That was WD-40, but honestly any smooth oil will help you out; it's just about removing friction

The city I used to live in had a glass factory. It was called MGM Glass.

I can't find quarter inch non tempered glass. Can we even buy it any more? Home Depot is useless in it's search (thinks glass is plastic). And others seem to only be in the luxury market or, of course, auto glass.

Is that a glass cutter? If so, isn't that what it's designed to do? I've been looking up how to cut a mirror without a glass cutter and everything I find is misleading. When I saw the title about cutting glass with basic tools, I was under the impression it would be something like a KFC spork, 7 Q-tips, and Sawzall.... not actually a tool designed to "cut glass".

I'm having hardest time just trying to cut a window
@thelionandchampion2644
@thelionandchampion2644 6 лет назад
Would two one inch panes of glass in my window at home distort the view outside? Or is the visibility the same as thinner glass?
@miketroncin749
@miketroncin749 6 лет назад
Think of a dining room table or a coffee table where the glass is the actual horizontal surface... that's 1/2, 5/8, or 3/4,,, rarely do you ever see 1"thick glass and cutting it might be tricky why do you want one inch glass for your room?
@thelionandchampion2644
@thelionandchampion2644 6 лет назад
Soundproofing. I have spent hours studying soundproofing to keep out horrible loud muffler noise. Thickness or mass is what has to be done and the doors and windows are the weakest point.
@miketroncin749
@miketroncin749 6 лет назад
The Lion and Champion Have you looked into mutlti-thickness laminates, Especially with a sloped airspace between sheets of lami?
@thelionandchampion2644
@thelionandchampion2644 6 лет назад
No I haven't but I have e been told the thicker the glass is loss of clarity.
@miketroncin749
@miketroncin749 5 лет назад
The Lion and Champion Quality made 1" glass should have VERY little loss in clarity. As I said, if you look at all glass dining room tables, which are typically 1/2 to 3/4" thick. There is no discernable loss of clarity. Look Into 9/16" impact laminated glass. It should have similar sound transmission qualities, but is much more reasonably priced.it is composed of a 1/4" sheet of glass, a 1/16" interlayer and another 1/4" sheet of glass. The different thicknesses and materials scramble the sound wave and dampen its transmission. It is clear as regular glass and is "reasonably " priced

So... "basic tools" means a GLASS CUTTER. And here I thought you were going to save me a trip to the hardware store.

Joe Vannucci I have yet to be able to cut glass with a hammer, pliers or screwdriver. I could show you how to cut it with a spark plug, but your head would explode
@joevannucci1392

Me neither. I would have just got a glass cutter. But your title suggests that there's some technique I overlooked. That's all.

That is great because when I try I end up with a squiggly line that goes off to a different location and usually end up with three or four pieces. 3/16 glass I can cut with no problem 1/8 inch no problem quarter inch no good

This comment might be understandable if you are actually mentally retarded. If not, you’re an idiot. Cutting glass is notoriously tricky. Cutting glass. This thick with a cheap tool done in 30 seconds is very impressive. Show us something that you can do that is equally “AMAZING.” I’ll check out your channel! I bet you’re amazing.
@RainCastle7
@RainCastle7 5 лет назад
how much pressure do you use?
@miketroncin749
@miketroncin749 5 лет назад
The way to determine a cutter's correct pressure, take a scrap piece of glass 24 inches or so, and start drawing the cutter down the straight edge, steadily increasing pressure until you begin to hear a sound similar to tearing tissue. When this starts, maintain that pressure during the entire length of your. Tap and run your score as quickly as possible to avoid the cut from becoming 'hot', where the score begins to widen and increase chance of an erratic run
@RainCastle7
@RainCastle7 5 лет назад
Awesome, cut plenty of thin glass so i know the sound, just wasn't sure if added pressure was needed, good video, thanks!
