@@stevehowes2064 interesting thanks for sharing. I'm a fan of Sean, but I could also see his behavior being a problem with a bunch of other fighters. It doesn't matter enough to me to dislike either of them
@@stevehowes2064 Is it bad to warn the next gym about a gym bully? Sean does that shit all the time. Will go harder than training partners in the gym. Talk massive shit while doing so. Why is it bad to warn a friend/colleague about a shitty person?
Feel like Daniel Cormier and Frank Mir both changed their fighting styles to try and mimic Hendo (wrestler/grapplers who fell in love with the overhand right).
@@Carnage-Pepe what's your point? When he began his professional career, he was fighting in open weight promotions. One has nothing to do with the other.
I met Dan Henderson back in 2017 at a bellator event in San Jose he was so awesome he treated me like an equal he was not arrogant or egotistical one of the best he’s awesome
He beat bustamante for UFC middleweight champ in pride fc. And he beat Carlos Newton in pride former UFC welterweight champ. Alot of people don't know this.
Dan mentioning how Strickland seems to be putting more on his strikes makes me notice it now. He definitely puts more powerful shots through more often now, and honestly I think that’s what’s helped his improvement a lot this year
@stuartmccleary1093 he's more confident in taking .11 seconds longer in his delivery to add extra umph to Izzy who is much faster but not as quick under constant pressure with his long limbs.. This is what makes mma awesome.. The only physical disadvantage you have age, testosterone and injury prone, body types always has it's strengths and weaknesses.. Silvas long legs had limitations to how hard he could kick as it takes longer to wind-up
Sean needs to start a bullying business for adults to help then change for the better. Sean is like the voice in your head when you smoke weed and that voice kicks in telling you all the things you need to change or handle in your life
Brooo, " the voice in your head when you smoke weed and that voice kicks in telling you all the things you need to change or handle in your life" that really hits home
@@DeadFront1319 I know, I know. Kevin was also the main character in Here Comes the Boom. And he's not bad at all! He was a wrestler in high school and Mick foley, yes Mick Foley, was in his same team!
@@lyleburlingame2276 at worst it was a draw but I had two 10-8 rounds myself. One was borderline but no way the rounds where bisping pitter patters around is equal to the 2 rounds Hendo dropped and nearly finished him.
His defense and focus during that fight was no joke you saw even the regular banter disappeared, He focused up and every attack he was presented with was a great response by strickland. not to stroke anyone but that fight was entertaining and to see Sean fight the way he did and not prance around like a little fairy make me all the happier.
Hendo is an absolute legend. Hope to meet him someday. I went to Temecula a couple times to train with him and one of the times I missed him by like 5 minutes
I meet him several times while he was still in Pride... Him and Matt Lindland would put on Sportfight events all over in the northwest. He did one event at a Indian Casino in Rural Oregon it was the same night the TUF finale that had Ed Herman (2nd season i think) anyways after the show and the Finale I saw him his ex wife and daughters in the casino eating I was a obvious mark but did not want to bug him with his family but after he was done eating he came over and asked how I liked the show and when I told him i had hurried back to my hotel room to watch the TUF finale he spent 20 minutes talking about it, of course took pictures but the convo I had with the man made me a diehard Hendo fan for life just truely a great dude.
If you can get some work at Morongo casino @ the poker room . You can see him there occasionally. On his birthdays he sometimes pays to have a poker game brought to his casa. Best of luck catching him around next time brotha !
@@wildriftprofessor1782it could be a what happens in the gym stays in the gym type thing and hendo is just saying generally nice things. It's like when fighters literally always say they had a good camp even though the whole team knows it was a disaster. Alot of bs surrounding gyms and teams
Why do you got to say brutally honest, when Dan is just informing you what he believes is the truth. Brutally honest is a dumb term. If anything that term should be associated with lying; you’re a brutal liar.
Trained at Hendo's gym in Temecula from 2006-2011 - I remember seeing Sokodjou, Rampage Jackson, Mayhem Miller, Ryo Chonan, Vinny Maghaelea and many more in the pro class...It was a hell of a good time!
You must not be a slouch yourself. Hendo is married to a friend of mine’s daughter. I’ve hung out with him a few times. Extremely down to earth. Great guy.
