Hey Guys I love the way you guy broke down "The Diary" I'm N.O. Joe. I also produced and mixed the entire Ridin Dirty UGK with Pimp C Album and several other southern classics The entire Geto Boys "Til death do us part" album where I introduced the b3 Organs and live instrumentation southern hip hop and created a unique sound. Check out my breakdown of "I Seen a man die" song ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b0x0ckZ34OI.htmlsi=i8D4GrWNn30SKXwP Thanks! 🤘🏽
Cause I'm thinking about this even more current day you can say with 'The Fix' and 'Last of a Dying Breed' features and more. Scarface never disappoints.
I recommend all albums. And Geto boy albums. I been a fan since the 8th grade. I'm 47 now. But the made album and the fix and the last two deeply rooted and the lost files. And a album called work ethic and he put a group out called the product he's all over it and they are lyricsly just as good as he. Please have a Scarface month any questions about Scarface or Houston rap trust me I'm the go to guy. I listen to Scarface daily since 1987. And pos right about hearing ice cube in his delivery he said himself he gets a from ice cube he said he cheated and got some from every MC and packaged it up. He is legally marked manic depressive
I always enjoy your reactions but this was probably the greatest one of them all. To see how you both found out about the genius of Scarface with all his facetts plus the fantastic productions by the legends Mike Dean, N.O. Joe and Uncle Eddie, your enthusiasm for nearly every song...the sharp analysis of the tracks by Pops + his honest opinions and the love for details by Kay. Like someone else said...enjoy your Rap-ALot Records journey, cause there's so many fantastic albums released on that label. You will like it for sure...even though Scarface might be untopable, but the label roster had such a variety and always backed up by the greatest productions by Mike Dean, N.O. Joe and more. Check out 5th Ward Boyz, Blac Monks & Mr. 3-2, 5th Ward Juvenilez, Ganksta Nip, Devin The Dude & Oddsquad, DMG, A-G-2-A-Kee, Menace Clan, Seagram, Facemob, Too Much Trouble's 2nd album (the first one will be too rough & brutal for you I guess), Big Mike, Poppa LQ, the Do or Die debut album and of course Bushwick Bill "The Phantom Of The Rapra" 58:36
Devin The Dude is the guy singing on the the hook of "Hand of the Dead Body" with Ice Cube. One of the most talented artist to come out of Rap A Lot started out in the group The Odd Squad then became a member of Facemob. One of the most underrated rappers of all time, his music is more comedic and blues oriented as far as content goes.
I’m extremely curious to see how your father reacted to this!! Your father’s appreciation for hip hop leaves me speechless. I don’t think a lot of people realize hip hop is a newer form of music that was not accepted when it first came out especially gangster rap like Scarface. CD’s of artists like Scarface, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, NWA, etc. were openly destroyed in the streets, banned from radio stations, with politicians even speaking out against these artists. White Sheet is one of my favorites. Only problem with this album is it’s to short.
Check out "The Fix" and "Deeply Rooted". Scarface is so nice and has a lot of range. You can see his growth from The Ghetto Boys albums and his solo outtings. He still manages to be him, though.
Yes the hook for "Goin Down" is a sample of Nena-99 Red Balloons or (german version) 99 Luft Balloons that track "Hand Of The Dead Body" are maybe the 2 favs on the album that i can recall
This was awesome bro. You should do " The Fix" album by Scarface. You and your dad would enjoy it. Kanye on production and songs with Jay z, kelly price ,beanie , etc. On kanyes through the wire music video it shows kanye coming to Houston working with scarface for the Fix album !!! Keep up these good videos and much respect to you and your dad bro 💯
Hello! I have been watching you two for awhile and truly enjoy your reactions and discussion. I wanted to weigh in on the discussion around 12:40 when you start analyzing the last part of the song. This is one of my favorite songs! In my circle (limited, I know) and interpretation, the song is a pretty directly a revenge song for someone who killed his best friend. I do agree that he is grappling with a bit of guilt about what has to happen, but the emotion is pure rage. They don't trust to the police to care or follow up so he is doing it himself. Street justice. ("Since you like to kill, then your ass has got fry, but ain't no police, therefore your ass has to die...") He can't sleep at night because he can't rest until he has completed his mission to avenge this friend. That is what haunts him. ("I see your picture in my mind and my hand shakes.") Shakes with sadness at the memory of his friend. It also shakes at the image of the man who killed his friend still in the land of the living. He has anger and anticipation to finish the job. That the expectations of his crew and what his OGs (elders) told him to do. ("And we real with this shit, so we stay true, since we bang, then we do what OGs say do." That is the interpretation I know from conversations I have had about this song. I've also heard it MANY times! Fun fact this will be mentioned 90,000x but this is heavily featured in cult classic movie Office Space! Happy Friday and keep it going 🙂
Great interpretation of the song, I always thought his albums were therapeutic in a sense. Having to deal with living in those types of neighborhoods and what all comes with it. The way he's always talking about his mental state, I'm sure he opened a few eyes with his lyrics.
