❤❤❤❤❤you have inspired me to customize my own Blythe. I have 9-10 I can customize. I was thinking of buying some heads to practice on. All of my Blythe, accept the one customized Blythe I bought from Etsy (Russian artist); I have bought them off AliExpress. Bought them expecting to customize them right away....then life happens. And I fell in love with them as is. As they are cute! Have you ever done boy Bythe dolls? I have 5, I'd like to see that❤👍

Hi Beth , she's looking fab!! I got my Blythe , now I need the rotary tool and bits .. which ones are you using? Can't wait to see the next video. Ben
@BethRamsden
@BethRamsden 4 года назад
Thank you so much! Oh that's brilliant!! Mine is an 'Einhell Bavaria BSG 40', pretty old and not sure if they're still available - I would recommend something fairly lightweight like that, which looks comfortable to hold, but definitely a plug-in rather than battery powered tool. They seem to come with a decent assortment of bits, but I also used quite a few 'diamond drill bits' by Sodial that were pretty cheap and a nice variety of shapes too. Hope to see your Blythe someday too! Thanks again!

@BethRamsden
@BethRamsden 2 года назад
Thanks for watching 😊 I would say roughly 2-3 days for the sculpting and face up, but of course a professional might do it quicker, and a more elaborate design could take longer! Then there’s re-rooting or wig making on top of that if needed. Hope it helps!

So I gave it a go... Lol but I messed up biggg time!! My rotery tool was too strong i think..... because on the lowest setting it took huge chunks out lol her face. I got the same bits you use :) just need to get a new tool... May i ask what you use? Mine seems more strong for wood work maybe? But it was fun practicing lol you can see my mess up on my page, i did a short clip of it. Her lips are gone 😂😂😂😂💖 but hey...we gotta start somewhere right??? 😂😂😂😂😳
@BethRamsden
@BethRamsden 3 года назад
Hiya! I watched your video, I don't think you did too bad at all! I have seen people do faces using only hand tools (like a scalpel), which might be something you can practice? I do think the hardest thing to master with these faces is a light touch. Less is more and I Still need to learn to refine my sanding at the end, smoothing everything properly before I do the face-up. My rotary tool unfortunately isn't manufactured any more, but it's a full on power tool like you describe yours, pretty hefty! Keep practicing (you can buy the face plates on their own to practice on) and you'll find your groove!! ;)

i have 9 blythe dolls bought of alliexpress and i always wanted a costumized one, since they arent the cheapest to buy already custom i really want to try it myself but i am just not creaitive enough. mine dont have shiny faces but matt faces and some of them have open mouths already, will that be a problem?
@BethRamsden
@BethRamsden Год назад
Ooh lovely! No the matt ones aren't any harder to customise, especially if you're sanding all the face anyway. I have no experience with the already opened mouth ones, so I can't say, but if it were me I wouldn't change that mouth type, I'd stick to the closed mouth ones to start with. Hope you give it a try sometime, it can be a lot of fun ^_^

@maddy-ff3im Год назад
hi!! quick question :) when do you know that you’ve sanded the blythe face enough?💞
@BethRamsden
@BethRamsden Год назад
Hi, do you mean after you’ve been carving? If so, you’ll need lots of light, and you’ll just have to look closely and make sure that it’s very smooth. As any kind of scratches or roughness are going to catch pigment when you add colour later. You might consider a magnifying glass if you don’t trust your own eyesight (I need my reading glasses to scrutinise them with 😆👀) Hope that helps! ✨☺️✨

@@BethRamsden one more question! I apologize. I’m going to start customizing my first blythe doll soon and I just want to make sure that I’m doing it correctly :)💞 When it comes to sanding the face before doing any makeup etc, you started with 120, then went to 240, and finished it off with 600? It’s my first time sanding ever so I’m a little nervous😭
@BethRamsden
@BethRamsden Год назад
At the time those were all the sandpaper types that I had, but since then I have found much higher (softer/gentler) grits, as well as buying these very fine sponge backed sheets by 3M, I’ll link an example here : www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224143563572?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=oMMNsPhYR26&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=WE2grQ9tRAe&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY These are the best I have found yet to use on the face, and I found some on AliExpress to buy as well ☺️

Hi there! I buy these dolls on AliExpress, usually from the seller ‘Blythe Homes’ 😊
@BethRamsden
@BethRamsden 3 года назад
@Altoid Bazingá I have seen these very very cheap ones there too, the type of plastic used on the faceplates will differ in quality though. Genuine Blythe faceplates are the easiest to carve and sand as they use the highest quality materials. The very cheap ones are more difficult to customise as they are made from a more dense and brittle plastic, It’s not impossible though! They are all a good budget way to start learning how to customise 😁
