This is quite surprising. Are Americans taught that the US involvement in World War II was to save the Jews? That is a radically different take to the one we have in the UK.
@account2871

We're actually taught that the US wanted to stay out of any wars until Japan bombed Pearl Harbor
@teutoncross3817
@teutoncross3817 3 года назад
You’re both right. We’re not taught much about the war itself in the US. The subject is usually “WW2 & the holocaust” with a heavy, of not complete, emphasis on the holocaust. That’s why many students end up with the idea that the US was forced into the war by japan to save the Jews.
@johnnymatias3027
@johnnymatias3027 3 года назад
@@teutoncross3817 i think that's a decent way to describe it. The focus was always more on the holocaust and rarely on the events surrounding it. But to my knowledge I was never taught that's why we fought. I learned early on, and perhaps internalized more than my peers because I'd been interested in WWII from an early age, that we found out about the holocaust after it happened. The political class was well aware of the fact, but it was never a primary motivation. The motivation was geopolitical.
@teutoncross3817
@teutoncross3817 3 года назад
Johnny Matias even from a geopolitical perspective they brush past it. Any explication as to the reasons Japan attacked the US? No. Any explanation as to why Great Britain declared war on only Germany and not the USSR during the invasion of Poland? No. Any reference to the effects of the Versailles treaty on the German people? Not once.

What? The estate pulled the books voluntarily, making themselves the heroes of this story. Conservatives will buy out the remaining books that will be out of print and progressives will not feel guilty giving their money to a "woke" publisher. It's a marketing stunt money can't buy.

My junior yearn history class is when we talked about WW2 the most. And I am grateful that I had the teacher that I had. He was very based. he told us the real reasons why the US got involved in WW2, and the reason that the Japanese bombed pearl harbor. From what I've seen, in order to really understand what caused WW2, you need to go back and see why WW1 happened and the aftermath of it. The Germans were winning WW1, but then, out of no where, there is a peace treaty signed. And that peace treaty completely neutered Germany for no reason at all. My teacher actually talked about all of the shady business that went on during those two eras. Which is ultimately what lead to WW2. I think if you look at WW2 objectively, it's actually very hard to tell who were really the good guys or bad guys. It's not black and white at all, it's very grey.
@percyblok6014
@percyblok6014 2 года назад
Heavy war reparations and the utter gutting of Germany post WWI was huge impact that gave rise to WWII. My 8th grade history teacher consistently taught this. He was a fluent German speaker. He lived in Germany for a couple of years. I was withdrawn from the US public school system after 4th grade.

If you look at WW1, the sides are more “clear cut”. By normal and conventional post-1789 “modern” metrics, contexts, parameters, et al….. WW2 was a fkin mess and unfortunately SOME of the bad guys won.

Most, if not all, Yarvin's arguments amount to an appeal to authority--himself. If you'll count the number of times he'll ask whoever's interviewing him "Have you read this (insert name of incredibly obscure history book here)?" you quickly realize he talks interminably without ever really saying anything more substantial than "This guy makes this argument, and this other guy makes this other argument" ad infinitum until you want to ask what argument HE makes, to which, of course he simply will be reminded of an amusing anecdote and talk about THAT for 10 minutes. Of course he's uber-smart, but he defeats all attempts to discover whether he's made proper sense of anything he's read--only that he's read it.

Then if you’re interested in his message you can read his work... in which there are no “uh” or “um” noises... and get the precisely articulated arguments this man makes. Although if you can’t listen to a person speak like that for ten minutes, I’m skeptical that you’d be able to read anything like a political treatise.
