Seth, the 1080 v11 resets my gold standard of running shoes. I adored the Nike Epic React and this New Balance is just as good maybe better. The upper and midsole reigns as the near perfect shoe for me.
Heel slippage is horrible on these. I thought it would go away after a few break in runs but it didn't. Tried playing with the laces and nothing works. That heel is pretty bad especially if you have a large heel. No support back there.
just hit 400 miles in this shoe. feels lighter than it is and is great for any training day. feels absolutely great out of the box. started losing its bounce for me at about 250 miles (though i am 190 lbs)
QD: watching the Boston Marathon every year with my dad since I was a little kid! I grew up in the area and the race coincides with a school vacation, it was an amazing tradition and memory for me. It is my goal to run Boston one day and my dad can watch me race!
My favorite running tradition is running the Salvation Army Santa Shuffle every year near Chritmas. It was my first official 5k race since I started running and also a great and fun family event. I ran it last year as a virtual run but on the same route as usual and wearing my Santa's hat, Shuffle 15th anniversary shirt and red plaid pj bottoms!
Favorite running tradition: doing a race or two with my mom when she's in town :) DC is such a great town for road races and it's really fun to connect with my mom through running and doing races together. This is definitely one of the things I miss most during the pandemic. We're signed up for the DC Rock and Roll Half in the fall and I really hope we're able to do it.
So I have several shoes with the ASICS gel cumulus being my newest. I bought the nimbus and returned it because too cushioned. I used my 1080s today which are about 5 months old and I mainly used it for work. I used it to run a light 2 miles and it was ridiculously fast and and so comfortable. I should keep using this shoe because the gel cumulus seems slow and the vision actually bottoms out for me on some strides and my heels feel it big time
parkrun on Christmas Day in the UK has been good for the last few years. Missed it officially in 2020 but I went anyway around the same time in my parkrun 100 t-shirt and saw lots of parkrunners
Seth, I hear what you are saying about long-runs, that "maybe it feels like you are working harder because the mid-sole is so soft." I approach it from the other direction, being a runner in my 40s and not so concerned with speed, I want maximum shock-absorbtion for my long-runs. Since I am going to be putting up more miles, I want to protect my ankles, knees, and hips. Agree with you about the lock-down though, because the upper is so flexible it is hard to get it snug without being constrictive.
Best tradition for me is a Turkey trot with entire family. Been doing this every year for more than a decade. Virtual this year but still going strong.
I was debating between getting these and the novablasts. Went for the novablasts as I got them for €95. Did a short 10k run in them today and they are good
Thanks for the review, i've been using the 1080 for 3 years and have no regrets. I just bought another pair of 1080 v10 because i found them for $100. $149 is steep for a trainer shoe that hasn't changed much.Until recently i've used the shoe for everything, 5k to marathon. the v8 and v9 are extremely durable, i could get 500 miles out of them. The v10 , not so much, basically get 300 miles, thats it. i weigh 155 lbs. I'll try try to send pics on facebook later. And favorite race is with family.....turkey trot in Branford CT.
My favourite running tradition occurs during the last week of every year. In that week, I sketch out a rough schedule for the year, review the training diary for things to do or avoid in the following year, reread Pat Jordon's biography of Steve Prefontaine and rewatch Fire on the Track. Oh and watch a tone of youtube running videos.
Quite excited to add this in future to my running shoe rotation. Always loved the 1080's, but after the V10 had a super start. They don't feel that super anymore after 400km. Not really any tear, but I seem to have always little issues lately with them. Seems the v11 has some good updates towards that. So will probably only use the V10 for easy starting from now
Had 2 V9s ans 3 V10s... and now the first Paur of the V11. BEST Daily Trainer out there. You gave up way to early on the V10! The Sole didn‘t change...
Running since April 20' so no yearly traditions yet. I'm going to make one out of the local Tucson marathon every December. I hope to be 1/30 of the DGR family who gets to come over and geek out over the boston marathon. That'd be an awesome tradition!
Not sure why Seth didnt like the V10 but mid and outsole is the same as v11. Possible current workload when he reviewed v10 affected his feel but any BS about scientifically changing the midsole is some marketing BS. Save some money and buy the v10. Seth is a year late to the 1080 hype train, every other reviewers (PARKS, KOFUZI, HELLER, FOD, JAMIE) have all been telling us how great the 1080 is for a year. For me the rocker is what makes the shoe, heel to toe transition is just butter perfect for progression runs when you want to get to tempo paces toward the end.
I went up half a size on these. Width was good on my thick feet but toes were nearly touching the end. I got good lockdown and no heel slip. Felt really comfortable and energetic on a recovery 5k. Vitality discount on runners need got me these for
I got the v10’s with about 520 miles on them and the outsole/midsole still feel good! I have another pair waiting for me so I’m retiring them but I could easily go another 50-100 miles! I’m about 5’11-150lb and land on the outside of my forefoot
QD. Traditions include watching major running events including all Olympic events past, present and future. I hope to run Boston myself in Oct for the first time and humbly hope that might become a tradition too! Martha
Yes Seth just got this shoe, and im having problems with the lockdown. Because ive got the laces so tight it's very uncomfortable across the top of the foot. Ive been for a couple of runs and things have improved somewhat.
