really though, this game is so much fun to fuck around in. I just kept playing it, doing whatever the fuck I wanted, and found one day I had 100% it. Then I started it all over just for the hell of it
2 was better. The game world of 3 was kind of dumb. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but the world was basically a massive skatepark, didn’t feel like a real place. Skate 2s world was very natural while still being really enjoyable to skate. One thing I will give skate 3 over 2 is the insane custom maps. Overall though 2 was definitely the better game in my opinion. God I miss skate. Every other game on earth has been remastered except the skate series and that’s a travesty.
Skate 3 is one of those games that can’t be recreated because developers have gotten better. It was the perfect mesh of great skating and terrible coding that made that game so good. I still play it now and then.
Developers have gotten better in some areas and gotten worse in others. Size optimization and general perofomance optimization are often lacking in newer titles that work fine most of the time. It's kinda sad that the bugs that made games even more fun to play have been replaced by ones that make the game sometimes impossible to play.
@@VNitrofrey I don't fault devs for size optimization. Games are expected to look like real life while running smooth and crisp. And also be extremely jam packed with content. File size is incredibly hard with those constraints.
@Jon Valler What do you expect? It's 2021, at this point kids born in 2008 are old enough to sign up for most services like RU-vid and Discord and whatnot. Regardless I feel pretty sad whenever I realize 2010 was 11 years ago, as I always think of it in my head as 4/5 years ago at most.
@Jon Valler I was born in 98 and to me 2006 was ages ago. Hell, 2011 was a hell of a long time ago, I remember events from that year as a kid and idk, I guess it just depends on the person and how you look at life and what not. But you are right, looking at things as a whole even a human lifetime isn’t that much time.
Especially on hard-core mode. It made nailing every trick that much greater. It's really hard without the magnet to rails and extra pop you get on the easier modes.
@@demographic1573 just let’s you know how sad their lives are, waiting for a public figure to pass just so they comment on a video about an 11 year game, just for the hopes to get someone riled up
I remember watching Jacksepticeye play this like 6-8 years ago and trying to contain my laughter in the middle of the night, the effect absolutely has not changed
To answer your question Charlie, yes, there is still an active fanbase. i actually was playing skate 3 about 30 minutes before you uploaded this video which is a major coincidence.
Just realizing how insane the sound design is for the time. There’s a clip where he’s walking next to a wall with the board in his hands. There’s a second where the wheels make contact with the wall and you actually hear the wheel sound effect.
God I miss the days of trying to figure out everything there is to do in this game. I hope Charlie keeps playing old school games. Really love that on the channel. And 7:11 maybe the greatest moment in skate history.
I think skate2 was far better in that aspect. Sure, on skate 3 you can just lower the difficulty setting to make the physics more "realistic", but something always felt off about skate3. maybe it's the lack of any delay intervals between tricks? on easiest difficulty you can do something called "tricklining" or "tricking", and it's just the most unimmersive stuff ever. on harder difficulties you can still do similar things, so it's still not exactly immersive. totally ruins the feel of the game, especially in competitive modes. unlike skate2 where if my memory serves me right, the optimal way to do trick combos was to do constant manuals followed by any hard trick, which makes far more sense for a game than the spasming that professional gameplay of skate3 entails...
Skate 2 is the ultimate masterpiece to me, that game feels much more alive with the spirit of its time and skate culture, but Skate 3 is a really great game. It definitely feels the best to play, but the soundtrack, city, story, and vibes of Skate 2 had more going on, in my eyes. Plus, there were some wild glitches and exploits you could use in that game that got patched out of 3, even if 3 still has some great jank.
I was going to comment this! I always remember skate 2 being my fav. My buddies and I loved hos you could get tazed, the npcs, glitches, etc. Game just felt more chaotic
I’ve spent uncountable hours splaying all of the Skate games. They got exponentially better for each game. Skate was great, Skate 2 two was amazing and Skate 3 took it way beyond awesome.
