The thing that always attracts me to Cyndi is that one can never tell for sure if she's playing out a character during old interviews. For example, here, I bet noone can be sure whether she's serious or not.
She is so funny. Her ability to make people wonder if she is joking is real talent. I'm 43 (I was 6 when this interview occurred), my Dad is turning 74 and my Mum who would be 73 this year (she passed away last year Boxing Day 2020) listened to her music too. Girls just want to have fun crosses the ages no doubt about that. I always think that if multiply generations listens and enjoys a singer then they are truly talented like Elton John, the Bee Gees etc.
I think she was being her self cause you can tell if someone is playing a character there over the top. But she’s just talks to everyone like there family
I just looked her up to see what she looks like in 2017. I was very surprised. She is beautiful and looks like she's in her early 40's, instead of her mid-60's.
This is kind of adorable and I really enjoyed this interview... you can tell that Dave's really into her whole 'She's so Unusual' vibe... he's having fun and going along with her child-like wonder instead of being condescending... he can sometimes be like that when he doesn't really like someone... He keeps telling her to stick around and it's rather endearing to watch him fall under her spell... her voice seems to take on a deeper tone when he brings up being a Geisha... How can you not love someone who's so different and yet so authentic at the same time?
I needed her to be my bestfriend growing up. I loved her sooo much in High School... yes I had records 😀💜 She is different like me 💜 I appreciate her so much 💛
You can hear her voice slipping from the childish to normal when she is talking about captain lew albano, her being a singer it's obviously hard to stay in the higher range too much
He knows 4 octaves. He can also speak in quite a deep range. He speaks deeper in another interview. She loves to fool around and has a good sense of humor. And her singing skills are fantastic.
Dave gets it. She's so calculated while she is putting on a show. He's just reveling in the fact that he knows whats behind the act. she's brilliant. Cyndi is one of the greatest of all time.
I can see thru coloured my favorite songs oh and girl just wont have fun . and time after time all of my favorite 1980s song of all time i really love her she is beautiful and sweet like Angel from heaven 💖💖💖💖😍😍😍
Cyndi Lauper. People have forgotten that for a few years, she was as big as Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Prince. As far as the public persona she had at this juncture, it was a carefully maintained act. She had this loud, colorful, boisterous, and childlike demanor…BUT what most of us didn’t realize at the time was that she was already in her early 30s. She was very shrewd and business-minded having been in the business for 10 years. The other three were only in their mid-20s at the time. By the time she put out “True Colors” (circa 1987) it was very obvious she was at a different point in her life. She looked older, and it was almost like she had been SEDATED. However, looking back as an adult, I realized that she had basically grown up. She was looking for “normalcy”; ready to start a family; and so forth. She was in her mid-30s by then.
I think her voice was an act, because I have heard her in other talk shows, and her voice is very normal. She broke out at a time when dressing up in weird costumes was accepted in the music industry and fans seemed to like it.
The big difference between the "weird costumes" of then vs now is that they were self styled by the artist themselves...very inspirational to the creative kids of the 80s.
@Alex Lindh yep, that's true, in the Blue Angel period, she talks 'normal'. I think she acts more like a child in here because her age, she was 30 at that time and in industry that was a problem at the time
Cyndi is so funny and awesome. Johnny Carson show were classy he had the seats that had the foot rest that rise up. Not Dvid Letterman his show was class B or C 😂 But I did always enjoy his shows 🤔 The Late Nigh show today on CBS, ABC and NBC are crap. I miss the 80's and 90's 😪
It's hilarious how uncomfortable the audience seems to be when in the presence of such a strong woman lmao. She just owns the room and runs circles around anyone who takes pause in wondering if she's for real or not. And shes hilarious - shouts out to the few people who eere laughing at sll her jokes
In an alternate universe I was born 20 years earlier and married Cyndi Lauper and together we had 2 kids; one of them that went on to become the first President to be inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame and the other to be Kurt Cobain’s personal sobriety coach who helped him overcome addiction. Kurt dedicated his 6th studio album to him.
