American Modern Dance has the slow falling because a woman called Martha Graham basically created modern dance. One of her famous things in dance was that she emphasized the fall to the floor, not just hitting the floor. That's why it was a slow fall to the floor. Also, modern involves a lot of slow movement and floor work.

okay so I'm not even going to go into the whole ballet debate (I could go on about that but that's for another time) but this video is not representative of dance throughout history. the history of dance did not begin with the classical forms of the art, like ballet or tango or waltzing. dance started out as folk dance where people in the villages would dance for joy, sadness, thanks, anything. dance was representative of their lives, and eventually became the classics they once were. I got to see a professional speak about this recently. they completely ignored character dance, which takes many of these folk dances and honors them. this video fails to celebrate these facts and how dance has evolved since then. I just wish we could see something a little more in depth. it feels like this art form isn't given the credit it deserves because in reality, dance's history is beautiful and complex, and isn't just made up of Western trends

There's tons of dances that weren't even mentioned. so dance is still dance, you don't have to like the modern dance, like I said that is in western cultures but I you've looked into many other cultures there dances that are still practiced.

What bothers me most about them not specifying "American" or "Western" dance history, is the fact that Buzzfeed loves diversity and being PC 😑 If they wanted to make it worldly or inclusive (by leaving Western/American out of the title), they should've shown multiple dance styles from various cultures for each decade. But I really think it was more subconscious of whoever made this
