How to print this:
After you click the link, click the image again to make it real big on the screen. Now you should right click it, and select 'save as,' making sure that it is saving as a .png extension. If it has .jpeg after the title, it won't look as nice when you print it. Once you save the file to your computer, simply open it up and select 'print with' Windows Photo Viewer.
** N64 ** Nintendo 64 ***
Remember, the thing being made here is the video. Let's think like a video-maker for a moment.
The featured trinket takes very little time to make when it is compared to the video itself. There are actually three logos being used for the making of this film, and the finished piece isn't even shown here, because as I type this, it still isn't done yet. The final version is the one shown during the woodworking scenes, and right up through the blue paint scene. After that, I am showing the second prototype, which was finished (painted) very quickly, so that I could shoot the end of the video. The final reveal shows a blotchy finished logo, which I regret is the price of reducing the production time of this video.
So what did I cut with the chainsaw, and why? It was the original (first) prototype, which was made using proportions that more closely approximated the official logo. This version was taller than it was wide, and so it was not a convincing reproduction when viewed IRL. I tried to use distraction to keep you from noticing this; there is little chance that you could be aware of such minutia while a loud dramatic event unfolds in only a few seconds. But nevertheless, it was a lousy copy. You see, the official logo is a multiple-point perspective drawing, so it is inconsistent and unreliable for use with deriving precise measurements. It just didn't look right after I reproduced it as accurately as possible, so I chopped off some of the height from each side, but then the yellow parts were no longer squares. As a perfectionist, I found this condition to be insufficient, and further, I could not tolerate this inferior product's existence in my garage. So I used the opportunity to make a scene that would recreate a certain reference that, if you are asking "why," you didn't get.
Sorry if you didn't get it because it was obscure. But you know what? That's what makes you feel clever whenever the shoe is on the other foot, and you get it, while all of those other dumbasses are asking, "why the hell did he..."

I'm once again impressed by the effort you pour into each of your projects. It almost seems that you would like to make more than the three you have, and continue to perfect the process if you could. Glad the sound problem is solved now. As for math stuff, it usually doesn't frustrate me. I like to think of every new problem as a puzzle to solve. In fact, I can get completely lost in trying to understand a problem for days. That's one of the dangerous things about theory.
@adamborg1
@adamborg1 9 лет назад
pocket83 I can see that, but it becomes frustrating when you don't have the knowledge to solve a problem and you are way in over your head. That has happened to me a few times. Working on a math problem for a long period of time just to realise that you can't finish it is just so discouraging.

Brilliant annotation @ 3.28. Thank you for those words about math teachers having no edit facility when going live. I was a math lecturer and used to ask my students to please tell me if they spotted a mistake on the board because it's as easy to misplace a number or point in math as misspell a word or neglect a comma in English (I hoped it might also keep their attention hoping to spot a mistake) Thankfully, I only tripped up once in 30 years but I was really glad that someone spotted it because people will write down and learn mistakes. Great video, so unlike some really bizarre, but highly entertaining ones, I picked up on recently. Best Wishes, Brendan.

"...I could not tolerate this inferior product's existence..." Man, how many times have I felt this exact same way. Good build though. I work for a company whose name is abbreviated to three letters. I have thought about making something like this so that from the front you see the three letters, but from the side, you see just the first letter. The Discovery Channel had a "D" logo at one time that was like that (the same as the N64 "N"). I think it would be cool decoration for our booths at conferences and such.
@cpu64
@cpu64 7 лет назад
I think the reason why the protractor test failed is because the view (camera angle) used to get the rendered image of the logo is not perfectly isometric like in the paper. Also, it can be made in 8 small parts without crunching any numbers. :)

pocket83 I certainly wouldn't be opposed to seeing some more of those, to be honest. Sarcasm aside, I found them a refreshing alternative to the "used car dealership commercial" style reviews that seem to be popular with the 12 year old youtubers.
@pocket83
@pocket83 9 лет назад
XombyCraft I thought they were funny as hell, personally. I really got some hate for that, though. I lost several hundred subs, and the comments and messages (many of them shared privately) were just soul-crushingly unsupportive. But I _really_ don't like allowing them to influence me, so I may do it again. I'll even change the channel art back and everything. I'm wearing an evil smile right now;) Let's consider the "be yourself" cliché for a moment: Seriously, I really don't want to conform to viewer expectation, because that always results in the same garbage content- but I can really feel the pressure as more views and comments pour in. My Dad used to bitch to me, "you're just like my Dad: whenever someone tells you to do something, you do the exact opposite!" He's so right, and I openly admit to having a severely flawed personality. But this is still _my_ forum I'm running here, so delusional or not, we play by my rules. Anything less would be dishonest, right?
@Xomby
@Xomby 9 лет назад
pocket83 Agreed. "Be yourself" really shouldn't be considered a cliché, as the term "cliché" carries negative connotations, therefore it's unconsciously processed as an insult. I enjoy your videos not only because the content is interesting to me, but also because I never know what to expect. Sure I can probably "expect' something to do with woodworking, and "maybe" something to do with math... But the subtleties keep you riveted to the video and not wandering to the three or four other things vying for your attention. Also, the "boundaries" as it were of your channel have yet to be defined. Go to most other channels and you pretty much know exactly what will be coming up next after watching only a video or two, and there's very little to deter one from that notion. Sure, some channels throw in a vBlog occasionally to try to spruce it up, and I'm surprised at how many channel owners actually set up a SEPARATE channel for such things... Personally, I find that to be annoying, given YT's currently horrendous method of channel organization and tracking. But they inevitably are back to the same old same old... Eventually one reaches a saturation point and one's brain no longer sends the same "reward" signals, so you move on to something else. I've been following your channel since I stumbled upon one of your vids, and I'm pretty sure I've seen them all, publicly posted or not... And given that, I can comfortably say that your "style" as it were, is more of an acquired taste compared to the powdered drink mentality that runs amok on today's YT.

I once designed the house of Flash on a house plan. I gave the house many 45 degree angles and gave it a lighting bolt shape with Flash's logo in the middle. Then I wanted to make the house tilted like if Flash just ran past it making the house slant towards the direction he was running. When I put it on paper it looked good and doable. Then when I tried to build the model, well lets say I just had to make the house straight.

It gets even more complicated. Read the description- the damned thing is actually a perspective drawing. It has very distant (and multiple) vanishing points. But my work with it is done; as I have already stated, anything can be put on paper, so I see no reason to pursue it further, with respect to its being made into a physical object.
