This is the twenty third installment of my build of the CV-6. In this video I am assembling the armament of the ship. Once again I elected going for the Pontos set, but with Oerlikon guns from Bunker Studio. The armament is comprised of 4 x 40mm Bofors quad guns, 50 x 20mm Oerlikon guns, 8 x 5" single guns and one 1.1" quad gun.
The build is based on the Trumpeter 03712 kit with detail up sets from Pontos and KA-models; trying to use the best of both sets.

I agree that they have some really nice stuff. I haven’t looked at their aircrafts yet though.

The guns look phenomenal Kenneth! A lot more Zen work! Right my friend? The weathering you have on the carrier is out of this world! Can't wait for the next video!

Dear Kenneth, The bunker studio 3d printed guns are really outstanding in all respects. It was very interesting to see the comparison with the pontos set which also looked pretty good, although I suspect were much more work to assemble eh? Thanks for taking the time to edit this video and provide your excellent commentary. Regards, Z

Thanks Z 😊 Great to hear that it is as interesting. The Pontos one took like 10min + to assemble, so not too bad for the details you get. Then make 50 of them 😉 The Bunker alternative is definitely a good one, and the details are extraordinary imho. Regards Kenneth

For Midway the Big E had the 1.1" Chicago Pianos, the Bofors Quad 40's were installed after Midway but in time for the 1942 Solomons carrier battles. Beautiful workmanship on the guns.

Yes, she had 4 mounts at Midway; according to Norman Friedman’s book on US carriers, which is a useful book.

Hi Kenneth, Thank you for a great video on the bofors etc. I completely agree with you regarding some of the small PE parts. I build 1/350 ships. Some of the tiny parts add nothing to the model, particularly when they are less than the size of a pin head. Once the parts are painted, the super tiny parts generally disappear.
@NorwegianModellingBench
@NorwegianModellingBench 10 месяцев назад
Thanks Mark :-) Exactly; when the parts more or less look like "dust" it doesn't add anything really.

Dude now that’s what I call a gun show! Outstanding work dude. I am taking notes for when I get around to building mine. I’m currently working on the 1:200 Yamato and just love the larger scale ships.

Thank you so much for the kind words 😊 I agree, 1/200 ships are fun to build. The Yamato in 1/200 is huge, must be a great build. Good luck 👍

Great work. I am abit disappointed you did not use the 20mm pontos guns would have liked to see your build process on them but thats life 🙂, i am currently build 46 of the 20 mm pontos guns in 1:350 scale for the USS Essex. But again your work is really impressive and a inspiration.

Thanks Craig for the kind words! I built one of them, but I didn't record the process. They are actually quite easy to build, but then again you have to build 50 ;-)

Hi Kenneth. Nice work buddy.. send me your address I'll send my guns for you to build lol. FYI.. it would appear that the ammo load out on CV6 as per Pontos is around November 1942, having said that the spec I have states she had 46 of the 20mm guns not the 50 in the kit.
@NorwegianModellingBench
@NorwegianModellingBench 10 месяцев назад
Thanks Nigel! LOL I think you can manage building those 😉 I think you are right on that one, but it’s not stated anywhere from them as far as I have been able to find.

You using bunker's Oerlikon in the end? I found a very strange thing that Oerlikon in pontos doesn't have gunsight...
@NorwegianModellingBench
@NorwegianModellingBench 10 месяцев назад
Yes Tony I am going for the Bunker’s Oerlikons. The Pontos ones does not have the gunsight, but if you have the KA set you can add them to the Pontos ones.

Hi Ken Love your build on CV-6 Enterprise could you tell me how many guns & what type they are please.???? I'm starting my build on Enterprise as well, you'll given me great tips to help me along as well THANKS 😊👍 Why lm asking about guns is l saw some from Bunker Studio too purchase they look great. I don't have the pontos up market set😔, but do have the KA up market set🙂 If you can help with my question that would be much appreciated. Cheers Daryl.
@NorwegianModellingBench
@NorwegianModellingBench 10 месяцев назад
Hi Daryl! Thank you, and I love to hear that I have given you some tips along the way :-) I only used the Oerlikon from Bunker Studio on this one, as you could see. There are 50 Oerlikons, 4 Bofors (but without the shield, so be aware), 8 5" single guns and 1 1.1" Quad Gun (Chicago piano) on my build, but it all depends on the time period that you are depicting. You have some nice guns in the KA kit, so I would have used those as a starting point at least. Have a great one! Kenneth
