pin you put yourself in when you blocked the rook attacking your queen with your knight and played Re1 instead of Rf1 (putting 3 attackers on the f7 pawn) which was so weird I'm almost convinced it was a mouse slip. In a game of who can outblunder who, you unfortunately won :) In the end game, you played Kg7 instead of Kf8 which was a critical blunder IMO. Tempo is everything and you gave him an extra one to get his king to his pawn on the 6th rank. It's lost anyway since he has 2 outside past pawns and you have none, but that would've been a better effort IMO. Thanks for sharing the game by the way. It's easy enough to share wins, but it takes character to show the losses and I appreciate that about your channel.

Thanks Alen. Hey, the guy's just over 1000 so we wouldn't expect top-drawer play. I ought to have done a bit better, but hats off to my opponent, he done me up good and proper.
@stag6161

Ah! Looks like b5 was the move instead of b6, Nd7 instead of d5 would've blocked the queen check and made space for the rook, those are the tricky little moves when you have to accept trades or the loss of a pawn, instead of trying to hold everything, you can't, nobody can I struggle with those moments too, I had a game in the Italian the other day, where qd8 and Bf5 were attacking d3 only guarded by my queen, so I played Bc2 from b3, going passive, in the analysis it instantly equalized the position from a 2 point advantage, I had this attack that I didn't see, Nf3 and Re1 were staring at e5 only guarded by Nc6 it led to a killer line for white but I missed it

@@stag6161 b5 could have just been taken by the bishop. The c-pawn can't retake because the queen is pinning it to the rook. You're right about Nd7 though!

I have mixed opinion about openings like the czech pirc, black lion, or hippo/hedgehog, modern setups because of their very passive nature of approaching the opening like what roman dzindzi have said in his soviet school of chess dvd. But then again the opening is quite solid and less theory heavy but my opinion is that beginner should learn the openings from the very first school of thought to the most recent as dzindzi has emphasize in his method of teaching and which is highly accepted by many coaches (kostya, David, even the coaches for the pogchamp event like Daniel, Levy, and Hikaru). But then again many people find different styles of studying the game which is highly acceptable and has brought them into high level but my opinion is for beginners to start as a Tarrascher and then move to become a hypermodernist at a later stage of their development. Also not saying that you're a beginner but i find it that in your videos you tend to swap off openings and cannot quite grasp the opening as a whole entire idea but using only one school of thought for persuing the position.

And also that game was so brutal (similar to some of my tactical games) and wow what a beating that was

Good points. I'm an average player who's muddling through and trying to figure things out, which I think is helpful for other players in a similar situation. We can all learn something from IMs, for sure, and I've learned a lot, but we can also learn pretty fast from observing someone who's a few hundred points higher rated than we are.
