Yeah, I felt kinda bad for her tbh, wish she was treated better as a character. That said, I don't think she should've had Vhagar kill her, who knows, she may have been able to still give birth. But neither her or the child would've gotten the chance to live due to her decision.

@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 Daemon did not cut the baby out because he had two heirs and the doctor told him she would die anyway. Due to Rhaenys and Corlys he made the right decision. He said. "My brave girl" and not one tear. He sees a young Rhaenrya stitching up the boys neck and there's tears for the first time.
i think "Did your brother mention if this one also bares a marked but entirely coincidental resemblance to the commander of the city watch? Heh heh" is my favorite line in the franchise, definitely this show it's just delivered so hilariously
Daemon was jealous and Laena knew. She told Daemon that she knew she was not the wife he would have picked but she had made peace with it. Daemon's heart always belonged to Rhaenyra.
And in fact, this was the only time Daemon didn't do anything stupid, rushed or violent. He tried his best to be a husband and a father. With mixed results, but he really tried. Unfortunately, she died and Daemon was sucked back into the game of thrones
They were short lived on screen… but they were great to see together. That’s rare honest respect and admiration between a man and a woman on these shows
@@galinah.5273 I think they may be referring to books. They were much closer in the books and had a more interesting relationship than in the show's cut and edit version.
Harwin and Rhaenyra, Laenor and Rhaenyra, Daemond and Rhaenyra for a couple of episodes in season 1, Corlys and Rhaenys... Also, to be fair there is barely any respectful understanding between any characters (Even of the same gender) in this show, not just couples.