Since you seem to know what you’re talking about, do you think No Tears and Jesse James are part of the same story? Because in No Tears he talks about what he wants to do to his target, and in the song after that he IMMEDIATELY talks about how he snuck up on his target
Classic story telling! Check out the self titled song "Scarface" on the 1989 Geto Boys Album "Grip it on that other level". (He made 3 Mr. Scarface songs this is the 1st.) You should also do the full Scarface Album "The Untouchable". ● Other notable classic Solo Scarface Songs (So many)-- Now I Feel Ya, Win Lose or Draw, Gotta get Paid, Never, Who do you believe in, Exit Plan, Rooted, Do What I Do, In & out, In cold Blood, On My Block, Cold Blooded, Sleepin in my Nikes.... ● Other notable classic Solo Bushwick Bill Songs- Ever so Clear, Chuckie, Ex-Girlfriend ● Other notable classic Solo Willie D Songs- Bald headed hoes, I need some Pussy ■ Other notable classic Geto Boys songs-- Assassins, Mind of a lunatic, Gangsta of Love, Let a Ho be a Ho, Im not a gentleman, Damn it feels good to be a gangsta, Yes Yes Yall, First Light of the day, Time Taker, Still, Do it like it G.O.... Have fun!
Its time you go down the Devin the Dude journey. He’s also all time great lyricist and story teller from Houston (was also on the Chronic 2000 album) and so many classics. Maybe start with the Album Just tryin to Live or Lacville 79 track or Doobie Astray.
One of my top 5 cds of all time. I still know it from start to finish. I was in high school when this came out and I was transfixed. Y’all should do a review again after listening to it a few more times. Lol
Killing don't make us no difference, dying don't make us no difference. Means they don't care about killing or about dying We use the phrase "don't make me no difference" means we're impartial to whatever the outcome
Love this Father/Son relationship yall have. It’s a thing of beauty! Please react to a artist/rapper from Detroit named Esham. React to his album “Boomin Words From Hell” or “KKKill the Fetus”. Keep doing what you’re doing its great to see!
Scarface albums "The Fix & "Untouchable " also classics UGK "Riding Dirty" 8ball & MJG "On top of the World" Goodie Mob "Soul Food" OutKast "Southernplayalistic" "Aquemini" All these Albums are Southern Classics
They really need to do Devin some day. Then let ‘em do full album. Funniest rapper out there, and you ain’t even need to be a weed smoker. Also underrated as a producer and lyricist. Yup lyricist.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥This A Great Classic Album...All The Songs Are Good,Great Or SUPERB!..BUUUUUT I Do Have A Favorite Song On This Album..And Thats Track # 7 "ONE"..The Beat Iz Sooooo 🔥🔥...Some Songs Make You Bobb Your Head. This Song,"ONE" Make You Bobb Yo Body. Im Literally ROCKIN' With This Junt!🔥👍🏾💯💯👍🏾🔥..Great Great Reactions Y'all
😂I Luuuuuv Your Dad's Reaction On Track # 10 ,When You Said,"Oh That's ICE 🧊." And He Stopped Moving COMPLETELY With A Frozed Gaze(42:15)..😂..That Was So Kool But Funny Too.
I commented this a few minutes earlier. Then I started browsing through the comments to see if any one else caught it. That was also one of my favorite traccs to listen to while playing Gran Turismo 3!
Port Author is around 1 hour and 30 minutes East of Houston on Interstate 10. It's between Houston and New Orleans along that Interstate so a lot of business is probably done there.
My Mind's Playing Tricks On Me was originally written by Scarface. He took 2 of his verses off and added it to the Ghetto Boys catelog. He also wrote Bill's verse
Oh yea I had to double back since your doing a lot of Scarface try his other classic album the fix and Tupac also named face as one of his favorite rappers
Great reaction to a great classic album. There are just a few little things I wanted to point out. I always felt like there was a subtle narrative to this album. Notice how continuous it is? Each song sort of goes right into the next one, even if connected by an interlude or skit... they often feel like a continuation of the "scene" before. Some almost feel like the next moment, while others are the next day or week. Y'know, like diary entries. Also, on "Never Seen A Man Cry", I always interpreted that chorus to mean, similarly to your interpretation, that as a product of a tough environment filled with machismo, that he had never witness a man shedding tears until he saw a man die, possibly by his own hand. However, I take it as though HE is the one crying. He never knew such grief and remorse until he witnessed, or possibly committed murder. Also, if you go back to the Tiny Desk, he shares a little anecdote about how he and Mike Dean were working on the song, and his cousin had come to visit the studio. I think the voices at the beginning are from them talking in the studio. I'm looking forward to you guys doing Isaac Hayes, and PLEASE do some Devin The Dude. You loved him on this album, and I think you'd like some of his other work. He is a brilliant, yet largely unsung rapper/singer who has collaborated with many of the greats from the South and West.
