Vertically challenged Assassins

When I started raising dachshunds in the late 50s, we only had two colors to choose from. Black and tan or brown. When you bread too many brown dachshunds in line with each other, you ended up with a faded-out brown that I didn't like. If you bread with a black and tan dog, you ended up with a dark red colored dog. This is still my favorite one. We showed under the AKC in Minnesota and Wisconsin. We also were members of the AKC dog clubs.

Dauchunds are my favorite breed and I've had three I loved with all my heart.❤❤❤

We have had minis, one lived to 19 years, we now have a medium sized one. They bark VERY loud!

There is one other color. Sable. It is a Red with a black undercoat. Very distinctive and rare. It is absolutely beautiful. A friend of mine had one. Lucy. Sadly she passed after 17 years of a wonderful life. She was a sweetheart. Now I have a chocolate and tan. And he has 2 Black and tans.

Some of these "colors" are patterns. Piebald is a pattern, not a color. Tri-merle is not a pattern for dachshunds. The merle pattern in dachshunds is called dapple. There can be a lot of dappling or only a small amount. Either way it is correctly termed as dapple not merle. Brindle is also a pattern not a color. There are different colors with brindle. Also, there is no such thing as a tri-merle. Sadly, there is such a thing as a double dapple( unethical to breed as pups can be born deaf and/or blind), but not a triple dapple. You can have multiple patterns on a dog. Example, a red dapple piebald with brindling dachshund. Red is the base color while dapple, piebald, and brindle are the patterns. It's pretty cool!

We have two smooth dapples. They are beautiful, unusual and a hoot.

Currently have 8yr female mini, a short-haired brindle - first few years challenging, but sooo rewarding :) Previous doxie was rescued @ 10yrs old,; long-haired grey/black/fawn mini - she was amazing, still grieve her/dementia that took her.

I guess my dog is a shaded red, he is very dark red with a black shading. His breeder called his color mahogany.

I just got piebald dabble or brindle piebald im not sure loll but she is soo adorable, she has marking like no other I have seen! she is 13 weeks old and her name is Shelly! I have made several videos of her on the channel :)

We have peabald long haired boy and black tan short haired girl. Apples of our eyes.

There are also just Isabellas (no tan) with hazel eyes. Beware of some of these colors that result from overbreeding. The dogs pay the price.