@@lisas3545 Rhaenyra and Laenor literally had one job and they fumbled it. Why would she reproduce with a guy who looks nothing like her official husband? Anyone with eyes and two brain cells could see that they weren't Velaryons. Even in the book, they're described as not having Valyrian features, but common pug-faced features. If she wanted to screw Harwin on the down-low, she should have used the moon tea so it would have prevented her three pregnancies. All Laenor had to was shoot a goalie and he would have had heirs. It's like he didn't even try. What also gets me is how entitled Rhaenyra is. She complained about her sex life with Laenor being bad, so she decided to get a side piece without even caring about her already precarious position as heir. Alicent was right. One illegitimate child is a mistake. Three is a mockery. It's also treason. When Aegon IV legitimized his bastards, it started a huge war.
@@lisas3545They absolutely could have still had children - in history there have been many, many nobles who has certain…non heterosexual tastes…and were still able to produce heirs. Even if Laenor absolutely couldn’t manage it, Rhaenyra could have at least found someone with more conspicuous Targaryen features.
When Daemon says "Laena" after she says that she knows is not the person he didn't wanted as a wife, he is actually devastated that she thinks like that. Yeah, he Loves Rhaenyra but he also loved Laena. Like he is desiring that it doesn't pain what he desires because ultimately, he cares so much for his Lady Velaryon.
Well, she wasn't wrong.... he loved Laena too but ultimately, he wanted Rhaenyra. If he had a choice, he would've chosen Rhaenyra. That said, the fact Laena has accepted that and still been a dutiful wife says a lot. She really was something.
Daemon told Rhaenyra that marriage was a "political arrangement." Dameon's first wife was arranged by his mother and not his own choice. After her death, Daemon attempted to take her lands and titles but failed because they did not have any children. Daemon married Laena but it was a political arrangement he made. She was the daughter of the richest man in Westeros with the largest navy. And, he had two children and one of the way, so that he would not have any trouble collecting wealth for Laena's children. When Laena mentioned Rhae has a son that was not his, Daemon showed jealousy. That's when Laena said that she was not the wife of his choosing and she's right. Also, while in a heated discussion about marriage, Rhae told her father "If it were for advantage, you would've married Laena Velaryon." They are finally together, but I am not looking forward to what's coming. They are already disagreeing and Daemon is losing patience with Rhae. She should have listened to him me thinks!
Too bad the Velaryons didn't see it that way. They accused Daemon of keeping Laena away from home due to selfishness but honestly a great decision. They had peace away from all the conflicts and had a more settled life.
@@lordalessan Yeah but Laena WANTED to come home, and Daemon denied her... Rhaenys said this to Corlys, and she wasn't wrong. Laena missed her family, Driftmark... her home. Come on man, everything Laena said here, and most of what Rhaenys said later on was right. They didn't necessarily have to deal with conflict had they returned with Laena still alive. Most of the unfortunate business that occurred on Driftmark happens in leu of Laena's death, not just because Westeros is necessarily always chaotic.
I think the saddest part (As in sweet sadnnes) of their relationship is that they were truly happy. According to Laena, Daemon has lost the fire. But I think that in reality he simply found stability with her, he stopped being brash because he found what he wanted. Plus having two daughters to take care of and a pregnant wife will surely make him unwilling to fight pirates just for the heck of it. He is not that different with Rhaenyra when they marry. Situation forces him to be violent. But he remains the same Dragon-nerd he is here, the thing is that with Syrax lying eggs he has chance of trying a different thing than just reading. Also he flies Caraxes just as well, if not better, than how he did it in the Stepstones. I think the real problem is Laena's own insecurity, that Daemon simply has no idea how to deal with. He does not seem overly obssesed with Rhaenyra or anything in the scene, nor regrets marrying Laena.
I don't think Laena is wrong about it. Daemon's been pushing for Rhaenyra since the beginning. Him not sleeping, not admitting he truly misses and loves his brother, not wanting to return home... why didn't he move the family back to Westeros, to Driftmark or Dragonstone? Just saying man... I don't think Laena's necessarily in the wrong here. She wanted to go home, and she's been with Daemon for years. She knows his habits and it's clear that he's not exactly all that happy. Even later on, when Rhaenyra asked if he loved Laena, all he said was "we were happy enough". Which to me, would mean that any of Laena's "insecurities" would be justified. They weren't a perfect match, but they did make it work. She just knows that if he had the choice, he'd have married Rhaenyra as his first choice.
@@thalmoragent9344 Fundamentally you are correct But I think that Daemon depsite being "happier" in Westeros....it makes him a worse person. Daemon fundamentally can't be happy anywhere. He yearns for something that does not exist..... yeah, like Viserys, he yearns for Valyria. He loves Viserys, but at the same time wants Viserys approval, yet he is not willing to change to win it. So about Rhaenyra, he DOES love her, but it is a TOXIC love. In the span of a day with Rhaenyra, he staged a murder, murdered an innocent, allienated one of his friends (Corlys) and gave extra trauma to Rhaenyra's kid, to whom Laenor was a very duitful man. I think that we are both right. I think tha tLaena grounded Daemon, gave him stability and a better mental place. And you are right about him really wanting OTHER things. But none of those things (Laena, Rhaenyra and Viserys) really made Daemon happy or "complete" Which perfectly encapsulates the "Rogue Prince"
@@facundogonza5740 Yeah, he wants to be himself, and still wants Viserys to love/accept him as is. He's a stubborn man, and yeah his love for Rhaenyra is indeed toxic. He wanted other things, but Laena was a solid person right there in front of him. Daemon wanted something, idealized a situation that would never truly be (something we can all learn from), he just was never gonna settle for what he had right in front of him. A flaw many people have, sadly enough Daemon wants it all but isn't willing to change for it. It's fine to want to be yourself, but you gotta accept that it comes with ups and downs
Absolutely. His wife is mistaking the reason he is sad. He isn't sad because he's not enjoying his life there, quite the opposite. He is reading, being with his family, and if it were up to him he'd never pick up his sword again. The reason he's sad is he has the foreboding dread that the other shoe is going to drop and he'll have to go back. He is finally content be he knows in the back of his mind it's short lived. Very tragic, and I think something most men (and women) can relate to. Modern example would be a guy who is good at his job and thrives during it, but deep down wants to do something else (or retire).
@@thalmoragent9344 I don't think that's it. I think his wife is misinterpreting his feelings. I think he actually loves his life there, but is dreading the future. You can see it in their conversation where he's basically like "can't we just stay here?" even though he knows that's not gonna happen. Daemon is trapped by his own idea of what his destiny is and his obligations.