@@alanratay4583 I WAS no slouch. My body is in utter shambles now from going 110% in training 100% of the time - fighting submissions I should have just tapped to, training through injuries, throwing power punches non stop on the heavy bag. I used to rep 135 curling, now I can rep 30lbs, cannot raise my left arm over my head without severe pain, use a special pillow to sleep, bulging disc, and the list goes on lol. If I could tell young fighters one thing it would be "Go light in training, every injury now permanently degrades your capability in the future."
He's known for the big overhand right, but he also has a tremendous left hook. Greco Roman and Folkstyle wrestling pedigree. Dirty Boxing and Ground and Pound master. Underrated threat with the guillotine, he may not be known as a submission artist but he knows how to threaten with guillotines to control a fight. A great inside leg kick, he's no kickboxer, but he has mastered getting into punching range and off balancing strikers when they kick him. A simplistically complete fighter. Truly up there with Randy. They were both master tacticians.
I loved that moment Dan had with Bisping where Mike said “the belt is staying with me” and Dan replied “they’ll send me a new one”. The H bomb was a bit much tho
@@bigben42 i found that out right after lol silva got a nice h bomb as well lol i like how he straight up jumps on people, his mid air pose looks funny but scary lmao
Now that Xtreme couture has a champion once again think Dana could ever let the past go & allow Randy Couture to come back to UFC events man is a legend of the sport 👏
Bisping was talking mad shit before the fight like wouldn't shut up and didn't stop with the insults. I would have smiled too, if I was in the same situation. I bet if bisping would have kept it respectful before the fight, Dan wouldn't have followed up with the unnecessary shit and he wouldn't have smiled, that big. I digress, it was one of the defining moments in the UFC.
Dan is by far one of my absolute favorite guys ever to fight. Not many people know what a badass he is. My hands down favorite fight was him knocking out Fedor. I've met Dan personally one of his ex-girlfriends was my pool partner many moons ago. He's an awesome guy.
Sparring is the way to go, put it this way: If you spar only on Fridays like most gyms do, you will have 52 days of sparring within a year If you train 5 days a week and spar everyday, that will be around 260days of sparring within the year If you only spar Fridays it will take you about 5 years to have the same sparring experience as the guy who spars daily
I miss Hendo. I was lucky enough to get into MMA at least before Hendo retired. One of the earlier cards I watched was Hendo vs. Bisping 2 but I had been following him for a while before then and did a RU-vid dive on him. In my mind, he's a guy I think of as a "Legend". I know there's people who've been watching longer but we all have to start somewhere.
Hendo is one of my Mount Rushmore fighters if mma. Respect. On a different note, Sean Strickland said mma is the only pro sport anyone can do if they can mentally overcome and train hard. I agree with him.
This is great, I miss Dan Henderson, one of the all time greats. Those Pride days in Hendo's prime, he is possibly top three middle weights of all time if not possibly the best in his era. That ugly over hand right man if he hit you wit that you was out , and the man had strength like a chimp, his wrestling mixed with his brawling like punch for punch style like a damn hockey player 😂 . That ruggedness them ole school fighters like Rampage Jackson, The Axe Murderer Silva, The Predator Don Frye, Big Daddy Goodrich, Vitor Belfort, even a Bj Pen and a young Nick Diaz and you can't forget Fedor. Them fighters were different animals back then. Helluva era
The defining moment for me in the Hendo legacy is him talking about his fight with Bisping. Bisping was such a disrespectful prick during The Ultimate Fighter that Hendo deliberately finished him off with the flying hammer fist and then used that image as his logo for his MMA Fighting School!
@@chrisramshur938 oh okay. My brother went there in 96. I went to Serrano graduated in 99. I new everyone from víctor though because my brother and I played basketball with all them cats. That school was crazy. I remember Silverado was built as like N alternative option
Hendo is a great guy. I actually got the opportunity to ask him about this conversation with Joe. He said you sometimes you go balls out in training for real fights.
One of the first to ever knock out wanderlei , fedor , mike bisping, and hector Lombard. Not to mention he was one of the original pride fighting championships ogs.
Miss the days of the Hendo Hand. I love when a new sport starts finding it's way and tons of art styles are being put up against one another to see how they stack up. Now a days the hard research has already been done and every fighter is just a mix match of the same techniques which is awesome in it's own right but no longer excited me like it use to.
"He's hard to hit." What's crazy is that Izzy has way better precision, but Sean was a ghost in there compared to how easily Pereira was able to nuke him.
