I've bought over 20 fixtures from China since 2014 for my cover band, most being 12 X 10W RGBAW Led Pars, I've had to replace a couple but 80% still running no problems. Loud fans not an issue in Bars and Clubs. A few points: 1) Almost all lights are made in China, even name brands. 2) Most name brands find lights they like at trade shows, buy in bulk and slap their name on them. Yes, they have better support and manuals, but sell for triple or quadruple the price. 3) Some factories even sell the same lights they sell to name brands to other resellers. Capitalism at it's best, move as much product as possible. Try and take them to court in China... So I could buy Chauvet Intimidator 350s or ADJ Focus 3Zs 100W LED moving heads for $800+ each or buy 4 similarly featured $200 no-name ones from AliExpress or Ebay for that same $800. It's a no-brainer, treat them as a commodity. If 1 out of 4 breaks, I'll get a replacement and still come out ahead. Also helps to be handy.

Friends and loved ones, If you can afford the name brand lights you'll be getting a more consistent product with excellent resale value and parts availability. Also you don't have to pay retail, in fact no one who buys in quantity pays retail price. At the end of the day, it's a tool and if the tool is accomplishing the demands you have, it's the right tool for the job. The whole made in china thing doesn't mean much. Like you say, they keep the factory rolling, in the morning they fill American DJs order, then they fill Elation Lighting and then they do Blizzard lighting and Mega Lite. Then the night shift is unbranded product sold to a bunch of others who rebrand it with random obscure brands. They might come from the same factory but they aren't built with the same parts or running the same software etc, each manufacturer has it's own specs and Quality Control. A 20% failure rate isn't unsubstantial to someone spending $100k on lights. Maybe it is for someone spending $2k. Big lighting rental companies are beginning to embrace unbranded products however they call the "generic" product by what it's copying, sharpy, atomic strobe, intimidator for example. So what would you rather have? If you know the actual supplier and have enough money you might be able to get an identical product but only for deep pockets not for small players. Personally, I find the brand name is better designed, performs better and is overall more desirable for me and my diverse client needs. If your lights don't have a brand name how are you going to get more of the exact same product or even recommend someone else buy it? Essentially I'm writing the same points I mentioned in the video. Everyone would rather have the brand name, not everyone can afford it and that's totally fine.

Also. The Martin MAC Viper profile and High end Solaframe 2000 have animation patterns on one of the gobo wheel similar.
@lostproductionspdx
@lostproductionspdx 4 года назад
Really is a lovely effect. To my knowledge the viper in particular has a full wheel that can continously rotate, this rotates back and forth on a section of the wheel. This allows the wheel to host some more fixed gobos. A great compromise in my opinion.

@@lostproductionspdx the viper performance has a continuous animation wheel. The profile has an animation pattern on the 3rd gobo wheel.

@@andrewgrindley6773 Gotcha! So it's very similar to this then, the back and forth on the wheel. Did not know that. I'm considering mythos for my next hyrbids, I can't afford mega pointes but they seem to be the most capable. Any other recommendations for a good hybrid fixture. Mythos is really heavy which is my biggest concern.

@@lostproductionspdx Check out the sharpy plus. It's got all classic hybrid features and weighs only 23kg.
@andrewgrindley6773
@andrewgrindley6773 4 года назад
@@lostproductionspdx I would say just continue saving money and go for the megapointes if you want a lightweight fixture with full colour mixing. Chauvet professional also has a new IP65 hybrid coming out which has a good zoom range but doesn't have an animation wheel or colour mixing (13 colours plus white on one wheel).

Thanks for the video! Trying to decide whether or not to get some lights like these. Just wondering where did you buy them from ad how long did shipping take? I went to their website but couldnt find where to buy them from. Thanks again!
@lostproductionspdx
@lostproductionspdx 3 года назад
To be honest it's been 4 years since they were purchased and I don't remember how long shipping took. As you know because of coronavirus shipping costs have skyrocketed for a multitude of reasons, US port and Chinese. You can message cherry@dagelight.com for ordering and quote info, she also commented on this video.

I appreciate that you review an alternative to the extremely expensive "original lights", thank you for that!! Just an update: in 2024, when looking to buy this light, I found nothing. In other words: seems like the company stopped selling/manufacturing this light, which makes this light suspicious. Would you mind doing a new quick review on this light, 3 years after the original review? Or at least tell us if 3 years after buying it, is it still alive?😅
@lostproductionspdx
@lostproductionspdx 4 месяца назад
The company has a similar model still available but likely they will stop manufacturing it soon. There are 3 models with different features. HM-3826 GM-3836 GW-4836 You will find them under spot moving head on their website.
@lostproductionspdx

The lights are still working after 6 years however they have needed parts and maintenance beyond what a normal person is likely willing to do. Higher quality moving lights will last longer but all will need regular maintenance and replacement parts after years of use.

The hotspot is a feature on most discharge lamp fixtures.
@lostproductionspdx
@lostproductionspdx 4 года назад
Thanks for the comment, yeah I was thinking this was isolated to cheaper units but was watching a recording of some Clay Paky mythos units and was somewhat shocked to see very similar on camera issues. I think it's these new short arc lamps in particular though that suffer from this. Knowing that, one could easily swap the fans in these for something quieter and they would be very close to their european competition.

@lostproductionspdx
@lostproductionspdx 4 года назад
@@andrewgrindley6773 you know what this Dage Unit might have a trick up it's sleeve to combat the hotspot. I think one of the gobos acheievs a "beam smoothing" like effect. I'll go test it out
@lostproductionspdx
@lostproductionspdx 4 года назад
I was wrong there's a gobo that effectively makes the hotspot brighter which can be very ueeful to maximize output. Playing with the unit I would say it's not unuseable on camera, it's just takes more work than an led sourced light for example.

You're pay more for a brand name when the brand is just buying the same lights from china (I'm looking at you Blizzard).

This is true you're paying more and you're getting, a warranty, a manual that's accurate and helps you use the product plus customer support and you're gettting product consistency when you buy more later on.
