The funny thing about the Fallen looking like a Bionicle is that in 2009, Bionicle also spent most of its runtime in a desert, and the villain looked basically exactly like the Fallen, right down to being a tremendous disappointment when the fight finally happened.
People compare The Fallen to Tuma, but I honestly see more of Vezon in him. He wields a staff of unexplained origin and power, is connected in some way to a (presumably) life-giving artifact, has quite likely been driven mad with power, and sort of appears out of nowhere. All he needs is a tattered cape and a giant biomechanical spider to ride around on and you're basically there. Dude even has a removable face/mask!
I don't really like robots that turn into other living creatures (except for Grimlock) but, yeah, now I find myself looking around for places to pick up stupid robot fire dragon...
47:18 I screamed in joy, replayed the moment, screamed again and cheered. As a HUGE fan of both Bionicle and Transformers, hearing those words is the best thing ever. And the little "Hiya!" right before it was adorable. XD
Everyone thought Starscream was just going to be a retool of the Deluxe toy because of the nearly identical engineering and several parts looking basically the same, but seeing that it's genuinely a Voyager Class figure that just uses an upscaled and modified version of the same engineering is wild. I can't wait to get it! I just wish he had at least one Mini-Con port, even if it was inactive. EDIT: I'm surprised they gave us an entirely new mold of Rumble when we already had a serviceable one to begin with. But I'm probably going to get it anyway despite having the Generations Selects version already. EDIT AGAIN: HOLY CRAP, the Transmetal 2 Megatron uses a hybrid of the transformations of his original toy and the Beast Machines versions? That's REALLY extra!
We thought that starscream was going to be a retool. because historically jhiaxus was a retool of him. That may even have been the intent at one point. but the engineers have been pushing hard for new molds. Both Cosmos and Override were intended to be remolds until the engineers promised to keep costs down on their new molds.
@@Lazrael32 I don't remember a lot of people thinking Armada Starscream would be a retool of Jhiaxus, because it doesn't look like him at all. It looks almost the same as his Thrilling 30 toy, though. It's pretty obvious they started there and made changes to make it more accurate, then scaled it up.
6:49 Fun Fact: They actually redid the Star Saber with the Mircomasters in Siege. Well, two thirds So for people saying the Legacy one is too short (because it is) Here you go
The weird stick-uppy headlights on Dead End represent the flip-up headlights on the Porsche 928! They look super freaky when they're actually flipped & facing forward, like a megaphone with a light bulb on the end tacked on top of the fender.
In the other room, making a sandwich, hearing Thew's lovely brogue dissolve into the harshest rendition of "Ass-to-Ass" and all the visuals it instantly conjures, literally made me drop my mustard. 10/10, Well Done.
The “overly complicated transformations” thing reminds me of why I love fans, hobby so much. Despite being masterpiece scale robots, their transformations are surprisingly simple. Especially their recent armada Optimus and Megatron. There’s also that 3P Cybertron Optimus that keeps its transformation very simple. More of that, please.
For the rumble in frenzy red v blue. The way I’ve chosen to cope with it, is that in universe. The two of them regularly switch paint job on purpose just to create confusion. As in even the Decepticons have the red vs blue debates. Only ever Soundwave know which is which but he’s completely apathetic to stop his spoiled gremlin childrens shenanigans.
I FINALLY found a copy of TM2 Megatron, and I love it so much! The way his dragon claws wrap around his chest is incredible, because the original toy barely looked like the actual show model. but the Legacy toy actually recreates his show appearance really well and leaves out the useless third mode that is "a dragon dragging its butt across the carpet like a dog with worms."
We fully stan a beautiful TF content creator who doesn't rely on stolen figs for clout, doesn't lie about partnering with Hasbro and gets sent legit presents from Hasbro! We stan the king! (No shade on anyone in particular here. Just love a wholesome TFtuber)
4:23 The Porsche 928 (Dead End's vehicle mode) had headlights like this in real life. They flipped forward to point straight when they were turned on. ;)
16:56 Actually that somewhat makes sense for me. If you are aware that some cars are actually robots in disguise, you would expect them to actually be in disguise. Then you see a concept Chevrolet Corvette that looks like a spaceship and think "nah that's too obvious". And then they have fooled you.
Dead End is based on a Porsche 928. The headlights look like they just point straight up because it's mimicking the real car's frog-eye style pop-ups, but in the closed position.
You definitely won't be disappointed if/when you combine Legacy Menasor. Such a great figure in hand (heavy, sturdy and just plain pleasing to behold), but there's no harm in keeping them separated either as they look just as good, so you do you (Thew do Thew?).
