ive been listening to the 1975 since 2013, they really have changed my life in ways i cannot even begin to describe. being funny is a stellar album that came out and the exact right time for me and I'm endlessly grateful. so happy to see others enjoy it too

What's always impressed me, and you can hear it on caroline, is that since Chocolate they've managed to keep a very very familiar beat. Like Matty doesn't even need to sing, musicially you know it's them

There’s something so sweet about the fact I’m watching a father and son listening to music, and the dad talking about how remembering his son in high school and then educating himself on how to understand him and this day and age. Like this so so wholesome and I love it
@@diether7 I think their first two albums were insane, and then they kinda fell off, kinda going down the “Eminem” route with the way his career and attitude went, but this album was a good solid return to form.
Matty and the drummer George do the entire production themselves, its actually a lot more George than anything else, dude is secretly a production genius They send it off for a master I think but that's about it, its all them
Though Jack Antonoff also helped produce this specific album and it shows with some of the instrumentality. Though yes big creds to Matty and George as well on the production side

Hey! I have some fun insights into the song "About You"! They are my favorite band of all time and About You has moved up pretty far in my favorite songs of all-time list. So, Carly (the girl who is the other vocals in the song) is the wife of Adam, one of the band members of the 1975. But the fun thing is, she’s never done any other music or songs professionally. Then Adam posted that story on the night of the release, and it’s the first time he’s ever posted about her/their kid. And she has sung her part only once live, in Toronto! Only after Matty constantly pestered her throughout the tour. ;)

Happiness strikes me as that song which best represents the 1975’s complex sound. Sax included, beautifully obnoxious lyrics (not so much in this track tho), that 80s sound. Of course they experiment much outside of this sound but hearing this track you instantly think THAT’S THE 1975. They are brilliant, I urge you guys to explore more of their records.
I went to my second 1975 concert on december 6th in denver, I’m also seventeen years old so it was a very emotional concert because of the opening track. I made a sign that said “I’m living and I’m seventeen!” Because despite how crazy this world is, everything i’ve been through, the nervousness about my future, I am happy to be alive and in this world
This album is amazing to me. It's not bloated, it's very sonically cohesive and all of the ideas presented musically and lyrically make sense. It all works together amazingly. I don't dislike any tracks on this album. There's maybe 2 or 3 that I don't prefer as much as the rest, but even those are good listens when they come up. I genuinely give this album an *8/10.* My favorite project of theirs to date. Also, on your own time, you guys NEED to check out the Official Live Performances of "Looking For Somebody", "Part of the Band", and "Oh Caroline." They're absolutely incredible. Truly.
Completely agree on “Oh Caroline” sounding like a Toto track. The chords feel very similar to Africa and you can hear it from the first listen. Great song
was feeling nostalgic since tour ended 2 weeks ago and i was lucky enough to attend the incredibly special closing night show, so even though i already watched this when it came out i like having these on in the background. when it came to about you & you guys talked about how it would be a great closing song my jaw dropped and it immediately took me back to that night cause they actually used it to close off the entire tour, even though they had not done that before the entire tour, and it was so so so special & emotional :')
This album will go down as a masterpiece in the next decade or so. It is truly their best work. I absolutely adore it. The aesthetic, the sounds, the instrumentation, the lyrics. The only other album to take me on a proper journey is American Idiot. I am always sobbing at When We Are Together, mainly for personal reasons and the attachment I have but everyone has their own reasons. Loved the video.
I saw them in Minneapolis and they closed their show give yourself a try from their album “a brief inquiry into online relationships!!” it was really interesting bc for the first half of the show they played the whole new album minus human too (they intermixed a few old songs in), they did this intermission method acting thing, and then did their greatest hits for the second half. It was super unique. If you ever have a chance to see them live I highly recommend it!!

