When budget allows, I like to use Duetsch connectors. They are waterproof, can be had in single conductor all the way up to 140 IIRC (most I've used was 48). There are different pin sizes for different current needs. They can also be anchored using available tabs.This can make for a single plug for multiple circuits and not have to worry about polarities or wrong channels when removing and re-installing something later. Much like you did, only a little more elegant IMO.

Your video's are great! Worked in a shop back in late 80's and now and working on a project of my own. After a long break your videos have helped get me up to speed. Building these A-pillar for PS165 FX3 (mid and tweet) this weekend. As a note, I was originally going to go with the same Illusion speakers you used (they are in my hometown of Camarillo!), but trying to source them turned out to be a b****! Really don't understand in today's world why they make it so difficult to obtain? In any event, thanks for these videos...tremendously helpful!

This is fantastically clean work Mark, I'm very impressed mate. It makes me want to do the same with my tweeters that currently live in the door, only problem is I was born with 10 thumbs and I'm not the most practical bloke in the world lol. I am going to try my first ported box soon though. I built a sealed box and other than carpeting it (it wasn't great) it turned out ok and was miles better than the el cheapo prefab I had before so I'm quietly confident. I've run some numbers through WinISD and it looks encouraging but we'll see...😉

I really like this project. Very clean and I'll bet is sounds awesome. I know you were working with pretty small screws, so it wouldn't make much difference in your application, but a center punch like that isn't a good tool if you're marking through a hole that is larger than the center punch. There are punches designed to center in a hole and then you deploy a pin to make the "punch". that way it will be perfectly centered. Just a note for others who may be in a different situation.

I am surprised Mark that you used a tap on the acrylic. I figured you would want to use something else to screw the speaker in given you did you quick connects suggesting a quick swap if you ever want to try a new product. The pillars also looks great with the Mid/Tweet setup. I wonder if you would try something unique like Bang & Olufsen?

Mark, Did you ever make a follow up video to this one demoing the Illusion audio speakers? I don't see it anywhere. F or sound deadening material, have you thought about using "flex seal", specially on such areas like the back of those trim pieces? I think it can be applied better, specially in and around the bracing pieces inside the trims.

Normally you suggest threaded inserts (or threaded rivets in some cases) but here you're using a tap. Do they not offer inserts in a small enough size to use here (or something we should consider when fabricating A pillars leaving enough room to include?)? You've definitely made me a firm believer in the insert/rivet idea for removal/maintenance aspect and it was the first thing I thought of when watching you tap your mounting rings.
@CarAudioFabrication

Orin Chenard you can, but when you add sound pressure levels from the subwoofer which is mounted to that tapped thread in wood, it will eventually start leaking air

I got a Jbl CX-62SI pair of speakers. The rms of these speakers is 70 watt and peak output is 280 watt. Is this 70 watt means these both speakers have a combined rms of 70 watt(means each speaker has a rms of 35 watt) or the single speaker has a rms of 70 watt?
@JoeIsCrazyWillman
@JoeIsCrazyWillman 5 лет назад
70W each (unless the packaging says otherwise, but from my small amount of experience, usually that's only the much cheaper brand speakers (the kind you never hear of, like Pyramid, etc) that label for a pair just to catch your eye more.

Hi Mark, i just saw your video how to do a subwoofer box with just a jigsaw, there's just one thing.... i can't find mdf, can i do the box with triplay, that sheet of 3 thin layer of wood glued together ? 🤔
@MaverickandStuff
@MaverickandStuff 6 лет назад
Most big box hardware stores should carry mdf. Plywood can work well but triply most of the time is too thin. Unless you need to make your box custom, you can find premade ones for near the same price as the material needed to make your own.
@rigof.5307
@rigof.5307 6 лет назад
Maverick Wagner I know, i've been asking around every hardware stores here and no one have mdf, and i need a custom box for my tacoma single cab, the ones that are already made on internet are waaay too expensive for me and the ones at the local stores are for normal subs, so, i need to make a custom box that fits into the little space behind the bench seat, the only good thing is that i have a 8" shallow sub, i mean, it's not gonna be a huge box, it only need .5 cubic ft of internal volume.

I know this question isn't really relating to the video but how can I know or tell if a subwoofer will pick up high bass notes and not just the low ones? I have some skar 10s 400rms in my vehicle and they pick up a good range but not the low end bass. My brother has a skar 8 900rms and that one hits hard but it's almost none existent on high bass. Any help from anyone would be helpful.

Hey mark what if I’m using 1/2 inch MDF rings for my mid range A pillars. What can I use to screw in? Self taping screws, threaded inserts with hex, or knife threaded inserts or just rivet nuts ?
@mikeconlon3748
@mikeconlon3748 5 месяцев назад
You shouldn’t be changing them out often so just use wood screws with a nice machined head if they are exposed. If you do end up removing them enough to chew up the MDF, you can switch to threaded inserts at that time. If you think you’ll removed them A lot then just start with the inserts. Also, if you have MDF rings it wouldn’t be difficult to use a flushing router to make a copy out of some thicker plastic or acrylic
