A special thank you goes out to Heatblur Simulations for giving CVW-11 the opportunity to be on the testers team. It was an honor and a privilege to be part of the process! I'd like to also thank Jabbers for giving us the opportunity to collaborate with his videos and ours. Go check out his channel! A link to Jabbers channel is in the description and at the end of the video! - Matt "IceFire" Schuette CAG-11

Carrier Air Wing Eleven Thank You for your absolute dedication, your Service, and for taking the time to do this amazing and professional educational video. I had only just heard about your channel because of Jabbers, I am truly thankful. The way in which you present the material is similar to what I have experienced in the USAF and also in civilian type rating training, you definitely know your stuff. Salute to you Sir!

Although I appreciate the effort which went into this vid I just have 2 negative comments about the video itself (not the content) 1- Speak up son! some of us are having trouble hearing you when you speak so softly..At some point I could barely make out what your saying. 2- When you are pointing out panels and switches you need to zoom the panels so they fill the screen..not everyone has 70 inch 4K displays to make out what the panels say or where the switches are.That cockpit is bad enough with the amount of wear they put into the textures so they are barely readable as it is but not zooming enough is making us go blind. Anyway thanks for the Info on the plane it was very informative if difficult to discern .

@@tonyz8553 I have no problem with the volume even on laptop speakers... maybe check that out on your end. Or if you can provide a timestamp for when it got quiet? As for number 2, whip out the manual and follow along as that's the best way to get the most out of this.

Amazing insanely excellent and helpful video. One small comment: Maybe consider not doing the mouth cluck sound? The first couple of times it’s no sweat.... but in a long video such as this, especially where the listener has to really closely pay attention to every word you say it got really distracting. Thank you for taking the time to make this.

Nice explanation. I would suggest in the future when doing these type of videos to think about turning shadows off in the cockpit and turning on the panel and flood lights so that each button and switch are easily identifiable by the watcher. It could just be my monitor, but around half of the buttons or switches were very hard to see. Again, great video presentation. Salute.

The Data/ADF switch mentioned around 42:50 is actually included in the RIO Cold Start tutorial despite not being modeled. They ask you to set it to "both" and even highlight where the switch is, even though you can't click it. That makes me suspect that it will be implemented eventually. That switch is actually why I went looking for a tutorial - to find out what it does and whether it's necessary. Thanks for taking the time to run through the whole cockpit!

I was an I-level AT in VAW-122 from 83-86. I worked on all crypto and some E-2 gear. The KY-58s came into use in 1984 after lessons learned in Grenada. The navy was still using KY-28s in 1983 but all other services had 58s and they were not compatible. During ops over Lebanon in late 83 a pissed off F-14 crew came into our w/c where we also worked on ALQ-126s after a TARPS mission. They said a SAM was shot at them and when they turned the 126 on the missile kept tracking. They had failed to set it to standby earlier to allow it to warm up and then to operate when they were in a threat area. Oops

@carrierairwingeleven1747
@carrierairwingeleven1747 3 года назад
Roll SAS is counterproductive to BFM in the Tomcat. The airplane will fight you with the SAS on as the SAS does not like high AOA maneuvers. For example; If you are at high AOA you will notice that if you stick left, you'll bank right, because of this the SAS will attempt to correct that and therefore make it worse. This is why for high AOA and slow you want to use the Rudder more than the stick for roll control, or think backward and learn to control that reversal and use it.

I have a very specific question. On the armament panel of the RIO cockpit there are what look to be locking lever switches. Now I have a few locking lever switches of my own, they're not the same ones as are in the F-14. Mine have teeth on the part of the switch that moves, these teeth lock into teeth on the body of the switch. Which as I'm sure you're aware locks the switch. Back to the armament panel, the movable part of the switch looks to be lacking these teeth, however the base of the switch has what looks like a place for these teeth to engage. Are these switches missing the teeth or is this just another Grumman quirk?
@stevenspicer14
@stevenspicer14 5 лет назад
I think it’s just the visual. The switch had a tooth and the body had a tooth. You’d pull the switch outwards to get it up and over the tooth on the body.

Is Pulse Search/PSTT still vulnerable to clutter/losing lock on a aerial target in look down over water? in the pulse search over water it appears that the water does not register any return, therefore I would guess that a PSTT over water would be more or less unbreakable (notch or clutter).

I am curious, was TID a raster scan or vector-type display?

So what's the difference between the F-14D's radar and the F-15E's radar? I seem to recall that the D's APG-71 incorporated modules and tech developed from the F-15E's APG-70 radar

hey :) thanks for your video. I got one question to the alert-5 state... Did you align the whole thing and shut it down again to realign it within one "session"? Or is there a way to save the state of the aircraft in some way to jump in a bird with stored heading information? Thanks in advance.
@stevenspicer14
@stevenspicer14 5 лет назад
Nicolas Hartmann you aligned it per “session”, if I’m assuming correctly what you mean by session, I.e. for the period of time that a crew is manning the jet on the catapult. The fact that the crew is manning the jet is irrelevant to the alignment, of course... the only thing that’s relevant is that the jet and the boat can’t be turned to a new heading, or the alignment will have to be re-run.

@@stevenspicer14 I was talking about the implementation into DCS - the real world procedure was stated in the video, but I was wondering how it was done. I guess he loaded up the game, made the alignment, shutdown the jet, stayed in game, startet filming and started the re-alignment to benefit from the stored alignment. I further guess there is no way in DCS to jump in an F14 with stored heading information - that was my question.

Nicolas Hartmann ah, OK, sorry, yes, it doesn’t work in DCS the way it works in real life... in DCS, you simply check “Stored Heading Alignment” in the ME for your plane, in the same screen where you choose your load out. There’s a tab in there that looks like an envelope... it’s in there.

Would it be possible to slave the radar to the TCS if a target is notching? Or is it hard to get a proximity lock with the camera at aircraft?
@stevenspicer14

Muppetlord it is possible but extremely difficult to capture a maneuvering target with the TCS.

Question on Computer IP mode: you said bearing range altitude from IP. Does this mean difference in altitude from IP’s altitude or just the MSL altitude at the target? This is at about 31:00

Corey Ballard It’s the altitude difference as opposed to the absolute altitude...

2:13:25 is the picture shown the optimum fire range? I do not quite understand the whole concept of the bright area with the lines and the dot with the meanings of each.
@joshkonowalski7222
@joshkonowalski7222 3 года назад
actually i think i understand it now. the line from the data link (i think) shortens to the maximum (dot at end of line) then when it goes in between the bright line that is the optimal range to fire the phoenix' at? then anything below that is closing in and when the line disapears that means you are almost too close and should probably switch to a different weapon?