The 1975 is pop done tastefully with excellent production and musicianship to boot. Matty is one of the best frontmen in music today. On another note: Highly recommend checking out young British rocker Sam Fender - a modern day Bruce Springsteen that is supremely talented and writes all his own songs.
This is easily their most concise and mature album, and maybe their best overall. This band has grown on me a ton. Went into their Portland show this year as a casual fan, and left a major fan. They sound insanely good live!
I‘m a huge huge The 1975 fan. My first tattoo was a the 1975 tattoo. Even tho I mostly listen to rap and other genres they give me a feeling I only get from their music. I startet watching you guys since part 1 of the To pimp a butterfly reaction and I am a patreon member for I don‘t even know how long now. This right here feels surreal watching you guys listening to the 1975 and it is the absolute best new years gift I could think about. I had a very very rough couple years and went through a lot of very dark times. Lately luckily things startet to get a lot better and I‘ve felt kind of happy again for a very long time. if i remember correctly the message of wintering is actually the opposite of what you two pictured it as. (i think they mention it on the spotify stories underneath the song) matty mentioned that despite the chaotic and clashing nature he finds comfort in seeing everybody together to celebrate christmas, but i also heavily agree with what you guys said as well one more thing i’ll add is if you ever show him Notes, he’ll be SHOCKED to hear People 😭

i've enjoyed The 1975 a lot in the past and when this dropped I listened to it half handedly and only saved a couple songs from it. Watching this reaction has made me realise how great it actually is and every song on here hits. Amazing video as always

the video is masterfully edited. You kept the parts of the song that the fans liked even you weren't making a comment etc. The editor knows their stuff on what to keep.

So cool to see this band reach all generations. I'm likely right in between your ages. It really is just music that makes you feel good. Like that line buried in the mix in "I'm In Love with You" after the bridge that says, "Everyone's having a great time!" That's what their music is. I've loved this band since 2013.

I saw them in Toronto in December and since their current tour is “BFIAFL & At Their Very Best” it’s essentially two shows in one. They closed the first portion of the show with “When We Are Together” and finished the show with “Give Yourself a Try” from ABIIOR. It was a beautiful experience, they are such great performers, and the album sounded just as amazing live! So glad you guys got to it 😊❤
Also, since you guys enjoyed this so much, I highly recommend checking out bleachers’ album “take the sadness out of Saturday night” Jack Antonoff is the frontman of Bleachers and he is the one who mixed/produced this album along with Matty and George!!
your dad is spot on! fun facts: when he said "fresh off the floor sound" he's so right. This album was recorded in jam-sessions, as opposed to their previous records focused on electronica in a studio. ALSO! Charli XCX and The 1975 are very intertwined. She started dating The 1975 drummer/producer after their song "Spinning" together. Also she's good friends with Matty. You'll hear some musical/technical parallels and its so fun.
Finally a 1975 album!!! It'll be weird to see someone's reaction to their work going in reverse. If he loves their poppy tracks he'll love their earlier work.
The 1975 is usually the Cheesecake Factory of 2010s Alternative Music. A bit of something for everyone to enjoy, but not everything is amazing. This album is definitely the anomaly. It feels like a like of passion and thought went into the production and songwriting of this project, I bet largely having to do with Jack Antonoff being involved in the process. Matty Healy seems to have his head all over the place when it comes to creating music which is why the 1975’s previous work is so inconsistent yet so endearing. Jack and George have seemed to keep the endearing aspects of the band while also nailing down on a consistent and cohesive sound, which is why this record is one of my favorites of the last year. I hope they can continue making records like this one. Glad y’all got to hear it!
The title must be one of the most interesting and funny titles that an album can have & the fact that this album doesn't even sound bad is just unbelievable with a title like that haha.
I think the title refers to how understanding jokes in a different language is the maximum level of understanding. It really shows in the album that they understand life better now and have matured.
I've been waiting for this!! One of my top albums of the year and one of the best from my favorite band! The 1975 make beautifully and THOUGHTFULLY crafted pop music! Loved this video so much! And yes u need to give the bass player (Ross) some love, he's an AMAZING bass player.
I don’t typically listen through whole albums maybe a song here or there and the rest are stinkers. This album does not have a bad song whatsoever and I can’t skip any when I listen to it. It honestly might be one of if not my favorite album.
