"He was a complete, amazing footballer, undoubtedly one of the greatest Greek players of all time" (Nikos Anastopoulos about Dimitris Saravakos) Music: Robert Parker - Into The Void
I'm surprised about your work because this player is not well-known out of Greece. But Saravakos was a very fantastic player. Even Juventus really wanted to sign with him.
Thanks for doing this video and introducing Saravakos to todays audience...for me he is the best ever greek football star. At his time he was well known in Europe...he was a candidate for ballon d'or twice and was considered to be one of the top 30 european footballers between 1985 and 1995. The reason why not many people know him today is because he didnt play outside of Greece for a big European team as he deserved...he played 10 years for Panathinaikos with great wins in Greece and Europe, and made new generations of fans...very very fast, smart, amazing goal scorer, gave many assist passes to others to score, great technique, he could make a deference and change a match even against teams like juventus. But what made him special was his unique style while watching him play the game and his really modest character...he is appreciated even from fans of enemy clubs in Greece...
One of the best Greek players of all time. The fact that he is not known outside Greece is based on the rare attention of European fans to Greek football. In fact during his era, PAO made some excellent performances in European competitions. As an Olympiakos fan, I always respected and admired him. Thank you for this video.
I remember him playing against Argentina at the 94 World Cup, he technically remembered Julen Guerrero, the long-distance poisonous kicks, the ease of playing anywhere in the field, even the resistance to transfer the millionaire teams, anyway, personal opinion ! Great player, great video...
One of the most charismatics players Greek football ever produced, his athletic ability along his technique, long shots and free kick ability made him one of a kind player for his era!he could easily play to higher lever but the era was difficult for such carrer back then!My mother had difficult time to take out his t shirt with number 7 from me as i would even wear it on my sleep!
Your video brought tears to my eyes.....My all time favorite player...I grew up watching him playing every sunday...Saravakos was way ahead of his time...a panathinaikos legend and not only..as a teenager i used to have a huge poster of his in my room...32 years later i still have this poster but it is in really bad shape.I really really thank you for this amazing video.Wish you all the best, keep up the good work.
Thanks to this video I've discovered a new football star. I knew some great greek players like Nikolaidis or Tsartas, but I've never heard of Saravakos until now. He deserves to be more known, like he is in Greece.
No body introduces obscure national legends from the 1980's like this beloved channel. Vasillas Hatzipaganagis. And even kevin keegan start to become forgotten tho he was 1977 european footballer of the year
Barbosa your great videos cover legends from different eras and countries, players that we loved and were lucky to watch, you are a true football fan. Now to see a tribute for Greek player, you have take it to another level. Yes Saravakos was a complete and gifted player, even before Bosman rule, in his prime could easily play in any top league, in his lates was also too good for the greek league. More suggestions for greek players Vassilis Tsartas (great playmaker and free kicker) Demis Nikolaidis (striker) Nicos Machlas (striker) Mimis Domazos (attacking midfielder aka The General) Thomas Mavros (the batigoal of Greece) Vasilis Hatzipanagis (the greek Maradona, he played all his career in a historic but not contender club and because of the rules of that time couldnt play for the national team, if he played now he would be famous all over the world) Suggestions for top class foreigners that played with great success and are legends in Greece Lajos Detari (Hungary) Krzysztof Warzycha (Poland) Predrag Đorđević (Serbia) Toni Savevski (FYROM) Vierinha (Portugal) Gioavvani (Brasil, already famous as he played for Barcelona, not only didnt came to Greece for retirement but spent his best years there, a world class player) Keep up the good work, great videos.
Amazing work!!! Please make a video for vasillis hatzipanagis the greek ''maradona'' .Here in Greece we believe he's the most gifted player we ever had!!