SS tlk hot rod is probably my current favorite figure from SS, hes very fun, on top of being both simple and complicated at the same time, i was surprised at how cleanly it changes from jaggedy robot man to slick car, with good QC to boot!
"Shouldn't they outnumber the good guys?" thats where we get our nameless goons, in G1 they were various genericons and pallet swaps, some of which were made into characters in their own right, the first army of drones was the insecticon replicas, Masterforce played into the idea of a drone army with their take on the seacons, which was later made a mainstream concept with the Vehicons, who were later re-imagined in transformers prime, while no longer drones they still served the role of Decepticon Stormtroopers, the armada game also had "Decepticlones" as their disposable goons, and so thats how the writers get around it.
'he cares not for subtlety' to be fair i think this line applies to hot rod him self as well. Skullgrins vehicle mode looks like some kind Cybertronian artillery piece.
I know Thews vids are sometimes few and far between compared to other reviewer channels. But when they are released. They hold me over because they always fn deliver. Especially these nice long vids. Puns will Never get old. Because of him and Shart I’m into transformers now. And I hate them both 😂
I was sorta on the fence about TransmetalII Megatron but I gotta say your enthusiasm just sold me one. So, kudos Hasbro, your plan worked! And all I get out of it is an awesome robot dragon toy.
Sureshot for sure. My mom got him for me on one of my b-days, I remember because she hardly every got me toys, you know clothes, shoes etc etc. I put him in vehicle mode, pull the legs down partially, hold in the big wheels, push legs back up, squish the abdomen section, and fold the wheels under (back to future style). Which gave him and extra hover car alt mode. Played with him a lot, a fav.
The fact Thew got on a Hasbro Pulsecon stream as a presenter is just seriously moving up in the world. I wonder how subscriber stuff has done following that.
I always felt the Decepticons being bigger, airborne and usually straight warriors gave them the advantage over the Autobots who were made up a lot of scientists and engineers, with a few actual warriors peppered in like Sideswipe, Sunstreaker and Jazz. It gave you a sense that they weren't fighters when the war started, and the Decepticons had the upper hand.
I absolutely love the Dragon Megatron too Thew. Apart from 2 minor aesthetic issues, it is an absolute BANGER. Probably my favorite Legacy figure so far…
I love that you love Skullgrin even if his Alt-mode is a just a brick with guns! PrimeVsPrime was poo pooing it for that and not being a Core Class like his fellow pretenders, but his original Alt-mode was also a tank/brick.
Transmetals II Megatron looks like if the word "RRRRAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGHHHHH" came to life and listened to Eye of the Tiger for 500 hours while destroying an entire gym
That Screamer makes me really want Armada Cyclonus and Demolishor. I want my idiot-rigade with good posing! And Skullgrin just looks like silly fun. Thd best fun. And like a Cyber-demon from Doom.
Hasbro did themselves a favour sending you these goodies to you, Thew. I have been successfully influenced, a family member asked what I wanted for christmas and I asked for this megatron. I was not dissappointed. Thanks for the great videos
8:19 Thew just said what I've been thinking for years! That being said I do miss that brief moment in 2008 when we got some nice Ultras from the universe line. Nicely sized with some mild electronics! Well I was on the fence about Transmetal 2 Megatron but you convinced me to buy it.
My Targetmaster of choice is Scoop for the Autobots and Triggerhappy for the Decepticons, love 'em both. Skullgrin is so daft, but I can't wait for when they do Octopunch!
When thew said soundwave was God tier, we all know he shouldve said superior. But also since Hasbro always listens to thew, thew should tell hasbro to make a good aoe scorn
On the one hand, Studio Hot Rod is slick; blows the original toy release to the moon. On the other hand, those panel lines are REALLY HARD to ignore. On the other hand, I could get used to them. The lines give the car an unintended Tron/Cyberpunk feel for me. It wouldn't blend on Earth, but it would rule the streets on Cybertron.
the actual porhche dead end is based on has the headlight pop up. Its really cool, they sit super flush and nice when down, but then they pop up to perfect little circles!
I do wonder if we’ll see the armada starscream repaints, thundercracker was starscream with a new coat of paint and skywarp needs a new head and character. Dragon megatron looks real nice and hopefully a cryotech comes out cause the blue would look amazing
Transmetal 2 Megatron was one of the earliest Transformers toys I remember getting, so I'm definitely gonna try and go out of my way to get that guy. It's funny that I owned that figure, but I never really watched Beast Wars, and only vaguely remember Beast Machines.
Ironhide: I'll admit, he is tempting. But I'm gonna wait for Ratchet. Not sure why I like him more. Could be the head, maybe I played as him in the old WFC game a lot. The Fallen: I never thought he looked like a bionicle until you said something. Good lord, he does bare a strange resemblance to The Makuta.
