olivia is half white & half filipino! her mom is from wisconsin so despite the fact that liv grew up in california that could be where your dad was hearing the midwestern influence in her voice bc i’m sure hearing her mom speak growing up influenced how she speaks/sings
i’m gonna throw conan gray’s name out there. him and olivia are best friends. his debut album is produced by dan nigro who also produced sour. super underrated artist imo. really good song writing (taylor swift is his biggest inspiration and you can def hear it in his music. taylor has actually called him and olivia her “children” lol). he puts so so much emotion into his lyrics and you can really feel it while listening. might be worth checking out:)
love your reactions. Lorde’s first two albums “pure heroine” and “melodrama” are some of the greatest albums of all time and paved the way for billie and Olivia who are both heavily inspired by her. jack antonoff also works with her. she was called the future of music by bob dylan & the Rolling Stones! would love to see you react
Has your dad or you listened to Taylor Swift outside of her radio singles? She's a big influence to Olivia, she actually sampled her on 1 step forward! Would love to see you react to her new midnights or the evermore/folklore albums!!
Despite her last name, she has no Latin or Spanish influences, her father is of Filipino descent and her mother is of Irish blood. In this case, the surname 'Rodrigo' comes from the father's side. (sorry for my English, I'm from Brazil)
@@camilles.810 You're right it is why parts of Latin America and the Philippines share so much in common like snacks and words. Many people confuse Filipino accents with Mexican accents because of this. They also share similar last names like Rodrigo for example.
Happier is definitely my favorite song on the album and it was actually the song her producer heard (she made a video on Instagram of her playing the guitar and singing it) that made him want to work with her and specially put emphasis on her writing the songs. And I can see how the dad also felt kinda what the producer did with that song. It makes you sway and just enjoy it completely and feel the music in your soul. Makes you just want to appreciate it and even slow dance.
ANTI by Rihanna is a need because of Super Bowl, Heroes and Villains from Metro Boomin to introduce Mike to good quality trap, and Motomami by Rosalia because I’m Latino 😅.
I never saw comparison as a bad thing because it’s ok to be influenced and inspired by artists especially when growing up. I never understood why some artist hate being compared positively with a artist that is held in high regards.
Great reaction! It was mainly produced by Dan Nigro (he also works with Conan Gray). I would love to see you react to either Melodrama by Lorde, or Folklore/Evermore by Taylor Swift at some point. Love all of your reactions though, they help me see some of my favourite albums through new eyes and appreciate them even more.
She’s really great, can’t wait to see what she does next! I think her lyricism and her ability to try different genres and styles in a short album says a lot about her talent.
I also love jealousy jealousy! It’s such a good double meaning with talking about struggling with body image seeing all of this “perfection” on social media, then also the sentence “jealousy jealousy started following me” also meaning that now she has become more popular, all of these people she previously was envious of are now following her. A wild mind f*ck for self image
So glad to see you guys doing this one. This album put me in my feels and I’ve never even experienced heartbreak 😂 she’s definitely one of my favorite writers.
I love the movement from Brutal to Traitor. It's like she has insecurities, some angst and being vunerable about herself in Brutal and then you go into Traitor and it's like WHO HURT YOU cause this is ROUGH. I will never forget hearing Traitor for the first time. I'm 35 and it brought me back to a previous relationship in my life. The way she was so hurt that you could hear it in her voice. I moved on and it was for the best and I hope for Olivia, that happens for her as well.
Nice video. It´s so nice to see people, especially men being respectful and enjoying music. I personally love that record because of the writing and how Olivia shows her vulnerability. Without a doubt, one of the best debuts ever.
I'm gonna suggest taylor swift. folklore and evermore are great places to start as new fans. the songs on the albums do have some connections to her personal life, however, the overall theme is made-up stories and characters she thought of during the lockdown period. they're sister albums and are put in the indie-pop genre. also, one thing about listening to her is paying attention to the lyrics. she is a writer above everything else and these two albums showcase that.
after seeing this, i have high hopes for a taylor swift album reaction. olivia and more younger artists are citing taylor as their influence specially when it comes to songwriting (outside the radio hits, taylor is pretty great at making lyrics) folklore and evermore are great picks to start her discography, diving into sounds of folk, singer-songwriter and chamber pop. red can be a great option too if you feel like listening to a mixed bag sonic-wise.
conan grays debut album kid krow is really good, also produced by Dan (the one that produced sour) it’s so good and he’s so underrated you guys would really appreciate his songwriting!
