What is pick stitching? You've probably heard the term before, but what exactly is it? And is it something you want on your suit?

Pick stitching is a stitch pattern that catches only a few threads of the fabric, and therefore only shows a little bit on the outside of the clothing.
With regards to men's suiting, we see pick stitching on the lapel, the pocket flaps, and the chest pocket detail. In addition, there can be pick stitching on the inside of a suit or sport coat jacket too.
Regardless of where you may find it on a suit, it's definitely a sign of a high-end suit. This is because it takes more labor than any sort of machine stitching. And because it's made by hand, there can be a slight variation in both stitch length and alignment with each adjacent stitch.
The takeaway is that pick stitching is very much an accent on a fine custom suit or jacket. Very good pick stitching can be very subtle.
Remember, you don’t want your pick stitching to stand out too much. Instead, it should accent your already awesome suit or jacket!