She's loyal to him, and wants to support him, but she may have liked different parts of him than Rhaenyra does, even if both aspects can be found in younger Daemon. Rhaenyra may be less interested in being a "Dragonlord" than Laena, and it's clear she truly lives for this stuff, even more than other members of her family. Different in their own ways, ya know
Laena didn't want to "fix him", she liked the charm of Daemon being a Knight, Prince, and proud Dragonrider... all things (aside from being a Knight of course) that she shares with him. Laena just misses the old Daemon, where he was more passionate in life (well, for better or worse, depends on how you look at it)
Oh stop. Rhaenyra just loved him, so did Laena. Laena didn't want to ''change'' him and he wasn't actually a jerk to her, they were moderately happy. There's a difference between missing the old days or being frustrated by something and actively wanting to change one's partner. She just wanted him to get out of the castle more and maybe find a new interest/passion in life, or maybe she was just bored. Something tells me you're butthurt over being rejected by girls and justifying it to yourself that girls ''love bad guys'', no we DO NOT. We, adult women at least, absolutely do not have time or patience for this childish crap and do not want to mother our men and ''change'' them.
@@troyburnex Laena is not malicious person and she knows her brother's nature and character and probably loves Rhaenyra (in the script Lenor tells Rhaenyra that when they were children Laena always walked behind Rhaenyra), they grow up together after all.

But in the show they barely had a conversation, they mentioned each other's names in other scenes but were never in the same scene talking. Plus, it would have been a good build up to Laena's funeral to show how much it affected Rhaenyra

Princess is a title of inheritance by blood not by marriage the same way the royal family wives are called Dutchess not prince Harry and princess Megan. The children are given the title thanks to the fathers bloodline.
His sons wouldn’t be princes either. It’s very murky had he had children during jaehaerys realm there could be an argument for children being princesses and princes being male-line descendants of the reigning king. However, he had children during his brother’s reign they would be ladies of house Targaryen
Only why you can be prince or princess is only when you are either children of a king or grandchildren of a king . Hence, Prince Daemon and Princess Rhaenys also Rhaenyras boys. Rhaenyra became princess when her father became the king
Only males from the sovereign can technically pass on princely titles. Had daemon married laena while jaehaerys lived he could have made a case for them being princesses. But they were born when his brother was king

their relationship is way more grey in the show but is thinly implied he cared about her, in the book being with her was one of the few times Daemon was happy and at peace with himself, she loved her dragon just like Daemon and they flew all over the free cities together, they didnt stayed in Pentos either they lived in Driftmark and Rhaenyra and Laenor used to visit them and vice-versa, when she died 3 days later from childbed fever after giving birth to a malformed child she died looking for Vhagar to ride her one last time, Daemon carried her back to her bed and sat vigil over Laena body with Rhaenyra who was also a friend of Laena in the book
I think he genuinely cared for Laena and loved her as much as he could in capacity which is far less than she deserves.But like Alys Rivers said to him, when things doesn't go Daemon's way he escapes and living in Pentos was escaping from everything that he don't like - not having Viserys love and acceptance by his side, denied Rhaenyra's hand ( he didn't deserve her anyway at this point after ditching her in KL). When he left to Pentos with Laena he escaped so he don't see what he didn't like.Rhaenyra and Daemon's relationship is complicated and the link is Viserys.Laena is safe choice, there is no difficult feelings against her.Honestly Laena wanted a bad boy and Targaryen prince but after they married she got man-child who refused to face reality and because of this they spent decade like losers and not with her family.She was alone and bored with old grumpy kid.