I knew about Saravakos when I lived for a while in Greece, and he amazed me, played as the dynamo of the team, he was in charge of everything, scoring, assisting, dribbling, taking penalties, free kicks , corners, number 9, number 10 , winger, he was just every where
At his time club Panathinaikos made 1 champions league semifinal (1984),1 champions league top-8 (final stage was 2 groups of 4 teams) and 1 uefa cup quarter final (1988).Juventus wanted him , they knew him well because at his time Panathinaikos disqualify JUVE twice ! (i think one time in chl and one in uefa cup).If he decided to play in Italy or sth or the Greek national team had made a big tournament at his glory days (and not in '94 when he was still good , but not at his prime) everybody would mention him as one of the top-european players, believe me he was about 2-3 times better than any Greek player of the 2004 team that won the euro.He had EVERYTHING high level techique,he was super fast and had incredible shot. What more you could ask?
First! I remember 1 , maybe 2 years ago i was started asked you to make a video for a greek player. Now my wish is froutfull. Thanks a lot it is a special video for a greek legend. We want more and more video... Everyday if you can.....Greetings from Greece!
@@marioriva4235 Hi my friend! Yes i am greek! So on your question is difficult to answer you but i drop some details to choose you. Thomas Mauros= God of Goal(Most goal in our league and played in World Team X of 1981 if i remember) Vassilis Hatzipanagis= The most technical greek player (Iraklis rejected 2 times offer from Real Madrid) Mimis Doamazos= The most tactical player, the total "10" I hope to help you with that details and from me i choose Mauros because i liked the goalscorer's like Shearer
Thanks for the great answer. Mavros was a god of AEK, and I felt he was a complete goal scorer after I watched some of his clips. The forward line consists of Saravakos-Mavros-Hatzipanagis, all time Greek best XI would be very fantastic!
@@comunistanuncatemcomida Haha yes it is difficult but you faced not the most talented team but the most teamworked teams with a German coach! Have a nice day
Another amazing vídeo Barbosa! I like your Channel because you put players i never ear, each is rare. I love football and i know a lot a players. He looks good player im gone search is biography. Theres a greek who play only in Iraklis, nickname Maradona of Greece. Vassilis Hatzisomething, i dont remenber the surname 😂. You should do a vídeo about him. Im gone look for the other name
He has scored more difficult goals than those in the video... for example, Netherlands-Greece 1-1.. when he scored from the middle of the football pitch! Best Greek player ever
Congratulations for making this video about a legend of Greek football , greetings from Greece, I don't know if you can find enough footage to make also videos about Vasilis Hatzipanagis (nickname Vasia, Nureyev) and Thomas Mavros (nickname Theos) , Mimis Domazos (The general) and Mimis Papaioanou (Vlachos) they are all legends that if they were not in Greek championship they would play in Barcelona and real madrid
Can you make a video of Dragan Mance? He is similar to Saravakos, player known mostly in ex Yugoslavia, legend of Partizan Belgrade... He died in car accident in 1985, when he had just 23 years.
I have never known this player. He was excellent, esp his strikes; his curling FKs were always impressively hard/powerful. Btw the passing from his team-mates that were targeted to him were also superb. Maybe you can identify those team-mates that provided superb passing and then will do the videos of those players too.
Panathinaikos had a great team at those period until 2010. Very big club. Unfortunately the financial management of the club has been flawed. Whatever, today to exist on the European scene you have to weigh hundreds of millions and be part of the big leagues.

Can you do Ariel Ibagaza, Alan Shearer, Marcelo Delgado (Boca), Alexander Mostovoi, Beppe Signori, Georgatos (one of the best crossers of all times) ?

@ Very nice. I also have a suggestion to make. Goals are a striker's job, passmaking and organizing the game is a playmakers role, rushing in flanks and delivering great deep passes and crosses are a winger job. I have noticed you focus a lot on goals for every position. For example, I want to see more of Nedved rushes and passing deliveries than goals. He is not a striker. Same if you would do Mostovoi, Ibagaza or Xavi. Think about it.
