I learned this at school, it’s great fun, very energetic as you can get faster and faster dances. As an adult, it’s mostly only done at weddings and is quite hilarious when everyone is tipsy!

Thanks for the memories. I used to dance with the RSCDS as part of the Chicago Branch. There were three subgroups of this branch, one in the north suburbs, one in the west suburbs, and one in the south suburbs. I danced with the southern group at the Homewood / Flossmoor Park District. I still have fond memories of my days of dancing.

I’m a spectator , but I think the video is to promote Scottish Dancing, and uses multiple videos , of different dances. It’s exhilarating to watch and the music is fantastic. I hope that helps you.

A great and fun way to spend your extra money and time, if you want to... The RSCDS is much like the RSPBA, in the sense that it is a for-profit business, first and foremost. You don't have to be Scottish to participate in it, but you do have to "pay to play (and lose)"... don't even think about winning a serious competition if your group is not from Scotland or Canada or Pakistan... that's just the way it is, and that's the way it should be.

This is such a strange comment. The RSCDS is an official charity, not a for-profit business. Its aim is to preserve and promote this form of traditional dance. Yes, SCD groups charge admission for dances, classes, workshops and other events. That money goes to paying for musicians, teachers, audio equipment, recorded music, venue rental, and sometimes food. Venue rental is usually far and away the biggest expense. RSCDS headquarters produces a magazine, collects and publishes dances, coordinates the global SCD community, evaluates and certifies teachers, conducts events, and generally promotes SCD. Scottish Country Dance is not a competitive dance form in any way. It is a social dance. We have balls, casual dances, and demonstrations, not competitions.
