When I was talking with my wife about Siege Astrotrain and how his guns don't suit gum she pointed out how I describe him as more a weary logistics guy and suggested the guns are for other cons. He's doing his job. I find that figuring quite satisfying.
The fact that you have a wife that can talk transformers with you is amazing, I wish my fiancé would watch the movies with me, don’t fuck it up brother she a keeper
I absolutely love the extra guns. They help flesh out some of the loose figures I have that don't have proper guns. Very helpful as well when you're outfitting your figures with loads of weapons for shots.
I've been begging for a real dedicated figure for her from ANYONE that isn't a hard to get half-assed Blurr retool. Even none of the third parties have touched her, fingers crossed on Mastermind Creations eventually getting to her in their Reformatted line since IDW style is basically the point of that line.
@@itsahostiletakeover I would also like a core/Iron Factory one... hell, Hasbro waited 'till IDW lost their licence to finally give us IDW Blurr and Tarn! Maybe it's about time! Actually, nevermind that... If hasbro was to do a Nautica, she'll probably be a half-assed retool...
Y’know, it’s funny, I recently (finally) picked up a Siege Astrotrain for myself, and it landed in my possession a little over a week ago, and as I cracked open the damaged box and started playing with it and doing the alt modes, sometimes I like watching videos tangentially related to the new toy I’m handling, so I put on the Astrotrain video from five years ago and found myself wondering if it would ever get a sequel. And here we are!
To give even more credit to Thomas is the decal on it's side (see 36m50s) which is the door that Starscream used to boot Megatron out into space during the OG Transformers movie. Truly a beautiful action figure. Thanks Thew
Love the vid. Love they felt like four full reviews sharing the stage (with some filler acts) instead of lightly trimmed synopses. Thank Primus Hasbro remembered Galaxy Shuttle, since it's become law Astrotrain isn't allowed to be pretty anymore. I hope they keep bringing him back just because.
When Thew finds a disappointing official figure, I just can HELP but feel the sadness, the emptiness and the unsatisfactory that we can't even beat them with a hammer like a knockoff.
I won’t be satisfied until an Astrotrain toy can hold all of the deceptions and a fully formed Devastator but is only as tall as siege megatron in robot mode…
I still respect Dropkick as the con with the greatest surface area to decepti-badge ratio. He doesn’t have as much space for one as Astrotrain, but he gives as much as he can.
I've seen his G1 version in random places at times. But my first was the Classics 2007. That figure was great. It was like team bullet train. But I didn't really get much rid 2001 stuff.
... You know, I suddenly want a Sodor Blue version of Thomas with a much more cheerful robot mode face. Same helmet, same everything. Just blue, and smiley.
Idk what Shattered Glass Astrotrain looks like, but in my head at this moment he wears this look. Big and blue and cheery just doing his best to be a Really Useful Decepticon.
I'd love to see a video about Thew's favorite toys, just like his top 10 of all time. He has so much fun quippy stuff to say about the one character I can only imagine what he could say about a whole lineup.
I remember one of the first times I saw Astrotrain was when he was escaping from a volcano on an alien planet. When asked what the aliens were supposed to do without him, he just bellows "DIE, LIKE THE WORMS YOU ARE" and fucks off into space. He legit made going "aw no im getting the fuck outta here" sound badass.
WFC Astrotrain takes to paint really, really well. I hit the exterior edges of the detail in trainmode with a metal-silver gundam marker and it looks incredible. You just have to have a light touch and not overdo it.
The funny part of the armada toy was that I believe the colour scheme was originally destined for a figure known as “space warp” so the figure technically is a Skywarp however space warp has the original jetfire head
There was already an Armada Skywarp, which predates Spacewarp. Spacewarp (along with repainted Space Mini-Con Team) was supposed to be a Universe store exclusive which didn't pan out (because no store wanted it). FunPub tried to revive it, but because Hasbro didn't have the trademark for Spacewarp at first, the toy became Astrotrain (the Space Mini-Con Team was replaced with a repaint of the Giant Planet Mini-Con Team because, according to Takara, all the Armada Mini-Con molds became worn out/unusable).
The "exploded on ignition" line reminded me of something Dusty Rhodes said to Jim Cornette after a promo taping: "Don't joke about the Challenger, kid."
Armada Astrotrain is incredible. I love that giant-ass Decepticon badge, and it makes me realize how much I miss light and sound gimmicks in mainline figures. Bangin' video as always!