Let's go Isaac Hayes!!! I've never really been an "active" member of a book club. I get bored with them eventually. I think this is my new "book club". 😊
Just dropping a handful of wholesome hip-hop songs as reaction ideas... Nappy Roots - Po Folks (feat Anthony Hamilton) J. Cole - Breakdown (since he was recently mentioned) Big K.R.I.T - Yesterday D'Angelo - Higher Outkast - Liberation ...could go on and on, but these are just some ones I tend to go back to every now and then. Also anything Bone Thugs/Krayzie Bone.
That sample at the end was the Scarface theme from the movie Scarface. Great album. The Fix is another great Scarface album. It was like his comeback of sorts
"Minds Playin Trick" Face really did that. "Now she gone home to her mother, and I'm realizing that I love her, my mind was playin tricks on me" to Now she's back with her Ol 'Lady (mother), got it going on and they sure hate me, now I realized I was a goner, and she was a Loner, her mind was playing tricks on her.
Awesome reaction, gentlemen! Scarface is a legend in music. His production, lyrics, and delivery only strengthen with each release. Check out these 2 albums: SCARFACE - UNTOUCHABLE (1997) & SCARFACE - The LAST OF A DYING BREED (2000) Blessingz
Ironic pops mentioned Nate Dogg, I've always told folks Devin is the Houston version of Nate... lol. Devin is really that dude pun intended.... Y'all should check out his albums "Just Trying 2 Live" or "2 Tha Xtreme"
Another banger reaction, you guys gotta react to Zro Life Of Joseph W. McVey, Chamillionaire The Sound Of Revenge, Devin The Dude and Scarface's Deeply Rooted(One of the Greatest and Most Underrated Hip Hop albums of all time imo)
1. Once again lovethw breakdown between Father/Son on this masterpiece 2. If you lives this by Uncle Face, next chapter definitely has to be "Last of a dying breed" deals with a lot of his mental state during his accident. C. If you enjoy story telling might I suggest "Tony's story" by Meek Mill. Has 3 chapters and unfolds like a soap opera.
Ice Cube and Scarface are my numbers 1 and 2 of my top five MCs, so yes, their collaboration on this album is legendary to me. Hand of the Dead Body is a staple of any Hip Hop playlist, mix CD, etc that I make, for myself or others. Absolutely classic album. Y'all should check out the album just before this one "The World is Yours". It's a little more light hearted (as much as a Scarface album could be considered light hearted, so, not as dark). Another classic, in my opinion, and it has another song that is a staple on my playlists "Let Me Roll".
One thing you both must understand about the difference of sounds is that Ice Cube, Scarface, The Geto Boys and N.W.A. changed that (sound) during their run 91 to 96. These are 2 MCs they tried to ban from music! Imagine that?!... Hand of the Dead Body. Peace
Oh man, this was one of the first rap albums I ever owned. This album was AMAZING! You could listen to this from beginning to end and not skip over anything. I'd play this all day back in the day when i owned it.
EMINEM "Lose Yourself" is a must in my opinion. Don't you guys think? The longest #1 Hip Hop single and won awards. Pops needs to watch the movie "8 Mile"
Great Album! Scarface is one of the greats! You have to check out Devin The Dude album - The Dude (South Classic). So soulful, hilarious and down to earth album.
You gotta show your dad the fix next! American ghetto classic! I used to get my hair cut at the barber shop in the hood with that album playing. “On my block” is one of the greatest hip hop songs of all time! Much love to our brothers up there in Canada coming from deep in the dirty south. We love you guys your awesome.
My God guys you are killing it. Have you ever considered reacting to an African artist. If you do please do Fela. It will makeu heart sing. He's gone but listen to todays Afrobeat. It's all Fela in a new form
Man if only yall realized this entire album is a story. From the beginning of the album, from the first song, it’s an entire story… why do you think the first song ends with the beeeeeep and then “now the funeral is over” !! Damn if yall would’ve known it was a story, yall would’ve been even more blown away!
This is Courtney from South Carolina I'm a big fan of your show I think you guys would like Keyshia Cole,Kenny Lattimore ft Boney James, and also Coast Contra
Mystikal Murder 2… your dad would love that production! It’s a song about the night his sister was murdered. You’ll need the lyrics available for sure lol
Scarface got better lyrically after this album ,a bit more commercial as well . Still "the fix and Deeply rooted " are my favorite albums from him + "suicide note" and "mental exorcism" 2 of my favorite story telling songs from Face
Kanye took influence from "i couldnt give a muthafug about the sentence recently when he said "people waitin for me to say the wrong thing, ok you the king, burger king" said because it was the wrong thing. Scarface was a a big influence on Kanye
