Void City Customization
Episode 33
Custom "CW" Kingdom Come Superman Action Figure (McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse) (as portrayed by Brandon Routh, in the CW 'CRISIS' Cross-over TV Event)
In this episode, Dan goes over how he created a custom McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Superman action figure from the CW TV Cross-over event, "Crisis." This version of Superman was based on his "Kingdom Come" appearance and storyline, but was also a continuation of the "Superman Returns" universe. As such, Brandon Routh returned to portray the character, despite also playing The Atom on the CW show "Legends of Tomorrow," which was one of the cross-over shows (along with "Arrow," "The Flash," "Black Lightning," "Supergirl," "Batwoman," "Smallville," and several others as well.

You can use any cape you want, that's just the one I used. With a little patience, no figure is unfindable, and you don't always have to pay a ton either.

It is, and I would recommend anyone else do it with a different one like a rebirth or even Red sun or something else whatever. but I had several extra bodies lying around. And wasn't going to be using them for anything. They were missing emblems and arms and hands and feet.... So why not? I've always hated the underpants on the outside look anyways. 😂

@@KevinBirtcher that's also true. But that's not what I did. Anyone else is free to make it however they would like to. Personally, I had no need for the shorts, and felt it would have less chance of breaking than a sculpted one or of apoxy. I guess I could have just cut out a small plastic circle from anywhere, but it wouldn't have the edge on it.... Oh well.

I noticed while editing, that under that bright light and on camera, the skin tone doesn't match as well as I thought it did under the naked eye. Next time I am painting a face on a figure (quite soon), I will probably paint the full neck on this one to match the face color.

i think the infected superman is a better paint match for the trunks
@VoidCityReviews
@VoidCityReviews Год назад
Infected Superman's trunks are a different size and would not fit this figure. They are also dark maroon in color, not burgundy. Burgundy is the color that the red was in Superman Returns at least, according to the extra features about the costume's design and creation. That's not the color it was on the kingdom come suit, though. My blue is too dark, but my red matches the TV show.

Looks great! Couldnt you have just swapped trunks instead of cutting the belt?
@VoidCityReviews
@VoidCityReviews 7 месяцев назад
Sure you could. But at the time, they were all Rebirth or AC 1000, and did not fit the Page Puncher body correctly very well. I have literally a TON of extra pieces, parts.... So for this one, it wasn't hard to sacrifice the part to get the round buckle to complete the look.
@rickwj324
@rickwj324 7 месяцев назад
@@VoidCityReviews Gotcha! I've swapped out S Symbols from one figure to another (doing a custom Bizarro) and that wasn't very hard. How hard was it to trim the chest cavity out to make the KC Shield fit the buck?
@VoidCityReviews
@VoidCityReviews 7 месяцев назад
@@rickwj324 it wasn't terribly difficult, but there are definitely things you can do to set yourself up for it to be a lot easier. Definitely have the hot water ready to keep re-dunking the chest in so that it stays soft and pliable. I also used a brand new X-Acto blade. You always want to make sure you have a fresh sharp blade for big cutting jobs like this because cutting through this plastic makes blades dull pretty quickly. that's another reason why the hot water helps. You just have to be slow with your cuts and be patient, because it is easy to cut too far and then you might have some divots or cuts that are visible that you don't want to be. I just traced the new emblem with pencil so that the marks could rub off around the outside and then I basically just carved outwards from the center of the original slot, until I got to those edges, testing the fit along the way so I didn't cut too much.

Custom Superman Christopher Reeve Mcfarlane DC Ultiverse

Someday, I MIGHT do a Christopher Reeve... I DO have an unpainted Reeve head here.... I nice vidoe I just started doing this sorta I painted the hair of my hal Jordan parallax bc you know it was totally wrong color and I had a good time. I collect (Superman only) DC multiverse figures I just got eradicator and noticed the legs have where you would think tip the the boots that a lot of Superman legs have well eradicator don't were boots so it's just weird that they don't take the time to sculpt original legs for this figure. What would you do there? Should I send it down or find different legs? I'm going to make eradicator look like the original 93 eradicator instead of ...whatever this is lol
@VoidCityReviews
@VoidCityReviews Год назад
This version is from the New 52/Rebirth modern era. there was a lot more emphasis on the fact that he was an artificial life form, and not actually like a clone or twin of Superman in any way. I don't believe the comic version had the lines for the boots either, but a lot of companies reuse parts for different action figures, it's nothing new. take a look at the new Teen Titans wave. Like three of them are just the Superboy Jonathan Kent body reused. Nightwing and small beast boy and parts of arsenal are all just a reworked Superboy body with a different chest piece and head. It's one way to keep prices down. Anyway, if the leg is how I think it is, I would probably just sand it down myself. probably do most of the work with an exacto blade first and then just sand it down once it got close. And then repaint it. I haven't actually taken mine out of the box yet so I'm not quite sure if there is a split there or not. Is there a split where it's attached together? Or is it just sculpted onto the leg itself like past Superman legs?
@stephenelliott7669
@stephenelliott7669 Год назад
@@VoidCityReviews there is no split I don't think of I'm looking at it right and understand what you mean the legs look just like rebirth Superman legs with the like w looking think at the top of the boot.yeah I thought sanding it down would be best thank you! Eradicator is my favorite character it's a toss up between him and Superman that's why I like the old one. Yeah I know the new one is more based on like a Kryptonian AI or something.im not all that impressed with this figure I don't like the cape how it don't go all the way to the emblem.i want to go all out on this thing to make it look like 93 eradicator just not sure on how to go about it. I have a ton of Gundam models that's like my thing so when I did the parallax head it got my attention on doing some custom stuff. Thanks for the tips.

@@VoidCityReviews and another question when painting the body how do you do yours brush or airbrush?
@VoidCityReviews
@VoidCityReviews Год назад
@@stephenelliott7669 it really all depends on what you aredoing and what your skill level is and how comfortable you feel with it. Personally I don't have an airbrush myself, and I always use brushes. Toast however has just recently started using an airbrush for some of his, so again it all just depends on what you were going for and what supplies you have.
@VoidCityReviews
@VoidCityReviews Год назад
@@stephenelliott7669 what I will say is that you will have a far easier time customizing the gold label eradicator figure into a 1993 eradicator than I did customizing this Omega Batman into the 1993 eradicator. If you use the current action figure it will be far more accurate. You won't have to paint as much, and matching up the cape and the emblem will be a lot easier.

@@VoidCityReviews McFarlane does great work but it’s either too much paint or too little (and not a lot of accessories/effects)
@VoidCityReviews
@VoidCityReviews Год назад
@@Michaelengelmann there are some reasons for both the paint application, and the accessories lack... He's put out videos about it in the past... A great deal of it comes from needing it to come out to a certain price, and they have to be a specific sized package as well. Retailers set those standards, at least in this case, sounds like. So they have to optimize where they can, and sometimes that means less paint or accessories. that could probably be turned around, but it would make the figures a lot like they used to be in the early 2000s, a lot more like figurines with very little to no articulation, but still beautiful to look at.

The reason why mcfarlane doesn't use flesh tone joints at the wrist with superman is because doing so makes the circular joint painfully obviouse and it throws off the realism as it sort of elongates the arm looking like he can't fit his sleeves.