Saw it in another comment so just want to shout out, Lorde's Pure Heroine album is...literally just that. I think both of you would enjoy it. Favorite song would be Ribs, it really leans into the feeling of nostalgia and does it so so well.
When I first heard this album, although I liked every song, I thought the final 3 tracks were head-and-shoulders above the rest. Surprisingly so at the time. I still think that, maybe even more so. Maybe it's an older guy thing? 🤣Nice reaction, thanks!
P.S. When you do the live Olivia, maybe add in a couple of Billie's live gems too? She's 10 x better live imho. These one's will blow Mike's mind especially lol. Cheers: 1. "My future" live (Billie playing piano): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3Vuz4m9tFfw.html 2. i think you guys should also do Tell Me You Love Me, Dancing with the devil, the art of starting over and Holy Fvck by demi lovato! each of the albums really show how versatile she is and showcase her voice very well!!
you need to listen to Sabrina Carpenter's album "emails I can't send" as she is basically the other blonde girl Olivia sings about and her side is really interesting. Specifically "vicious" and "because I liked a boy"!!!
PLEASEEE do Lana Del Rey’s discography! Or at least Born to Die, Born to Die (Paradise Edition), and Ultraviolence. Her storytelling and description of her emotions will make you feel like you’re experiencing it yourself. Just subscribed :)
I feel like you guys would really like the instrumentals and lyricism of Taylor Swift’s folklore and evermore protects. Highly recommend checking them out!! Love the content!
I just watched some of your videos (taylor swift's folklore react brought me here) and you and your dad seem like great people... can't wait to watch the new video about speak now (and i think you should definitely listen to red taylor's version too), and also to meet some new artists in the future! do you intend to make a video about olivia's new single, "vampire"? I hope so, looking forward to hearing your opinions about it. Thanks for the videos and keep up the good work :)
I love watching these videos! I recommend reacting to Olivia Rodrigo performing the song You’re So Vain at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! My grandma and I rock out to it all the time💙 her lower register is so pretty
Great reaction subscribed! I haven’t seen anyone mention it but one step forward three steps back. The song in the background is a sample from a Taylor Swift song. Hopefully you react to folklore but the sample is from the song New Year’s Day.
Love watching. Your videos. She didn’t work with Jack Antonoff though. The 2 songs with songwriting credits (no producing credits) are because she sampled and Taylor and Jack’s work. So, they got songwriting credits for it. But, Olivia did not work with Jack, just added his name to the credits. Really loving watching you and your dad listen to music. would love for you to react to folklore or actually the long pond studio sessions though really gives an inside look at the songs. Or Midnights. Midnights has 21 songs though. But, its really good and may be more upbeat than folklore (which is a masterpiece).
I’ve never seen a good reaction to my favorite album of all time, women in music part 3 by Haim & I think y’all should give it a chance!! my favorite rock artists currently and they’re so overlooked which is unfortunate
OMG HAIM I love them sooo much!! I saw them live in Italy in 2018 .. it was amazing!!! I even met them! they were so nice and funny they are so talented!! i knew they would be successful and im glad they were Grammys nominated and they won a Brit Award bc they are unique and it’s not easy when you do your own thing! I love them 3 sisters making music by themselves, especially Danielle .. and I remember soon after casually I discovered Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas, obsessed with them too.. I think artists when they are siblings have a connection with music that rises to another level… something unique, authentic and special and it feels in the art they create! All 3 sisters play 2/3 instruments. I love them finally someone who appreciates them 👏🏻

I really loved this! So, for future reaction videos I would sugest Taylor Swift, If you want literary pennmanship and a complex concept album I would sugest Folklore and Evermore! Taylo Swift was one of Olivia's biggest lyrical inspirations, so give it a go! I promise is good
18:29 olivia is not latina. she's asian haha. filipina to be exact. i get it tho, both the philippines and latin america were colonized by spain. it's why we have similar last names.
I highly recommend checking out Aurora Aksnes, a Norwegian singer-songwriter known for her hauntingly beautiful music and unique voice. Aurora's music is a perfect blend of indie pop and electronica, with lyrics that are deeply introspective and explore themes of love, loss, and self-discovery.
