Loved it, seeing the 47's and the GP30 slugs are not all cut up yet. A great spot to get photos of engines to paint up and weather. That caboose inside the fence would be cool to make up for the nit pickers here...lol Thanks Pappy.
Thanks Arty, so glad you enjoyed it, love when I go to these spots and see great locos that you thought were gone, and the caboose' es that I come across just lights me up. Sure do miss them
@@TriGogglin These types of spots are extremely rare now in my area, and parts of Sydney. Micro management in the government departments killed it. We had rail yards, storage yards and multiple maintenance facilities here. All gone once the micro management got into it, deregulated the rail industry, and brought in contractors. Many of the contractors that wont pay their bills and under cut way below affordable rates....
I work there, currently we are doing SD70 overhauls, GE overhauls and Unscheduled Engine change outs(It blew up), RM's on both EMD and GE's. Doing a Hybrid rebuild using a EMD platform with a GE engine. There is nothing that HHR can't do. We see all kinds of stuff, they even had to called back 8 electricians on furlough. I think it was for the Hybrid units.
Thanks Matt, yeah seems every time i show up somewhere its closed, I always have the worst timing, but at least I got to see what they had. Thanks for watching.
@@TriGogglin I've done the same thing. I now try to check on the Internet to see if they have a Site and try to check out Opening Times. But with Covid this doesnt even work all the time anymore.
Thanks for recording this Pappy. A heavy repair yard might be a good choice for that relatively inaccessible back corner of the layout and used just to store and display the locomotive collection, especially those that might have a few pieces missing. Loved the USDA car!
Very welcome Art, and thank for watching and all the ideas you come up with, thats not a bad idea if I don't get my original plan to work. I got some old dummy engines and an old dash 8 with no motor in it. And yes that USDA car was fantastic. Glad I seen it, cause never seen nothing like it befor.
Thanks Jason, most definitely got their hands full. Wish the weather was better when I went but at least I got some good stuff. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment.
The Western Maryland scenic rr has the this locomotives sister (1309) restored. They ran it for a few days last month for their "North Pole Express'" trains. Was lucky enough to get a couple of videos of it running. Truly a sight to see.
@@TriGogglin definitely check their Facebook page, I'm almost certain they have pictures and videos of it running. Hopefully you'll be able to come to Cumberland and check it out when they start running it routinely.
Huntington is named after Collis P. Huntington, a major investor of US railroads, C&O, Central Pacific, and Southern Pacific. He was one of the "Big 4" investors.
I love this kind of info, thank you. His statue was out front of the yard masters office, was getting ready to read the plaque on who he was and get a video, thats when the train showed up and I took off running to get it, and I forgot to go back, lol so thank you. Much appreciated.
There are definitely a lot of railroad scrap yards, but this one is a rebuild shop, their all just waiting to be worked on, in one format or another. I appreciate you watching and leaving me a comment. I do have another video similar to this that is kinda a scrap yard, I did 4 months back, take a look I think you'll like it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i6kUkwh1XPc.html
Lol Dwight, thank you, I actually did have some with me, you seen it in the recipe video I did, the 2 csx engines in the back when I held up the bag was this trip. Gotta make some more and head out again. Thanks for watching buddy.
Yes thats for sure, there were some spots I could not video. But I seen some in the back that were in different stages of repair, so yes got their work cut out for them, appreciate you watching thank you
@@Shield.148 lol figures, company's have the means to do things but don't, I once wrote a letter to menards and asked them to do Their train stuff in N scale they too said nope. Only O and HO
What an awesome spot Pappy, and wow what I wouldn’t give to have a tour of that shop! That Chessie System caboose was awesome! That C&O steam engine would be something to see in action. And Pappy can you imagine the amount of money CSX has sitting there with all them locos? WOW💰. Enjoyed this Pappy, thanks for sharing 👍🏼😁🇺🇸
Oh man you are not kidding. Heck I just want what one would cost, 🤣 so glad you enjoyed this video. I want a chessie or conrail caboose as a man cave.. 🤣
Thank you Ryan, and thanks for the hospitality, I had a great day in Huntington. I'll definitely make a return trip. Was still things I wanted to see, and thanks for the support.
