Finally I’m building myself a new truck. It’s been almost 2 years, so this build has been long awaited. I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to take you guys behind the scenes while I break down the ins and outs of building a custom cage.
As far as measurements and dimensions, no I won't be giving out info. This is just to show you guys the build process.

THIS is why schools need vocational programs! Even if the students are more interested in "trivial" things like remote control..... Even if Cyconxc didn't pick his skills up in a class (he may or may not have, I'm not sure, just impressed)........ This is where passion can lead you. Hands down the coolest and most realistic RC truck I have ever seen!!!

Great work!!! I am 70% way through a (for look only) 1/10 scale Ibex Crawler frame with aluminum body panels, however I have used 6mm copper pipe and brazed it all :( I wish you posted this 3 weeks ago :) I didn't even think solid round bar :( and up until now i also didn't think an arc welder would have been much use for something as small as we are doing!!! Again amazing work really contemplating a need to make another frame like this!

I know I’m late to seeing this but my son and I have been getting into rc and having a blast I’ve always wondered if you could fabricate your own rc as a fabricator for a living it was only natural to think that lol anyway great video now I have a whole new rabbit hole to dive in. Hey not sure if you’ve discovered this yet but a skill saw with a regular framing blade cuts aluminum like butter I use a cutoff wheel only when I have too plus the dust is bad for u

I know this video is old and I hope you see this comment. You're a much better RC builder than I am, but I'm a mechanic, and I will tell you how to make your truck better. I used to do suspension as a mechanic for an off-road race team. I also used to race RC cars and bikes. I've watched this entire series of videos more than once, and that is an incredible truck; no doubt, but I'll tell you where you messed up. In this series of videos, I see your left front wheel snap off twice on landings, and I'll tell you why, if you don't already know. Your weight is not evenly distributed. I'm not sure why you have the battery in the back, first of all. It is heavy and should be mounted as low and as central as possible. Granted, put some protection under it to prevent possible punctures, but that is your biggest coin in this game and you chose to mount it in the rear. This is why even sitting still, with the dual shocks it sits heavy on the rear. You have no weight upfront. You would do better, at this weight, even having a ballast on the front to keep it down. You're a superior RC guy and I get that. You probably sold that truck for a couple grand. Respect. But this is coming from a suspension guy: Did you not notice that in every jump the rear end lands first? That puts what I'm assuming is around 14 pounds directly on the front end as it transfers when it lands. This is what keeps snapping off the front wheel. It lands on the rear, because that's where the weight is, and then all of that transfers to the front, with no mitigation, and crashes down, snapping the hub, or axle, idk, I only watched the vids. You're obviously more superior than I in the RC game. But that battery, the most dense and heavy part of the vehicle, needs to be as low and centrally located as possible, and yet you chose to put it in the back. You're a great welder. You're a great RC guy, but you're a shit mechanic. Learn about suspension geometry and weight distribution, get back to me, and we can make a killer RC truck. Or don't. Them's the breaks, as they say.
@johndoe920
@johndoe920 2 года назад
honestly? You're half right. On a RWD truck you want a lot of weight on the rear wheels for traction. And also to keep the solid axle suspension from making your truck flip over forwards on every jump. There's a reason the spare wheels are always mounted pretty far back. And in an RC truck with all the electrics mounted in the middle of the chassis you'd be stuck with mounting the battery above all that which would make it hard to access with the cage, or try and move the ESC and such somewhere up above the motor and try and get a dual battery setup going with one battery on each side of the motor, but that wouldn't solve the access issue. In this case I'm pretty sure the wheels snapping off could've been fixed by not using these flimsy plastic wheels and instead use metal beadlocks.