Glad you called out how good together Cyberverse Astrotrain and Dead End were. Since the show ended it’s been all about Dead End/Perceptor among the fans, but i for one love Dead End and his massive boyfriend who he flies around and bickers with. I think their favorite activity is going to parties and standing in the corner ruining the vibe.
Great video! I got the Earthrise release of Siege Astrotrain, and his problems aren't lost on me, but something about a Transformer that's a full steam engine with a tender makes me very happy with him.
If I remember correctly, the original Galaxy Shuttle toy was one of the Japan exclusives retooled by the Brave series, as the Yellow Ranger's Zord from "Brave Command Dagwon". His new name in that series was Dag Thunder, and he combines with other components to form Thunder Dagwon.
Didn't know Galaxy Shuttle coming back was a thing. As a part-timer TF fan, I can always rely on Thew to enlighten me on the pulse of the TF fandom and industry.
I'm not surprised, it barely made it to retail in the first place. It's right there with Cosmos and Hot Rod in terms of ridiculous scarcity outside of a handful of foreign markets, and if you're in the US, it has the Netflix Soundwave problem of "Sold out at preorder and then never made it to actual stores and never got restocked online".
I have always thought it would make more sense for Astrotrain to be just as big as Jetfire in g1 because they basically severed the same purpose for there respective sides of the war
FT Thomas is the figure I show off to normal people. What’s wild is that going from bot to shuttle reveals almost nothing about how he also turns into a train. That round up being such a neat reveal for whoever I’m showing it to.
When I was a kid, I had that astro sinker sub minicon in different colours, presumably a repaint or a different character. It was dark gray and blue. Loved it to death! No clue where he came from
Armada Powerlinx Jetfire was probs one of my most played with Transformers toys, as a kid - it’s just The Perfect Toy - I honestly rarely even ever combined it with Optimus, he was too good on his own
I think I speak for most of us when I say we’re here for you more than the transformers, Thew. More frequently released shorter episodes is just more of what we’re here for!
Is it just me, or the best Astrotain ever remains the G1 original? Simple transformation, perfect train and shuttle mode, and the bot ain't so bad for the times.
This is such a great video for so many reasons. Mainly, I love how excited you get talking about a character you love, which re-reminded my why I love Transformers so much. Superb job!
Aww~ Such a missed opportunity not using your “Choo Choo, Thomas! Woo Woo!” song during the FansToys review’s transformation sequences. Beyond that, I thoroughly enjoyed this video; it is structured beautifully.
I never picked up the WFC Astrotrain figure because he's just so dark...but I do love the redeco into Victory Shuttle. He looks so good in all three modes, a rarity for a triple changer.
My G1 and 3P Legends (I call them micro-scale) shelves are now one and the same. I bought the MFT Astrotrain and Octane to go with my G1 Blitzwing and you can't friggin' tell.
Thanks to how Seige, ER. And legacy, I love mech fan toys (or whoever made it) Ironsky. Picked it up with their thunderbird and Posoin. Absolutely love the lads
Man, I wish I had a quarter of your enthusiasm for Galaxy Shuttle, it just didn't click with me. You're also making me regret getting rid of the Armada Jetfire repaint, that's such a nice toy.
i think galaxy shuttle wears the mold much more successfully than siege astrotrain. the velocitron collection is primarily about just giving us neat new toys, compared to the very publicized intent of siege being “realistic” and serious in space. the very earthly train mode feels more at home when it’s not trying to pretend it’s extraterrestrial in origin.
I’m still waiting for my FT44-Thomas reissue, it’ll be released sometime in March this year. I’ve managed to source a spare piece of track (which is also a flight stand) and I’ve bought the upgrade kit which includes a tender and new rifle.
I really just want a commander class Astrotrain, massive train nerd and I love Astrotrain as a character. Like how he had bad eye sight in the comics and needed goggles to see far and possibly even glasses of some sort
I kinda want to get Thomas and display him with the afterburners in place of the hands, like he's a cybertronian stylist giving another transformer a blow-dry.
For a split second I thought the shirt said "Palm Beach" in the Purple Rain font and had a mini-stroke trying to figure out what Prince had to do with Florida
What makes earthrise astrosquad amazing is how it's the perfect compliment to stratosphere! It's like it was made to be a piggy back shuttle on the raddest cargo plane alt mode
Hell, yeah! Excellent review! Thank you! Out of all of those, that Thomas looks amazingly good! And cripes, I miss Wispas -- and it's only been two months since I was last home in England . . . .