That was a great video PAPPY! It's just amazing to see all those LOCOMOTIVES and wonder how much $$$$ was just sitting still lol. I saw a CSX MP15AC I'd like to put in my pole building when it's done being built! Thanks again for letting me know abt this video and for sharing them w us my friend!
@@mshum538 I remember that paint scheme. It was called the pumpkin scheme. It was used to identify Maintenance of Way (MoW) equipment. Usually locomotives. But occasionally other track equipment
Oh wow Kevin great info thank you. I'll have to do some digging. And yes had a great day in Huntington and the surrounding area. Stopped and had a ham and cheese at Tudors Biscuit world, was going to eat a cams hams but ran out of time. I think I hit every street that day. Weather was not the best, but thats not Huntington fault 😆
Nice viewing of all my favorites of diesels of CSX. One i noticed is an MP 15 I know it isn't an SW 1500! This is another favorite video of all these parked engines. I have scale models in HO scale of most of what i have watched well worth it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍👋👋👋👋👋
@@mshum538 Hi there. The MP 15 hood is slightly longer than the SW 1000 & 1500'S. On New York s Long Island Railroad had them in commuter service for many years before being replaced with new engines & commuter cars that reassigned them. I spotted one when I lived in Queens at that time doing freight & other maintenance of way duties. I know MILWAUKEE ROAD had them until SOO LINE took over & were orange & black, with black paint patch up with SOO LINE logo. ATHEARN in HO scale had them years earlier. My surprise spotting them on this video on CSX.
@@haroldalexis4200 I lived less than a 1/4 mi. From the Port Jefferson, L.I.R.R. terminal, and got to see them every day. I was so disappointed NO company ever deemed it worth their time to make it in an N scale version. Saw them in the Grey, blue, and white colors, and a bunch of years later, in a Forest Green, with the New York and Atlantic, Freight Scheme. Oh Yeah, the MP, stood for the company, Motive Power, 15,was 1500hp., and the ac., and dc., versions had radiator intakes, on the Nose end, or the Left and Right sides, but I don't remember which version had which.
Isn’t always fun to Ho to place that people want you to support just to have it closed? I don’t understand why everyone things attractions should be closed on the weekends when people can get out but open during the week when nobody can get there. Good video nice job of catching things.
Lol steve, I complain to the wife about that constantly, its either closed for the winter or open Monday thru Friday thats most peoples work schedule. Yes it should be open sat sun, and closed m- f lol and yes then they want a donation. So I can look thru the fence.🤣 anyway ..... thanks for watching very glad you enjoyed it.
I spent lots of time around the C&O in my birth city of Huntington in the 1960s especially while attending Marshall University. I have written a number of blogs about Huntington on my website.
You would definitely be the man for the job on that Matt, so glad you watched, we'd all be interested in knowing. That would make a great video for you. Thank you for watching.
Thanks Jerry, while in Huntington WV I only caught the one, but on the way there I caught an NS coal drag in Ironton OH, and on the way home the one on the viaduct in kenova WV. But I was just happy cruising that yard and see what I could find. It was a great day, thanks for watching my friend.
Thank you, and oh that question, um I have no idea, couldn't begin to guess, you couldn't see it in the video but there's more on the other side of the bridge i was on and more towards the shop area. I'm not from there so I can't even ask any one who might know. I do apologize for the lack of info was just trying to show what I could. Maybe some one will see this comment and give us an answer. Thank you for watching.
Thank you Terry, first time I had seen one, I have recently caught another one that the word was still fully there, it's a great looking hopper.. I appreciate you watching..
Looks like CSX has as many spare engines as does Larry's Truck and Electric (LTEX)! Is the rail business so slow that they don't need all those engines on the road?
I'm not sure of the state of affairs these days but, I figured all the DPUs they run with bigger trains now definitely probably put a need to download some inventory.
I'm not sure, it looks like it is a slug but I couldn't really tell. Hopefully someone else will see the comment and be able to answer. Appreciate you watching
@@TriGogglin I head from NC to Michigan a few times a year, and my route takes me somewhat close to Huntington... (I usually use rt 35 from the interstate up to Ohio, then go diagonally to western Michigan... I will have to see about stopping there, and then going cross country up to 35....
This is the Squaw Creek (I agree...) that had the most obvious rail connection. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squaw_Creek_Southern_Railroad Now, looking forward to this, as H'ton is where I was born...
