48RE Automatic transmission out of a 2003 ram 3500 with a 5.9 Cummins turbo diesel..
Customer states no reverse! My first instinct is that the overdrive direct clutches have failed and in this video you will see for yourself why there's no reverse.. This clutch pack normally fails when people are repeatedly pushing a heavy load in reverse uphill if possible always try to use four wheel low and gain the extra gear ratio and relieve stress on the transmission!!
47re and 48re transmissions are all but a identical..

Man you put a smile on my face watching this today. My dad was a diesel mechanic and head of fleet maintenance at Wonder Bread for 34yrs. Your attention to detail and the way you disassembled everything reminded me of him. He was a true perfectionist and his knowledge of tools and detail was so similar to you Olee. He could tear down a Detroit Diesel series 60 and rebuild it with his eyes closed. He passed away this past December 2022 and watching this video brought back some good memories of my Pops, thanks my friend! Loved the video and look forward to more. 🤙

if the overdrive direct was burnt would that mean that the truck had no forward as well ? or no

I have a question. Hopefully you can answer it for me. I have an 06 2500 4wd. And the extension housing was leaking. So I removed it cause I thought the housing was cracked. Couldn’t find any cracks in it. So I figured it was a bad gasket. So I bought a new gasket and the rear piston came out when I removed the housing. I thought I got it back in correctly. Trans worked perfectly fine other than the leak before I removed the housing. Now I have no reverse. I can fill it go in and it acted like it wanted to back up. But nothing. So I killed it removed the driveshaft and checked it and it would turn when I put it in gear. I have only ran it about 5 minutes in the shop hasn’t left the shop since I removed the housing today, Did I not get the pistion in right or what do you think happened? .

I didn’t disassemble the housing. Just cleaned up the outside of it. To see how bad the crack was. And didn’t find any cracks in it what so ever. So I just replaced the gasket and put it back together. Still have a leak as well the right lower bolt is leaking though the threads apparently. Just barely is seeping. So that’s where my leak was to begin with. Just my luck. Any info would be greatly appreciated. As to what to do now. TY. Hope to hear back from you. The transmission only has about 30k on a full rebuild. The warranty ran out before I got the truck..

Is it full of fluid? If not, it will not pull.

Yes sir I checked it and put 2.5qts in it after I got it all back together.. I was hoping you would say that I didn’t get the rear piston in correctly. Didn’t know it would come out when I removed the OD housing.