I remember my old friend played this alot back on 360 he passed away and now when ever I get on I see his skate ghost shredding and so I join in and it feels like he's still there rip Kap 🥲
I literally never stopped playing skate 3 I just be waiting for skate 4 patiently finding the weirdest lines in the game but the soundtrack never gets old
@@FerventRebutter i agree, disorder is a really amazing song. kinda sad that i was way younger when i played skate 3, i didnt know about disorder or joy division yet lol
The last time I played, I accidentally misspelled my first character's name and thought it was so funny that I did that with the rest of the characters that show up later in the game. From then on, everyone had a one letter typo in their name.
pretty sure charlie was switching pressing a and x depending on whether he was riding switch or not. He pushes with his front foot riding switch because it looks like mongo pushing even though it's different. Mongo pushing isn't necessarily bad, it's just associated with noobs even though it can be useful for nollie tricks just like riding switch is useful for fakie tricks
Man i loved this game as a kid. I still remember the homie at Game Stop who said it had 16+ age rating due to the difficulty, not due to the random violence you can indulge in. The memories🥰
I remember buying batman arkham asylum at GameStop and I was like eight. The homie said "oh don't worry about the age it's just for difficulty" I never did beat killer Crocs lair till three years later 🤣.
I remember getting Mirrors edge when I was like 12, and the dude at gamestop was just like "Nah its just cause of the difficulty buddy" One of the better EA games I've played, still play it form tike to time
Gonna forever miss the times of making friends in the S.K.A.T.E sessions, last ones I met and played with haven't been online for 7+ years and looking at their avatars collecting dust is a horrible sight.. Just imagining the day where they all pop on again
I miss playing this back when my parents wouldn't buy me a skateboard. I named my skater Oatmeal and he was in a group called Egg Salad. I wouldn't even advance the missions I just wanted to skate around town and run into people lmao. Crazy how this game is such a classic all these years later
Just recently started playing through this game again and its just a good game to play and chill out. Nice break from all the stroke inducing shooters.
Been playing Skate 3 off and on since it came out, I love it so much; hope we hear from the devs of 4 more than the two times a year where they pop their heads out to say, “we are, in fact, making Skate 4”.
I bought an X360 just to play Skate 3 and NHL 11. Skate 3 is a game that I played with my kid when he was young. We had our own live accounts and x360 so we could skate together in multiplayer even though he was just in the other room. We played a lot and he was very into creating cool parks for me to try when I got home. So I have a deep emotional connection to the game as a thing my kid and I spent time together enjoying and bonding over. It was also a multiplayer community that I felt ok letting a little kid play. He used to spend hours making perfect videos to show off to mom, who was more impressed with the creativity than the stunts on screen. I scoured Steam for a game with the same control layout. Skate XL has a mode but it doesn't work with my controller. If Steam had Skate 3 today- it'd be one of the most active communities on the platform.
that joy division music in the backround hits hard. I was named after the lead singer, and remember hearing joy division come from my fathers room before he got locked up. :(
I’m home sick and all the wipeouts are making me laugh so hard my chest is hurting even worse 😂 thank you for this masterpiece it’s worth the pain lmao
The fact that I remember when skate 3 was popular on RU-vid and I vividly remember pewdiepie played it, Charles you are seriously the grease Jesus himself, absolute genius
Skate 3 is my personal favorite skateboarding game ever (thus far), as well as one of the discs that spent massive amounts of time housed within my PS3. I have a very similar approach to my play style as Charlie. Essentially, I constantly attempt to pull the craziest tricks I can think of, and I go in 100% at all times. Thanks for making this video man, this brings back a lot of memories.
The sound it makes when a game crashes is the most terrifying thing ever, im genuinely scared of that sound.. i hear it and assume everything i have done on the game is going to get wiped.. It happened to me when i was like 8, all i played was lego marvel and it all got currupt because of a crash
@@JoNotReally Honestly, my eyes lit up when I heard Joy division playing at the start, nice to still hear games that put that type of on the soundtrack.
I remember playing this with some friends and having so much fun back in the day, time flies so fast! I'm looking forward to Skate 4, maybe they will launch it soon.
Im not. After how garbage EA has been as a company im almost 1000% certain Skate 4 will be stuffed with trash Microtransactions, skate passes (battle pass) and probably loot boxes. I have no faith that Skate 4 will be even 1/100th the game that Skate 3 or Skate 2 were.