It’s gotta be having a nice big cup of black coffee and then a successful bathroom trip Pre run. Once those two boxes are checked, it’s almost a guarantee to be a good run day!
these shoes take homely to a new level..they make hokas look like the pretty girl at the prom...all in the eye of the beholder of course but to me ,they look like someone designed these while on a bad acid trip..the looks alone are a big part of why i'd send these back.. the ride is decent, springy and soft but not mushy like a hoka.. some energy return here..they fely sweaty and hot though with minimal use, like there was poor ventilation..there has to be shoes with similiar ride that are not this bad looking...
Yo Seth I’m a tad late to the v11 party but the SHOEDIO is still rockin’ so I won’t bother knockin’ I’ll just come on in! I have an affinity towards daily trainers in white colorways (they age rough and tough) so I picked up the ladies’ size 10.5 in the white with the neon green “N”. My narrow heel is absolutely loving the lockdown. Yes it’s true it doesn’t initially feel locked in but when I crank up the pace my heel stays rooted. My morning miles has a new member in the crew. And heck yeah this heel flair takes the cake. The v12 will have a more traditional take on it like the current Vongo 5. Nothing last forever especially in the running shoe world.
@@JG-nx3jg surprised no purchased from a well known company but they don’t deal with a lot running gear so don’t think they knew what the had so we’re heavily reduced
I've got a pair of the V11's, early days (only 20 miles in them) but so far I'm finding them much better than the Peg 37 for an all-rounder/daily trainer, more toe-box room, more comfortable, loving the ride. However, 170€ from the New Balance website, they seem more expensive in Europe than in the US...
@@suspicionofdeceit Right? That's never happened to me or her before (her previous shoes were Brooks), but it happens to her every time with the new shoes! Must be the material they use. Like running in a wool sweater. 😆
I'm pretty sure the midsole is the same as in the 1080v10. I tried them both on in store recently and they felt exactly the same. The salesperson also told me so and I read the same thing on various blogs
In regards to heel flair, I found it does not provide much benefit. The only thing I care about the heel area is that manufacturers stop putting sharp plastic cups in the heel area which can press against the Achilles, causing blisters and inflammation. I contacted a few about it and I get the impression that it enhances shoe longevity. As a runner, the midsole and outsole wear down long before any component of the upper. I think they use plastic cups to make running shoes long-lasting of non-runners or intermittent runners. I could be wrong because I'm not an expert. The reason I watched this video is because I believe this newbalance does not have that sharp plastic heel cup. I may pick it up; thanks for the video.
My 1080v10 has had over 1000km with no signs of rubber wear. The durability test used by reviewers.. Humm. Perhaps this should be based more on foam degradation vs the rubber wear. I don’t think I have ever worn out the rubber on any shoes after running 1000-1500k on them. I would like to see you throw on the v10s and do a comparison video!!! A lot of the original reviews said the foam was the same, to me it looks like a change in eyelets near the collar and change in upper.
I personally do not feel the "extra" cushion of the 1080v11. I can't even SEE the sole squeeze as much when I'm running with these. I'm wondering if it's just me or it's a faulty piece. To compare, I also have Hoka Mach 5 and those are a treat to my feet.
late but I just picked up a pair of these super cheap. Thought about a 2nd pair but that heel counter makes me feel naked. It's "ok", but I won't buy another.

Compare to the Mach 4 please. I’m turned off by the rear midsole heel extension in the HOKA but curious which shoe you’d choose between the two for longer runs. Martha PS I don’t like the extreme heel collar flare. A subtle one does the job well enough, a good example being the Brooks Hyp. Tempos. The additional extension does nothing functionally and looks icky IMHO.
I have had the v11 for 2 weeks it’s great. Actually fantastic. It’s very cushioned yet responsive. Ran an 18 mile long run in it and it felt just great. Can you tell I like it?
Is “energy return” good for your knees for the long term? Probably no because that recoil from the foam will damage your joints; however, it will probably help you run faster and longer
@@nathanmedlam8988 Yeah, I settled on the Clifton 7's. I liked the cushion and overall feel of the 1080's better, but the heel thing was a deal breaker. I'm glad I'm not alone!
@@fractal0243 I’d heard really good things about the v10s from Ben Parkes. I’ve got some zoom fly fly kits and have no issues with them because they don’t have a solid heel
I consider my foot to have volume and these I gray color, while look awesome, are waiting to be returned. The pressure against the top of the foot, in the upper right corner of the “N” was just too scary to consider running in them and then be stuck with this pair.