Stumbled on your series last night and had to subscribe. I’ve been listening non-stop since then! Would love to see you react to The Bleachers since Jack Antonoff did a lot of production for Taylor Swift. Also Human Condition by Jon Bellion. Both older albums but so good.
now would be interesting if you guys reacted to Sad Songs In a Hotel Room by Joshua Basset (Or the EP he made in response to her songs about him) :) I love him as much olivia
I like that I read somewhere that Sour is the stages of grief or the stages gone through in a breakup. Because you get mad, sad, jealous, depressed. That explains the continuely bringing up like how they were barely even broken up before he moved on so many times. Also, the fact she's so self aware of her emotions. Like she never bashes Sabrina she only Bashes Joshua if anything she lifts Sabrina up and talks about how she shouldn't take it out on her. Which I think that takes a big person like a very emotionally mature person to not blame the other girl in all of it you know.
Now that you have listened to Sour you have to listen to Emails I cant send by Sabrina Carpenter- but you have to do a little research into the back and forth of this album coming out and Sabrina getting hate for dating the same guy as Olivia. It was insane the amount of backlash she got because of this album. Emails I cant send is not all about this situation, but definitely does have a strong now this is my side of the story aspect. I personally like Sabrina’s album more, but Sour is good too.
@@putyouon there was a lot of back and forth, but basically Sabrina Carpenter was the older blonde referenced in Sour and all of the Olivia Rodrigo fans took that to mean Joshua Bassett- the guy referred to in all of Olivia’s songs on Sour- cheated on Olivia with Sabrina. Wellll, Sabrina got a lot of hate because of this so she has a song in Email’s I cant send that is a direct response to the situation given some juicy new details that were not provided before. I also personally think that some of the songs in Email’s I cant send sound very reminiscent of Olivia’s punky style in Sour As like a nod to the two girls being pitted agains each other. They were both Disney girls- Sabrina more traditionally on the actual Disney channel and Olivia on a Disney plus original. I would love to know if you feel the same after listening to both albums. It is a very good album that I think is great.
Also, Olivia was the star of Disney Plus original High School Musical the Musical the Series- the whole show was about them putting on a musical so that is why she was recognized for her singing. And the set of this show is where she met the costar Joshua Bassett who she dated and the who all the songs on Sour are about.
id love to see you guys react to harry styles albums! I feel like your dad would at least appreciate how the perception of harry from his boy band days is definitely not what you find in his solo work. much like billie eilish being "just a poster with one hit"
Some recommendations: Steve Lacey - Gemini Rights (very unique imo, strong lyrics) Ariana Grande - Thank U, Next Ed Sheeran +, x, ÷ (strong lyrics, personal favorite is x) Ben Platt - Sing to me instead (strong vocals) Mazie - the rainbow casette (very unique and creative) Dodie - Human, Build a problem (strong lyrics, unique & creative) Melanie Martinez - K-12 (creative, good lyrics, unique) Thee Sacred Souls - Thee Sacred Souls (good vocals, great vibe, unique) Sybille Baier - Colour Green (can't say anything about it, it's just special) Lawrence - Living Room (good vibes and unique) Finneas - Blood Harmony (for obvious reasons w what you guys said in your billie videos) Arctic Monkeys - any album, they're amazing Hozier - Wasteland, Baby! (strong vocals, lyrics, creative imo) Harry Styles - Harry Styles (it's versatile and just so good, strong vocals, strong lyrics, creative) That's all I can think of right now Some are basic recommendations but I feel like they only deserve that title if it's good enough for many ppl to actually recommend it ❣️ Am excited for ur upcoming videos
Would love to hear your opinions on any of Harry Styles' albums :) Preferably Harry's House for a start. Great video, really enjoyed your guys' input. Keep going :))
Also, the valley girl or latina voice you were explain is her light almost nasaly like Vanessa Hudgens voice. Which takes a lot of air so its a light nasaly airy tone and voice. Which explains why her voice seems so different than others or unique.
i'd love to see a reaction to superache by conan gray!! it has some songs with really deep meanings for example family line and astronomy. and i would just really love to see the reaction to memories, cause that song is just amazing and especially the bridge
